I scheduled two separate appointments for a state inspection, and on both occasions, there was no inspector available. I was never notified ahead of time not to show up. Before my second appointment, I even called to confirm the inspector would be available and was assured they would be, yet when I arrived, there was still no inspector. Extremely disappointing and complete waste of time and gas.

I changed my engine and cabin air filters literally the day before taking my car in for an oil change. So I couldn't help but laugh when I got a call from the shop recommending that I change my "dirty air filters." I understand that up-selling has to be a priority for almost any garage. Building trust and credibility should be too.

Very friendly service.I came in at the last minute about an hour and a half before closing, and they replaced both of my back rear tires and had me out the door heading back to Raleigh.Russ was very helpful yesterday. Thanks y'all!

DONT go here. My car died at autozone on a Friday night. This was one of the shops open on a saturday in the area and had an easy towing service so I decided to go with them. I was assured that they would be able to figure it out. I dropped my car off via tow truck on saturday morning. I get a call right before they closed on saturday that the issue was too complicated and the main mechanic would be back monday. I waited patiently, monday came and I got NO updates at all- was dismissed by the staff all day. I had my fiance call and they just lied to him. Finally get a call Monday right before they close that they found the issue was my battery was not connected properly... is that an issue an expert mechanic needs to fix?? I am very disappointed with the communication and delay in service, my car was on property since Saturday morning and they did not even touch my car until Monday at 4pm... for a battery issue which should have been an easy fix. Above all that they charged me $60 for an "electrical evaluation" on top of the $85 I paid to tow my car, I doubt they truly evaluated anything but the battery. Horrible experience. Will not be back. I should not have to beg for updates on my car, and it should not be dismissed for days for a simple issue.

I came to Pep Boys in a bind due to a flat tire I had experienced while travelling. Despite it being later in the day, the men here did their very best to get me back on the road safely at a price that you can not beat. Not only did i receive good service, but they are so nice! Best experience at an auto service shop i have ever had!

Russ & Mitch were great to work with. They both gave honest answers & they weren’t trying to oversell. Car came back in tiptop shape. Highly recommend.

Mitch and crew helped me diagnose a surprise flat tire so I could drive 2 hours back home. I greatly appreciate their prompt service and attention to detail!

Mr. Mitch was awesome to work with. Mr. Sergio did the work i asked for when rotating my tires. Please give both technicians $1000 for a job well done. kevin j

The worst location Ive ever been to for a Pep Boys! Takes all day, manger is the rudest person to deal with. Tires are shaking so bad you don't want to drive the van on a brand new set of tires, and the manger said he doesn't know how to fix it.
Dec 29, 2025 -
My tire was punched by a screw and the technicians were unable to repair it. I had to replace it with a new tire. Later on I learned that the tire should have been easily fixed. I realize that pep boys technicians were not enough professional.

Got a flat tire on a Saturday, had my car towed to Pep Boys in Chapel Hill. Manager told me he didn’t have a tech for the weekend so my car wouldn’t be ready till Monday. I called on Sunday to check on car & the manager told me he found a tech & my car would be ready later that afternoon. He went above & beyond as I really needed my car for work.

Took off the day from work to get my annual inspection done that I scheduled with this location online. My appointment was confirmed but when I arrived one of the mechanics came out and said sorry our machine is broke. Left me scrambling on a Saturday to find a place since it was going to be past due the next day. Have a feeling the guy just didn't feel like doing it, what a joke! Lost my business forever Pep Boys

Had a 10:30 appointment arrived a little after10:00 to get 4 new tires put on.Little after 1:00 left without no tires.somehow the work order was push back due to it gets longer to do.its quicker to do batteries and other quick jobs. Also was told no military discount on tires.hum other day when I check on military discount it was given.Guess whoever checks you in matters. This was on 11/20/2025.please do not tell me to call you.As you know that is a issue that you have at this place.I have to admitted that you do gave 50 percent off on oil changes on Wednesdays. That is after the military service personal has to prove that pep boys gave 50 percent off.Why not just gave 50 percent when persent of proof of service?

Needed rotation, balance, alignment, oil change, replace spark plug. Only one mechanic working. Waited seven hours. Their waiting room is comfortable. Walked down the street and got lunch. I’m a patient person. I’ve always liked this Pep Boys in Chapel Hill best, always have, always will. They are friendly, efficient, affordable, and I’ve never had a problem with my car service.

Absolutely the best experience! Driving through town late on a Saturday evening, my tire is about to blow. Literally it’s shredding! I called, they said they were busy … but I drove slowly and made it 10 minutes before closing. What did Jay do?! With a little bit of patience, I was out the door with brand new tires!! He is so kind, and gracious! Everyone was closed, he could have waited till the morning… he could have said, it’s saturday night and we are closed. But, no … instead he got me on the road home within 90 minutes!!! I cannot thank him enough, and so pleased!!!?

I’m disappointed with my experience at Pep Boys. They’ll tell you what you want to hear over the phone just to get you in the door, but once you show up, you find out they can’t actually fix the issue and end up wasting your time—pretty sure the only thing they can really handle there is an oil change or a flat tire. I called ahead specifically to avoid this, was assured everything would be fine, and still got sent to another location. The staff wasn’t particularly polite or concerned about the inconvenience, and the whole situation could’ve been avoided with honest communication.

I wish i had read these reviews before scheduling my appointment. Seems this shop is too cheap to hire an adequate amount of mechanics for their work load. I had a 9:30am appointment for a rear brake job I scheduled 3 days prior and here it is going on 5:30pm and I’m still waiting for them to finish. When I scheduled the appointment I asked how long does it usually take and I was told around two hours but it’s been eight and they’re still not done. When I arrived for my scheduled appointment I had to walk around the entire building looking for someone to check my truck in with, as soon as she told me she only had one mechanic working and two brake jobs ahead of me I should of went somewhere else. What’s the point of scheduling appointments if you never abided by them ?????

After leaving the movie theater, we found a flat tire. Looked around for fix-a-flat, then I googled fix my tire. I found Pep Boys close by. I went directly there, they were so friendly and we were in and out in less than 30 minutes.

Dropped my vehicle off @ 1330 on 14OCT25 could not pick up until 1630 on 17OCT25. Had to call shop on 16OCT25 to retrieve a status. Could not reach an associate until 0730, though I began calling promptly at 0700 on 16OCT25 during the listed Hours of Op. (0700-1900). The Customer Service associates were very kind, genuine and honest even when they were unsure about a specific component, they kindly assured that an experienced technician would be in touch with me regarding the status by 0830-0900. Once the aforementioned call finally came through (1040hrs 16OCT25) the Associate explained that the assigned Technician damaged a component that was recommended to be repaired, had to special order and further prolonged a service that should have been completed within a 24 hour period ie.: estimated time for completion was by 1330 on 15OCT25. To dive a little further into the details… Before approving the work to be performed I explained that I was active duty and understood there was a 10% discount. I explained that during the government shutdown the uncertainty of income was concerning and that I was stuck in a hotel until the repairs were completed. The Associate assured me that the repairs absolutely would not take longer than the estimated time quoted and that the cost would reflect a monetary discount for inconveniences potentially caused should the repairs extend beyond the timeframe. Look, don’t get me wrong, I get it, times get busy and damages occur whether it be accidental or simply ordered the wrong part… Why did I have to initiate the contact? The cost of the repairs I understood and that’s accountability from my waiting too long to repair them myself. To incur further expenses outside of this was understood for the “agreed timeframe” on the quote. $1600 repair turned into a $2,000 trip that would hurt any level of active duty personnel, monetarily, during these uncertain times. The repairs were rendered to specs and I am thankful for the service nonetheless. Just wanted to make it understood that most folks don’t carry the likeminded knowledge and empathy to wait additional time. Asserting the communication to assure the client is not just a parts acquisition or a transactional relationship that becomes a feather in the wind; reciprocates genuine respect and loyalty. As a diesel mechanic, the special order nonsense was not honest nor the cost reflected fair. However, I understood that the cost is convenience versus personal knowledge of commercial parts’ actual price tag. This shop is extremely busy. Get quotes unilaterally before you just “drop off” at this location. The 2 stars are for the 2 kind and genuine front associates and the repairs rendered to specs. Communication, cleanliness and component cost should be reviewed.

I had a 9:00 appointment for new tires I already ordered online. Tire listed as in stock at this location. Upon arrival at 8:45 Wendy at the front counter says it will be a 2 hour wait before getting to my vehicle. She says she will call as they are ready. I returned in 2 hours and she says they still are not ready for my vehicle because I didn’t leave my keys. I asked how long and am told it will be a while. I explained I’m am not happy with the customer service I am receiving and Wendy wants to argue it is my fault for not leaving the keys so they keep skipping my ticket. Schedule appointments make no difference for they than why list schedule times as available.Luckily I did not prepay so I walked out and will not return.

I had to get towed to this store heading back to GA on Monday due to 4 of my lug nuts basically being sheered off on 40 (on the construction zone & I thought I was going to get hit a few times because people kept getting very close to my car). I was there for a few hours, but that's because they were busy & I understand that. They got my tire fixed & had to put a new tire on. Everyone was so friendly there & didn't complain because I also had my 10 year old dog there as well.

I have been to Pep Boys a few times now and have had a good experience each time. The gentleman that fixed my tire was very helpful and chatted about the issue. It is very organized working with the appointment desk. I will continue to use Pep Boys

Jay, the Service Manager, runs a great shop. I scheduled a state inspection and arrived for my appointment to find a packed garage and several others waiting. My appointment put me in front of the others who had rolled in without appointment. Great service, will be back for other services on my Chevrolet Cruze and Mercedes.

Don't expect prompt service, and plan to drop off your vehicle. I have lifetime service for my alignment and had to drive an hour to The closest pep boys for my appointment. I called the shop the night before to ask questions, then made my appointment online. When I got to the location the next morning, I was told just my alignment was going to take a couple hours. They only had one technician and apparently multiple cars. After I explain that I had an appointment which I made the night prior. The lady at the desk said she couldn't control what comes in. Which I'm pretty sure is what appointments are for, to control the flow of customers.

Saturday apt for inspection. Booked online. Showed up on time and I was told I would need to come back Monday because they did not have inspector. Told I should call to schedule in the future. They canceled on me before (but at least called me) and I usually have to wait 1-1.5 hours for an inspection with an appointment time. I’ve used pep boys for convenient hours but won’t be going back.

This place does not honor appointments. Twice I have made an appointment days ahead at this place and they cancelled it, due to not having workers or taking a walk-in instead. Instead of being courteous and calling to let me know they will not be able to get me in. They wait until I take off work and get there in person. They do not apologize and act like they provide great customer service by providing dates the next week to get you in.

Second time dealing with this location, first time was for a couple tires in and out in no time and they volunteer to rotate them as well very pleased. This time was for an oil change in my Porsche Cayenne which I did not realize took 9 and 1/2 quarts a full synthetic, they were extremely busy but got me in and out of there as quickly as possible I recommend the team at that location to anyone I will definitely be back!

Not only did I spend three hours waiting (until well past the establishment closing), but also ended up spending several hundred dollars more than I should have. The tires I purchased and had installed were, according to the manager, “not compatible with the matrix” in their system, thus were listed as ‘not the right size’ for my truck (even though they are now on my truck). Because of this, I was unable to purchase the tires online, thus unable to qualify for the pricing or free installation and the manager, Maarja, would not honor any of it - and again I was unable to purchase online with installation because according to the Pep Boy’s system, the tires were not compatible with my truck. ALL THIS ASIDE - Pep Boy’s damaged my truck on multiple counts. Firstly, the installer scratched my front quarter panel beside the hood - how, I am not sure, because I am not even sure why they were under my hood to install tires. (I saw my hood popped when my truck was pulled into the shop). Second, the installer also damaged my TPMS sensor, causing malfunction and inability to read tire pressure. There was “nothing they could do”, since by the time my tires were installed yesterday, it was well past closing time. When I called first thing this morning, Maarja answered the phone. She seems to believe they can avoid accountability due to the fact that “the installer who put the tires on is not at work today”. I was in a bind yesterday and thought they could help, but now have more issues than I did previously. This will be the first and last time Pep Boy’s receives any business from me if there is nothing they can do to rectify this situation.

I can’t imagine a worse experience with what should have been a simple in and out. I purchased tires on Tire Rack and they have this pep boys as the only place they will ship the tires directly to for installation in my area. I thought that would be easiest (first mistake). I make my appt for 2 days out - 9 am. I get an email from pep boys later that day confirming. I arrive at 8:45 for my 9 am appt and the parking lot and drive through area is double parked everywhere. I check-in at the desk with the manager Maarja (not a typo- Dutch, I believe) She tells me she’s short-staffed so it will be 2-2.5 hours instead of the usual 1-1.5. 11 am comes and I see my car is still waaaayyyy back in the line. I ask the manager and she tells me that there’s one car ahead of me- 2 MORE hours. So I politely ask how this is possible when I had an appointment for 9 am. Maarja- who, by the way, has not once apologized but instead has been rude and defensive- tells me that the tires are already paid for so she can just load them in my car and I can leave. How rude and passive aggressive to tell me this after I’ve been waiting for 2 hours. Obviously if she had offered this- maybe with an apology- when I got there I would have chosen to do that. Instead, she continued to lie to my face about their queue and my wait time to string me along and take my money. So I go to get something to eat and after I get back, I still hear and see other people coming in (walk-in’s) and she just keeps accepting them and tells them….1-2 hours! Yes! Lies to them too. She then has some poor sap who works there calling around town asking about additional parking lot space to rent because their lot is bursting at the seams! I hear her saying to multiple people on the phone that she doesn’t want to seem like she’s holding their cars hostage. She shrugs off an elderly lady’s concern that she’s starving but can’t walk to the closest restaurant due to physical disability. It was horrible. They were almost a full day behind and this manager thought it was a good idea to just keep lying to people so she could take their money and never apologized to anyone. So fast forward. I’ve now missed a volunteer engagement at my kid’s camp, my laptop battery has died, and it’s 2 pm. My car is FINALLY going into the garage bay (9 am appointment!). Maarja has disappeared. My car is finished at 3 pm and the assistant manager is super nice and apologetic. He seemed truly disturbed about the situation, but clearly not empowered to stand up to Maarja. So 6 hours in…I get my car back and: they didn’t change the valve stems (that I was charged for), I’m missing a valve cap, the tires are covered in tire soap (installation lube) and there are nasty greasy handprints all over my wheels. My husband was a mechanic for a long time and keeps my wheels clean (it’s a whole thing). Then… I get on the highway and my car is shaking like a leaf when I get to 65 mph. Unbelievable! They didn’t even balance the tires. That was the only thing my husband didn’t have the equipment to do in his shop so I paid and waited all day for…nothing that he couldn’t have done in 45 mins in his shop at home and he would’ve cleaned up after the mess and grease. Icing on the cake? Maarja lied and put that I arrived at 11:07 am and was promised my car back by 2:45 pm. The gall. Stay FAR away from this shop. My next stop is BBB to try to get my money back.

I brought my car in for a simple tire rotation, and Pep Boys scraped it while pulling it into their shop—caught on camera, so there’s no denying their negligence. What followed has been a nightmare of unprofessionalism and bad faith. They refused to pay for a proper repair at a shop of my choice, instead sending a check (without confirming with me) that didn’t cover the repair leaving me to cover the difference for their mistake or go to a 3rd party shop and risk my cars warranty. I repeatedly demanded their liability insurance info to file a claim, but they ignored me, forcing me to escalate legally. They also refused to fully cover a rental car (excluding insurance costs) and ignored my request for a refund for the botched tire service. I gave them multiple chances to resolve this, including a final deadline, but they didn’t even bother to respond. Their behavior is not just incompetent—it’s outright deceptive, and I’m now pursuing this through small claims court. If you care about your vehicle and expect a business to take responsibility for their mistakes, steer clear of Pep Boys. They clearly don’t care about quality repairs or customer satisfaction, and they’ll leave you high and dry when they mess up. I’ve never dealt with a more frustrating and unethical company. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else Edit. Unbelievable they ask you publicly to reach out in order to save face and look like they care only to ignore you… unbelievable. Please. I’m begging you at this point. Just give me your insurance information so I can file a claim. I just want my car fixed it’s been 2 months and I’m tired
