Very happy I discovered Milepost Hobbies a couple of years ago. I was there just a few days ago, and as before ,the best customer service, the best honest pricing, amazing amount of stock no other shop in this area can match. I will be returning soon, I have a few more tracks to install on my layout. Matt is great, very kind and knowledgeable. I still cannot get over, the amount of rolling stock, locomotives, accessories available in one shop. This place is the best! Thank you Milepost, keep up the great work.

Hands down best hobby shop in upstate NY! If you want trains, this is your place! My personal favorite is his eclectic selection of old school vintage model airplane kits. Give this guy your money, you will be happy with what you acquire, guaranteed!
Largely dedicated to trains and train accessories but carries some rockets and RC vehicles. There's a wall of model cars and airplanes--there's a bunch of vintage plane kits, too. A little something for everyone and super nice folks.
Talked to Matt via messenger and over the phone, very nice to chat with and knowledgeable. I enjoyed our conversation and I am very happy with the decals that I purchased and they arrived in a timely manner and were well packaged. Will purchase from Matt and Milepost Hobbies again soon. A large selection of model trains (new, new old stock, and used), supplies, and other models. Also books & railroad memorabilia - tons of stuff packed into a small store. A friendly and knowledgeable owner and reasonable prices make it worth the trip.
I am never disappointed when I travel to this hobby store. The main lines of his product offerings are the two biggest hobby interests I have. Model RR, & scale model kits. Fair pricing & a great guy running the show.

Have dealt with Matt for many yrs and always is friendly and accomodating.Always has a well stocked supply and if he doesn't have it, He will get it in reasonable time .Prices are good which is another plus. Highly Recommended
Great store! I make the drive from Troy just to patronize the business. Excellent selection for the modeler that can't be beat. You can tell that Matt knows his stuff and will not hesitate to make sure your questions are answered.

My wife and I have always enjoyed going to local hobby shops to look around for interesting models to buy or look at train set accessories for future ideas. Sadly many have closed. We just recently moved to the area and found this gem of a shop. Not only did we have fun looking around and talk to other regular shoppers and the friendly helpful staff, we ended up walking out with quite a haul of unique model kits to enjoy. Thank you Milepost for the great time.
For many years, I had traveled to Matt's to buy trains and accessories. We always enjoyed the visit and got some great items. My old friend, Gerry Humphrey. would go with me. When Matt saw Gerry' he would run and get a big box for Gerry to fill with trains. Sadly ' Gerry passed away during covid but he loved going to see Matt.
I started to go with the Reed boys and we always came home with great treasures. I now live in NC and have yet to see another train store that even comes close to Milepost Hobbies. I would still go if not for the 1800 mile roundtrip.
This is primarily a model train shop. A very well stocked one, at that. I didn't see much in the way of what I do(rc cars, planes, drones etc) but if I wanted something for a train set or collection I'd call these guys.
Most honest hobby retailer in the capital district your going to find. Great selection of products. Lenny welter and Glen Salamone were the last ones before!
I drove 50 minutes to this place and was NOT disappointed… As all the train stores have closed near me I was forced to travel to this one. And lets just say I WILL be coming back…Very nice place. Lots of scales for sale. Store has cheap products but good quality products. Owner was very nice and willing to help, I asked a question and he was able to provide me with all the info I would need. Very good place for trains and some other hobbies as well. If you live within a hour of this place it is definitely worth the drive. I would give 20 stars if I could. I recommend this store to all.
Was there for the first time a couple days ago. Great owner very friendly. I bought three engines , and my friend bought a few cars. Def will be back. Prices cannot be beat.
Been a customer since day one (nearly); great range of products, great staff and all around a great experience. It's especially great for those who model local roads like NYC, as a lot of the quality pre-owned models come from people in the area who model the Central, not to mention the great selection of equipment from other roads. One of the best model railroad shops in Upstate New York.
I was gifted a train set that was lacking some components for proper functionality, I called and explained the situation and was told he had the parts on hand, he was exceptionally knowledgeable and willing to help. The store had awesome stock whether your looking for new or gently used they can help. If your a newbie I would visit this shop just to get an insight into the possibilities before you get started.

The store stocks a lot for the model railroad hobbyist. If the owner (Matt) doesn't have it in the store, he will go out of his way to order it and get it asap. Matt is knowledgeable about the hobby and always willing to answer customers questions.
For a small store they have a nice selection. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are what you would expect from a small hobby shop. Signage could be better, but easy to find if you look for the scrap locomotive on the building's side.
Matt is extremely knowledgeable and I have gotten some great deals on used HO locomotives. Matt also stands 100% behind his products and if there is an issue, he resolves it.
This train shop was a very good experience. I did not make a large purchase,but Mathew the owner made sure all the used trains I purchased matched up as they should.Mathew spent a good amount of time from his busy day to change the couplers for me which he did not have to do.This is an excellent train shop with excellent service.A great place to shop.
