Today we visited the Salvation Army. It was very nice when I walked in. The staff was very nice to us. when we were Looking for a dressing room a nice man showed us the way to a dressing room not far from where we were standing. I got three nice pieces of clothing, a dress, a shirt and a sweater. They were all very nice pieces of clothing. There was only one thing about it. The dressing rooms were not very clean, they had bits of dirt in them.

This was my first and definitely my last time visiting this store. The moment I walked in, there was a girl sitting at a table by the door and a guy standing nearby watching customers as if everyone was there to steal. It made the environment very uncomfortable.
The prices were ridiculously high for a thrift store. A Zara jacket was priced at $49, kids’ Alexander McQueen shoes were $149, and Zara shoes were $39 — and they weren’t even in good condition. At that point, I stopped browsing because nothing felt reasonably priced. Why sell donated items close to their original retail price?
I understand that stores have to sort and organize donations — I donate to Goodwill all the time, and they do the same. The difference is their prices are affordable. I once bought a brand-new bread maker at Goodwill that originally cost $169 and only paid $25.
This store was cluttered, smelled unpleasant, and the staff made me feel uncomfortable. I stayed less than three minutes and walked out. I will definitely stick with Goodwill moving forward.Jan 08, 2026 -
I went through the exercise of filling out their online donation form for furniture pickup only to be informed afterwards that they have no available pick up from January through March 2026.

Not that many salvation army locations left. They always have deal days for different colors and typically around holidays 50% everything. This location is very organized but the items that are good are purchased quickly and your only left with regular scraps. Most of the store is clothes. Basement is furniture.

It was pretty chaotic in here when I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, both in organization and the other customers. The prices are ok but they had lots of Christmas decor which was a good deal.

Everyone should file a complaint with 311 to the city about the prices. This is illegal for them to sell used items for the same price as new for a salvation army. This place is suppose to sell used items for people in need who can't afford these items. For the community that why they get tax breaks. But this is a profit they are making for the CEO. And less aboit putting money into services of rehab and providing donated clothing and items to the needy. If you ever see high prices price gouging report it to the city. It's curroption.

I love the items they carry and the employees are very helpful and pleasant
I Recommend this place it's a Treasure in BrooklynNov 27, 2025 -
I have been repeatedly kicked out of the store at 6:30 (multiple days in a row) because they said they are closing despite 7:00 being their posted closing time. They need to adjust their posted hours if they are going to continue to kick people out early. A worker told me today “we close at 6:35.” I asked about them being open until 6:40 yesterday, they said that was an accident.

They're apparently so busy officials can't answer the phone or monitor the phone system which incorrectly directs your phone contact request.

Upon entering this store, I have never felt more uncomfortable. The lady working there rudely took my bag so i wouldn’t “steal” which is fine if she were to have been nice about it. Everything was layered in at least an inch of dust. The purse section was just a pile of purses on the FLOOR. This store is highly unorganized and all I could think about was leaving. I couldn’t leave because they took my bag.

Large store, but cluttered and way overpriced. Used Gap jacket? $60. Drinking glasses? $5 each. Out of the Closet and Goodwill (both in walking distance) are more organized and better priced.

Prices are insane. They actually mark things up higher than the original cost and don’t even bother to remove the original ticket… I thought this was supposed to be a charitable organization. They get their things free and yet they try to rip off the public. Yes I’ve gotten some nice things, but you have to search and search and search because they have a color system… Certain colors are half off and another color is $.99 however there are so few of those that you could spend two hours looking for that color !!! they need to stop this and besides, I hear all profits go into the pocket of the chairman and the higher-ups and then I heard that the poor Workers are paid very little… They need to realize they are a charity!!! so to speak… But who knows they need to lower their prices it’s truly disgusting

I’ve never seen such a sad thrift in my life. Awful selection and the prices were insane. Not worth a look at all.

Items are not discounted. They're being sold at prices higher than the original price. A planter with the original price tag on it that the store didn't bother to mark down or put a tag on. Shein for $20. A junky tshirt likely given to the former owner for free sold here for $6. All shoes essentially start at $20. Saw a small Gucci children's shoe for $80. A single worn towel is $6. Used bath mat for $7. Loose playing cards for $5 each—split into separate bags as if they were collectors' pieces (a quick google search revealed they are not).

I visited the Salvation Army thrift shop today expecting a typical shopping experience. Upon entering, I was not greeted by the two staff members at the front door, a man and a woman, who barely acknowledged us and gave off an unwelcoming vibe. The moment I stepped inside, a strong and unpleasant odor hit me, which immediately raised my red flag, indicating the cleanliness and comfort level might be lacking. The shop itself was cluttered, with clothes and items strewn about haphazardly, making browsing difficult. Overall, the staff's attitude and the store’s condition made the experience disappointing. As employees working in customer service, I believe you all need to improve your approach to ensure customers feel welcomed and comfortable instead of unwelcome and uneasy. I won't be back, do!

I feel like this is a friendly location with an amazing selection of shoes. Nothing I drop off is quite as nice as what I see on the shelves there

The prices for used items are higher than what you pay for new. The items are too worn for the prices they have. Some items I have seen in the store have been there for years. I would highly recommend they go through all the old sheets they have and put them in a large bin to be purchased for $2 or $3 to clean them out and start fresh. There are some old pans where the teflon is so scratched and flaking that no one is going to purchase for $15 or $20, if at all. I would think they would want to move items quickly so they can put more out. They take so many donations there they have to take them out to the warehouse and then to other stores. This takes time and money down the drain. I have purchased just one item there in the 5 years that I have shopped after I have dropped my donations off.
Recently been donating to Big Reuse on 12th St. Love thrifting here. The store can be jumbled in certain areas but you can see they try to keep it organized and the prices are really good. They get the concept of moving inventory quickly.Aug 12, 2025 -
Always better when the entire store is half-off! This location has inflated prices. Most likely due to it being in the Boerum Hil section of Brooklyn. Also, the manager prices items on her whims
Update: Prices STILL inflated, but still worth a visit every 50% off ssale day! There's a different manager. She makes an effort to post the cute items on IG. I've noticed she also responds to comments and questions made under her IG posts! Defiworth the visitS!Jul 19, 2025 -
I love thrifting, so I come when I can, but usually I’m turned off from coming here. It’s overflowing with stuff on the main floor, obscuring some of the racks. The lower floor with furniture and random stuff is pretty hazardous and hard to walk through.
The biggest issue is the prices. I can’t imagine who pays the prices on this stuff. This is supposed to be for people to afford necessities, not to price gouge or “pay for the employees.” I’ve seen framed pictures for 199, worn out shoes for 29.99, and old sheets for 12.99. They write it in sharpie on the item, so it will forever say the price of it. Why would I buy something that says 49.99 on it now? Why ruin the item?
Recently I saw a framed piece of wall art, it didn’t have a price. I asked, was told 12.99. I passed and thought I’d try back during a half off day if it was still there. Came back to see that that piece now had 29.99 written on the back. It’s all a scam unfortunately. Even for nyc, the prices are wild.
I will still come on half off days, but feel like it’s harder and harder to find anything interesting or worth it.
*EDITED to say that the manager does price things at a whim, with seemingly no consideration to what it would have cost new.
I wish they would price things lower AT LEAST to clear things out and make the store shop-able! There are boxes everywhere, things falling all over the aisles, and piles of stuff that are impossible to even see. I haven’t gotten any kind of houseware here in years because they write the price IN SHARPIE on it. DumbJul 06, 2025 -
This location frequently has a group of 5-7 shady dudes sitting outside poaching your donations from you before you walk in the store. They have a big van on the street full of items people were looking to donate. They are extremely aggressive and will chase you down the street if they have to. The Salvation Army account will probably reply to this review with some AI generated response about valuing customer safety blah, blah, blah but they will do nothing about it.
Edit: Like I said, the Salvation Army account replied exactly how I thought they would and they will continue to do nothing about it.Jul 03, 2025 -
This store is always messy and disorganized whenever I stop by, but this time was the worst. Actual hazard violation and there is no excuse for it. One of the workers had the audacity to accuse me of stealing while packing my items in a reusable bag and followed me around the store. It made me uncomfortable. I would avoid this place in the future.

I adore Corina she’s amazing, always working! She’s never not attentive to someone or fixing something or just being zen while working. Her vibe is everything! She’s able to maintain her vibe even during the psycho phase of rush when all the jerks come in raid the place don’t fix anything, are rude and uncouth….shes #stoic and I love that about her. Thanks for sparkling zen master!!! Your #iconic #goodluckcharm #goddessvibes #fierce

Please train the manager on how to price the items correctly. She is charging over the price of what an item would cost if it were brand new. None of the items are correctly priced. Me and several customers were shocked at what she priced. We even looked up the cost of an item brand new and it was $10 less than what she priced it for. When we asked her about it and showed her the price on walmart she walked away and said that's the price.

Donate at your own risk! I donated family treasures, truly collectible items that I thought would sell and fund a worthy cause; rehabilitation services. I could have sold the items but chose to donate instead. As we were being dropped off in front of the store, 3 thugs took the items from us and were placing items in their own car. SA should not allow this sort of criminal behavior. Other patrons with donations also had items taken from them. It was so disturbing. When we managed to get inside the store there were only 2 employees and they seemed understaffed. The young man shrugged and never said a word when we asked where was NYPD with this blatant robbery of donations right in front of the store? I guess he didn’t want to file a police complaint and chance being attacked later or worse, losing his life. This is NYC now. Sad. No one answers their NyC location after calling California 800# no one answered and no one ever cared to call back. SA is poorly managed at the corporate level.

I had a great experience shopping here. I was greeted at the door and the lady was very helpful and welcoming. I found exactly what I was looking for and something extra. The best part is I didn't even know they had an 1/2 off sale. Thank you for your hospitality.

I haven’t been to a Salvation Army store in a while, so perhaps I am out of touch, but when I visited last week prices were extremely high.
There was a used couch with an “as is” sticker on it for $599.00
There were used mirrors, matching, for $199.00 EACH (these were perhaps 18”x24”, not huge floor pieces)
These prices were representative as well of the lower level, which had furniture and goods piled haphazardly. Furniture ranged from $199-$599.
I’m aware the country has been facing inflation, but the SA is an organization that relies almost exclusively on donations, and the SA stores only sell donated items. So the prices seemed like a slap in the face.
What happened to being a resource for the needy- or people who find themselves in difficult financial circumstances? The pricing here was more indicative of a hipster vintage store in Williamsburg, but without any of the quality.
The staff however was very nice.Jun 09, 2024 -
Great used furniture pieces, they have 3 floors, in the basement is the furniture, some god finds

Great shopping experience. Lots of mirrors so you can quickly try on the things. Great prices (not sure where to look for deals of the day...but I got a nice red hoodie for half off which made it $4.50 to my surprise!! Would've bought it full price, loved the piece, good quality). Great designer bags behind the counter (around 20 bucks) and tons of vintage jewelry too. The workers were polite and pleasant the whole time too.

The salvation Army once upon a time was a place to shop for those who are in need. NOW used items are WAY WAY overpriced. Who would pay $10 for used glassware? The Clothes/shoes/pocketbook/wallet prices are ridiculously high for used NOT A CONSIGNMENT store. This organization Is no longer for the community.
**Corporate can save BS talk about the prices reflect to cost of paying the workers.Jun 08, 2021 -
The Atlantic Avenue Salvation Army is of dependable stock, offering a variety of discounted clothing and other items to raise money for the non-profit. The donation process is quick and easy, and the supply of items always full if not always the most varied. It's not necessarily the prettiest store, but the employees are nice and if you're a rummager you may find a treasure.
