Yes, some things will be the same price as regular stores.
But I ALWAYS find a few things I'm excited about bringing home. Always.

Always an adventure. Sometimes you find some great deals, the only problem is when you go back to try to find that same product they may not have it. Always check dates, some things are okay if they're past date. Some things I would be cautious of. And never go on a Saturday morning... Just a bit crazy in there.
Prices were pretty good and the local vegetables were beautiful and super inexpensive. Cabbage,cauliflower,squash and don't forget the giant pumpkins for $2 as well as the decorative gourds.
You get what you pay for. I purchased hair color recently; went home and opened it. The bottle was empty! I did find good cereal and applesauce though.
Great prices on salvage groceries and general household goods. This is an Amish owned and operated business and it is almost always bursting at the seams with so many people shopping inside. Since it's a salvage grocery store you'll be wise to check the expiration dates on every item. Most canned goods are dented. Dented cans are perfectly fine. The thing to REALLY watch out for is cans that are BULGING, ESPECIALLY in top or bottom of cans. THAT could be a sign of botulism but I've never run into it here. The ONLY reason I give 4 stars is because it can be INCREDIBLY disorganized. It's not dirty or anything, just often VERY DIFFICULT to find what you're looking for, and the frozen section is almost non-existent because it's so small. And, because it's SO PACKED with people shopping most of the time it can be EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to get to what you want or to get down the aisles because of people taking up all the space with their shopping carts and by remaining in the SAME SPOT FOR SEEMINGLY HOURS ignoring others' attempts to get by. The have plenty of shopping carts and the cashiers are incredibly fast with not a SINGLE "BOOP" or "BEEP", it's ALL done on "old school" cash registers with those Amish gjrls' fingers just completely invisible they're moving so fast across the register!!
I love south side! They have a lot of variety and options, and i normally come here to get some snacks or sauces, but they also have a good variety of food and frozen meats/meals. They have a lot of drinks, but theyre mainly in bulk, which isnt bad, but I prefer the individual drinks. (They have individual drinks for sale, but i feel like not a very huge variety) i still love this place and its like if a grocery store and a salvage store combined lol! They're proces are amazing though, and i would definitely recommend coming here for small things if youd like to save a little throughout the weeks.
Yes you have to check the expiration date before putting something into your cart, but the prices are so low, it’s worth taking the time to pick through. The shelves are always stocked and they have a really good selection- brand names and new items.
If you've ever been short on money, this salvage is the best I've been to! You still have to check dates on occasion on the package but overall everything is low priced and still tastes awesome when you eat it. They also have a Frozen and refrigerated section with good markdowns too. Highly recommended. Also generally a great selection of gluten-free products marked down.
Their prices have definitely gone up over the past couple of years and I'm finding some prices are comparable to or higher than Aldi's prices. There had been a juice that sold for a leader for 29 cents now it is priced slightly over a dollar, that was quite a bump.
To be fair all grocery prices have risen in the last couple of years. If you shop at multiple stores you'll probably recognize the deals and the steals.
It was disappointing when a couple of years ago Southside discontinued accepting the buckeye card on Tuesdays, apparently some users were allowing friends to use their card and that had gotten out of hand.
One of my favorite salvage stores. Even though prices have gone up a little bit for the most part the prices are decent. I like how the majority of the food are priced well especially being expired food or close to expiration.
Looking to SAVE LOADS of $$$$? Shop Amish salvage grocery stores! South Side Discount Groceries is my go to spot for deep discounted prices on pantry items and limited frozen food. The store also stocks health, beauty, baby, animal and other odds & ends. Every trip here is a treasure hunt! Save some $$$ and let someone else pay higher prices at regular stores! Heads up... outhouse only of you need a bathroom!
Always a wide variety of stock to choose from. I love browsing the miscellaneous/home decor and bath & body sections. I have found great deals on sunscreen (within expiration date window) and hair care/styling products. There is a LOT of salvaged food at deeply discounted prices - if you don’t mind eating food that is past the expiration date you could easily leave with a heaping cart full of food for a mere fraction of what you would pay at a typical grocery store.
I bought some markers and didn’t realize the sticker underneath. A target stick discounted it at 1.50 and south side up charges it to 3.00. Some items are priced well. But you can buy peanut butter at aldis at the same price with the date code 2 years out. Not past due date.
Salvaged and Discount goods. Everybody is on a budget these days, you can find many deals here. Many items are out of date or close to it but not everything. They have Non perishable items such as, Cosmetics, school supplies, toiletries, and even some clothing. I love this place! I shop this place at least once a week. Go check it out!!
Very cheap food, MUCH OF WHICH IS EXPIRED. Check the dates before buying. Plenty of it is very affordable and fine, but they will sell expired things without noticing. My grandpa got food poisoning and almost died because the lemon juice was years too old even though he just bought it.

This store is regretfully on the decline after many amazing years of deals. Prices have been steadily rising, problems with long-past expiration dates have been more common, and fellow customers are often horribly rude. You can still get great deals here on many things, but prices are certainly not as low as they used to be, products are not as fresh, and the experience is often undesirable even after their expansion.
Fill a cart with non essential snacks and foods for a small fraction of retail. Great for holidays, Halloween, restocking snacks and even go here before hitting up regular stores to get all your deals out of the way and dropping the big bucks. They've got a small frozen section and cold section now too. Just check dates before you buy as most is getting close or past.
For me, shopping here is like a treasure hunt. You have to check expiration dates, and you might not find an exact item you're looking for but I've never been disappointed in what I did find. Cans of fancy sparkling water for 40 cents. Bags of chips to put in lunch bags for 19 cents. A bag of Dove chocolates for $1.50. And on and on...this is also a good way to try a product without spending too much on it. I love how they have boxes you can pack your items in-easy to carry and convenient for recycling. The cashiers are always efficient and pleasant as are most of the other shoppers. The only downside: the place is in the middle of nowhere and can be a bit tricky to find but that's what Google Maps is for.
Worth the drive! Be watchful of the expiration dates. But for the price I'm okay with a sealed expired by a couple months. I basically bought 3 months worth of food for 71$!!
You will save hundreds of dollars here. Go here for your family! I got a big basket of food for 30 dollars. I'm beyond thankful for the Amish and for God for providing cheap groceries for my family. God bless.
