I purchased two packs of cheese but only received one. When I returned to the store, I was told they couldn’t issue a refund and that the mistake was on me. I understand store policies, but it was still frustrating as a customer
Please be aware! Like similar reviews state, cashiers constantly overcharge. Not sure why that happens, and I hope it’s not intentional. Make sure to check your receipts before leaving!
Well my fellow consumers unfortunately yet another unsatisfactory experience at my local neighborhood Western Beef supermarket & I will honestly state I must take some responsibility for continuing to give them my business. I'm a long time resident I've lived here years before they came, I remember the "grand opening" Era detergent was advertised for $1.99 however they charged $5.99 can you imagine the profit they made from ppl not watching their items being rung up??!! I was one of many. Since the beginning I've NEVER witnessed more than 4 out 10 or more registers open, no matter how crowded. Spoiled meats and deli items, slimy fish, expired can goods, milk, frozen foods as well. There also been some good meats & prices throughout the years but the good doesn't outweigh the bad. The present new management seems to be doing better but it's the same overcharging& if you come back to make them aware they are so angry why? They don't allow shoplifting, or you to shortchange them so why should they be allowed to rob customers? I was overcharged for two items same amount but I was fed up as this has happened three times in the past month yes I should've been more diligent & paid closer attention especially since it's happened so often in so little time but I either got distracted or conversing while on line, in any case I went back with my receipt the manager who I've seen as a cashier for some time I actually congratulated& was so proud of her advancement, well so much for that she was rude condescending & had such an attitude I was there over 20 mins while she studied my receipt I offered to get her the sale sign item was right at entrance Maria cookies 4-$5 I was charged 2-$3 I know just 50 cents but why should they make a profit from me, the mistakes they make are ALWAYS in their favor, a staff member went & got the sign that really got her upset & she was disrespectful to staff member even my cashier yes I was still buying something was embarrased by managers conduct, manager says what time did I buy items I told her all of that information was on receipt trying to not let her horrific behavior get to me , she then said well that was price for today but I bought it yest with EXACTLY same sign, then she said the candy I bought 2-$4 was two different candies - I was charged $2 for one & $2.50 for the other, I went to candy asile & bring the same 2 bags of candy & it rang up wrong she walked away. I'm going to return the cookies tomorrow the candies have already been opened so Western Beef got to cheat me out of a whole 50 cents probably many other customers as well. I'm sorry the East New York WB location closed as I used to drive there & shop with nice customer service ( despite living around corner from Empire Blvd store) it was worth the trip though much smaller than to deal with the mostly bad service at Empire Blvd. I'll drive to BJ'S, Walmart or do delivery service, I'll frequent Lincoln Market & hopefully when Lidil opens ppl won't have to put up with inferior service at Western Beef. Shame on you manger I hope no one treats your mother, grandma or even you as unnecessary rude manner you treated me. Here's a piece of advice take it as you will - you might want to change that attitude everyone isn't as forgiving as I and the next person might be waiting for you when you come out those doors possibly might not wait might catch you inside, not wishing you harm but with ppl these days that advice might save you harm. Please do better if you were having a bad day stay home that's what sick time & personal days are for. Treat ppl better, I wasn't rude, disrespectful or mean I sure didn't deserve to be treated that way. If ppl stop coming to purchase &support you're out of a job. Probably doesn't matter as this behavior & bad service continues. Unacceptable young lady totally unacceptable & beyond unnecessary.
Western Beef cannot be beat! They've got it all and at solid prices! They have a $2 bin for ripe fruit and vegetables. You can get some real deals in there but you gotta eat it with the quickness. They've got a lot of West Indian products, beef patties, malt soda, and the like. They've got hot jerk chicken up front. Order the jerk cuz you are whatcha eat!
I don't know if the store is under new management...but I was going buy meat for my grandmother and the meat was warm to the touch and turning brown. I never had this problem before and the new employees are rude. When you ask them something they turn their backs.
Subject: Concern Regarding Poor Customer Service at Western Beef – 44 Empire Blvd
During my recent visit to Western Beef at 44 Empire Blvd, I had a very disappointing experience. I stopped in the produce section to purchase several bunches of Mustard Greens. When I reached the register, the cashier questioned the item and insisted they were kale priced at $2.39/lb. I politely corrected him and informed him they were in fact mustard greens.
The Front End staff was then ushered over and briefed about the circumstance and then asked the cashier to check the price. When he returned, the item was rung up at $1.99/lb., what was most upsetting was the fact, I was given a dismissive and unpleasant look, as if I should “take it or leave it.” When I further explained that the product was being misidentified, the cashier waved her hand at me and walked away, dismissing me entirely.
This experience was not only unprofessional but disrespectful. I don’t often complain, but customers should not be treated this way—especially when simply trying to purchase an item correctly, and turned out to be $1.99/lb. vs $2.39/lb.!!!!!
I hope management will address staff training and product knowledge so that future customers don’t encounter the same treatment.
This was the first time I’ve ever visited this place. I was pleased with it,not being crowded and finding everything,I needed For my Thanksgiving meal. I Will definitely make this place my,go to,for big shopping.
Excellent Customer Service! The manager is friendly and very professional. The supermarket is spacious, very neat, clean, and has a variety of food brands.
Easy to find parking lines aren’t that long but watch out for the milk and certain meats because my milk wasn’t expired and it was no good the next day after I opened it and some of the meats aren’t red some are brown so I think they might have issues with the freezers because the milk wasn’t expired and was sour and it was for my baby she threw it up I went back and I told them and they said their fridge was down so just make sure ya meats and milk is good other than that they always have sales but the meats are pricey
Smells bad, rotten meat, poor quality of fresh produce, and long lines. With that being said they have a great selection of seasonings & spices. There's lots of opportunity for improvement.
cheapest place in town for now and employees are very nice. They stock some good stuff for the Gentrifiers of the area. Until the other big supermarket opens this is your most affordable option in town and they have really awesome shopping bags.
Silly me, I never check the dates on items purchasing and I always get caught with items that are expired or expireing within a few days. I give them 2 stars because they always have what I want!
DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT EXPERIENCE IT FOR YOURSELF..or keep reading and save yourself time money gas and disappointment..30 yrs ago.. times were easier and less demanding this was a place to shop MEAT PLANS fresh everything brand names for less A JEWEL OF CROWN HEIGHTS shopped there religiously.. been there 7 times since then . Day we did Western beef supermarket on Empire Boulevard So immaculate. It was a pleasure to walk through the aisles. I will start visiting more often now. Thank you
My mother who is 88 was one who loved this store…recently raved about how nice the remodel is. She usually has a great experience in this store…30+ years shopping there. But, that all changed today when she got her Chase statement that showed an UBER Eats purchase immediately following her grocery purchase at this store. We have just reported the fraudulent charge to Chase and are attempting to call the store to report this. All attempts to contact store have been unsuccessful the phone just rings and I know at 645 pm the store is still open. Not only will I make the trip from New Jersey tomorrow to speak to a manager and to file a complaint with NYPD. My mother states she is able to identify the cashier who checked her out but fears returning to the store could result in repercussions; jeopardize her safety.. My hope is someone will see this comment and immediately complete a thorough assessment of their staff and their registers. To the customers who use this market…beware. To the associate who participated in this scam you should be ashamed of yourself.
I love going here it has everything I need to feed my family and enjoy my carribbean foods. Good sales and friendly cashiers. Ok this is an update today is 3/15/22 so I needed some items to make candied Yams and I was shock they did a complete turn around the vegetables that was in the back area are now up front it looks so spacious I really like it now I did not go to the back area but will check it out more over the weekend.
The Grocery store is relatively clean. The prices are pretty expensive. I've noticed that they post sales but it's the regular price of the item , it isn't a sale. I use to frequent this Western beef more ofter simply because they sale flowers that were reasonably priced. The Roses were 9.99 then 10.99 now 11.99 a dozen. The regular flowers were 3.99 now the are 4.99. Over all I know everything has gone up in price but you rarely get a bargain her. It's like a giant convenience store. If you don't mind spending more then it's a decent grocery store.
I love this store. It's well stocked and has everything you need and more. Although the man in the meat section was very nasty and rude, I will just never asks for his help again but they have a great looking meat section. The produce section is amazing.
Very large store. They have a huge selection of items and incredible deals! There is also a parking lot which makes shopping at Western Beef very convenient.
