Wonderful staff, always walking out with somethg, clean and organized, there at least once a week

Worst place ever, the male counter guy slammed books at my mom, got nasty and kept changing the prices when they were clearly posted this is not the first time, last week he tried over pricing a 1.00 book turning it to a $10 book, i had intervine and give all the stuff we got back because he just continued to get nasty, we WILL NOT be returning. These are the people representing the Hospital SOMC. I should of known better the manager is the nastiest person I've ever met, she must teach her volunteers it's ok to treat people like crap because you don't get paid.

Rating 3 stars because of pricing. Some things are reasonable, but some of them are just crazy!

Honestly, if I was volunteering and dealing with the rude public I’d me miserable too. They seem to only give what they get personality wise and i never had a problem

Bigger than it looks from the outside. Fairly organized and clean. There's individual rooms for linens/blankets, china and glassware, artwork, clothing, books, etc. Prices are ok - you can find some nice pieces for reasonable cost. Check your items closely as most fabric items I look at have stains or signs of wear. Recent purchases: $10 blanket, $15 purse, $2 flag, $5 pot, $20 clothes, $20 shelf, $5 linen, $10 shoes. The aisles are a little tight so I don't recommend bringing your kids or a stroller as it won't fit. Especially in the glassware room. As other reviewers have said, the staff is a hit or miss. Half of my visits have been fine or pleasant, the other half theyve been short, rude, or refuse service. It is cash only and if you have larger bills they get upset. I was turned away for buying a $5 item with a $20. They wouldn't accept my $50 bill when I had an order of $56 (had to go get $20s from the bank).

Like others who've reviewed, I’ve been on the wrong end of an angry staff member here and it’s not a fun experience. I usually check the board for the day’s sale items and focus on those but too often at checkout the rules suddenly change. “That’s not really a sweater.” “Black jeans don’t count as jeans.” “Those aren’t pants, they’re leggings.” It starts to feel like they’re looking for reasons to upcharge. (And yes, I DO check the sign for any exceptions.) People who shop at a thrift store are generally on a budget. Go easy—err on the side of the buyer. My family and I have spent thousands here over the years for god's sake. Last time I questioned a sale item the cashier told me, “If you don’t like it, don’t shop here.” That’s not how you talk to loyal customers. At that point I had bought several items at full cost and was disputing the price of one item...just bend a little, for god’s sake. If you ever wondered where the money goes, it supports hospital equipment purchases for Hackensack Meridian’s Southern Ocean Medical Center. That’s not necessarily wrong—it just isn’t what most shoppers picture when they think charity. I still stop in occasionally but far less than before. It’s too stressful and inconsistent. Prices are just okay, not great. I go there now mostly because it reminds me of my mom and shopping with her years ago. Nostalgia, basically. Remember who you’re serving: not a hospital’s bottom line but a community looking for affordable clothing and fair treatment. I get it: its run by volunteers and it gets busy (really busy sometimes); just bring it down a notch.

We stop by about every two weeks. Has a large selection of clothes and books. And collectables and table ware.

I live 20 minutes north and I work all the way in North Jersey just drove all the way down here and left work early to get here before they close and they’re not even open for their own post hours. That’s a huge letdown

Decent selection. Not a lot of kids stuff. But the prices are right. On the sale day that I went all shirts and pants were $0.50. shoes were $1. It's clean. And they have a fitting room.

I wish I could leave negative stars. Been shopping here for many years. The staff continues to get ruder and angrier. It must be a requirement to be angry and nasty to be a staff member. The prices are hit or miss. Used to be thrift store prices, now it's "what is this going for on eBay prices". Honestly, I'd be more than happy to pay and support the auxilliary if not for the nasty people running the show here. Do better!

I found this place last Friday and just decided go in today. And look around. I bought a couple of things and pay for it. So I went back to see anything as I like. Didn’t find anything else. all sudden one of the workers just stop me thought I was stealing which I didn’t at all. Plus there no sign in there once you buy you have to leave right away. I didn’t appreciate how I was treated I didn’t even get a sorry or anything about that. I even offered for them to look in my bags to make sure I good. The two that check me out the first time around and believe me and didn’t even look. Who else heard the all thing was my husband he on the phone. I give this place one more try to happen again i never coming back.

CASH ONLY we weren't aware until checking out that they are cash only. They have no signs at the cash register or on the door telling you. Prices are great tho and limited hours, but if you can get to the spot, they do have some good items at good prices
Mar 27, 2025 -
CASH ONLY Prices are a hit or miss they have good deals on the board when u walk in sometimes,I got 10 DVDs for $1. One of the staff members was very rude last time I went. If you don't want to be there don't volunteer. It kind of ruined the experience for me. After reading other reviews I agree that this store has went down hill unfortunately and I've came here since I was a kid with my father. They also rush you out when they are closing 15 mins ahead of time. Then as your checking out she is still complaining about does eveyone know we're closed and did you tell them all (with lots of attitude to other staff) yet there was nobody else there and continued to complain then rip me off taking one of my dvds (that was a series in one case) when I said can I grab one more she said it's fine then realized she just took it off and didn't let me get another one. Not sure if I'll be back if she's still there.management should really check these reviews and fix the problem

AVOID! - This is NOT a 501(c)3/not for profit operation - only they know where the actual money ends up. Tried dropping off some high-end ladies shoes and handbags slightly after their 1pm drop off deadline. A hairless/bald guy came storming out of the back door as if he was a would be bouncer at a night club and said I could not donate! He proceeded to take the box and bag of items and attempted to throw them on the hood of my Mercedes before I physically had to stop him. Took my items back and will find a deserving 'not for profit'. I am just shocked that a good intentioned doner would be treated in such a hostile manner. Could have been handled in a much more professional manner. THINK TWICE BEFORE DONATING AND PATRONIZING this operation. (I'd give it 'negative stars', but had to choose one star in order to post this.)...

They don’t honor their sale signs!!! Watch out they price differently at the checkout!!! Today’s sign was ALL LONG pants $1.00 and jeans 1/2 off. I go to the register with 4 pairs of long pants and because my 1 pair had tags they said it was regular price $8.00 Sign CLEARLY STATES ALL LONG PANTS $1.00!!!

Maddie is very rude. Completely unnecessary the way she responded to me. I had a cute little mirror, it didn’t have a price so I ask how much and Maddie takes it from me and says you can’t buy this today as she is walking away. She said someone took the price off. Why is that my problem and how difficult would it have been to take a few minutes to get a price.

If I could I would leave zero stars . I spent an hour picking out items . We knew it was near closing time because you couldn’t hear the staff talking about it non stop ( meanwhile even now as I’m typing it’s still 10 minutes til closing ) . I was waiting in line and a woman comes over and starts pulling stuff from my hands , I didn’t even know she worked there until she nastily said “ I’m taking you over here”. I get my stuff rung up and then am told ( after having my debit card I hand the whole time ) it’s cash only . I asked if an arm was near by , was given a bast response “ it doesn’t matter we close in 2 minutes “. So I asked “ what if we run up quick and can just pull up and hand you the money and grab the items ?” Again but even nastier “ IT DOESNT MATTER WE CLOSE IN TWO MINUTES !” We then asked if they could set the stuff aside and we would come bring cash in the morning, at this point you’d think I asked her to commit a felony , she got so nasty saying “ NO WE DONT DO HOLDS”. This was the first and last time I will ever go here . The women who work there had an attitude of not wanting to be there from the second we walked in , the whole atmosphere was as if customers were bothersome .

I used to enjoy coming here. There used to be lots of fun items at great prices. Very friendly staff, etc. The last couple times I went there seems to be a woman who seems it's her job to be rude to customers. She has no manners. My most recent and as of right now my last ever visit I had $7 worth of stuff, I only had a $20 bill. She got extremely rude asking, "you don't have anything smaller than that?" When I told her that I do not, she said she's not a bank and can't break a 20 and that I have to put the stuff back. I told her how is it a place like this that does a lot of business not have changed of a 20 and she said again they're not a bank and that I should come prepared with smaller bills. Like it's my fault they don't have change for a 20. I told her I actually might have change in my car and that I'd be right back, I walked out and left. Based on how everything now in the shop is priced ridiculous they should easily have change for a 20. I won't be back.

This place is neverrrrr open! It really blows my mind. Online and on the big sign at their store it says open from 9:30-2:20. But then there’s a smaller sign on their door saying open 11-2. We went at 1 and they still weren’t open. They are not open on weekends either, so you’ve only got 15 hours a week that you can try to get in but even then it’s a gamble bc they seem to just randomly decide what their hours are. It’s wild.

I have NEVER left a one star review. Recently, I had an unfortunate experience at this store that left me deeply disappointed and concerned. What made this encounter particularly disheartening was the behavior of one of the store's workers—a volunteer—who displayed an attitude of rudeness and indifference. While I understand that volunteering is a choice, it is disconcerting to witness someone in a service-oriented role who seems to lack the willingness and enthusiasm to be there. This incident has led me to reflect upon the impact of such behavior on the overall customer experience and the importance of fostering a positive environment, regardless of one's volunteer status. Upon entering the store, it quickly became apparent that the worker in question was disinterested and seemingly bothered by the presence of customers. Her lack of willingness to assist, engage, or even acknowledge customers resulted in an unpleasant atmosphere. It is understandable that everyone has bad days, including volunteers, but when someone willingly takes on a service-oriented role, it is crucial to maintain a level of professionalism and respect towards customers. I am a frequent visitor. Everything I am here, she has it out with someone. I would gladly volunteer in her place , just so her rudeness won't ruin someone else's day. I WILL NOT VISIT THIS STORE AGAIN AS LONG AS SHE IS HERE. Anyone that has visited this store will know EXACTLY who I am talking about. Customer service is the backbone of any successful business or organization. In the case of a volunteer-run store, it becomes even more vital to provide exceptional service as the volunteers are the face of the establishment. Each interaction is an opportunity to leave a lasting impression and ensure customers feel valued and appreciated. Unfortunately, the worker's rude behavior conveyed the opposite message, making customers feel unwelcome and unimportant. The negative encounter with the rude worker had a significant impact on my overall experience as a customer. It left me questioning whether my patronage was truly valued and whether I wouls ever return to the store in the future. Furthermore, the unfavorable impression created by this worker may deter potential customers from exploring the store, leading to missed opportunities for growth and support. While it is essential to acknowledge the dedication and contributions of volunteers, it is equally important to address instances where their behavior falls short. Volunteers should be provided with clear guidelines and expectations regarding their interactions with customers to ensure a positive experience for all. The encounter with a rude volunteer worker at the store was deeply disheartening. It served as a reminder of the importance of maintaining professionalism and dedication, regardless of one's volunteer status. It is my hope that this incident will be addressed, promoting a culture of respect and appreciation for customers in the store.

CASH ONLY - They carry items for the whole family and it’s a great place to find books and houseware items. They are pretty clean and organized the staff is all very friendly and their prices are reasonable. They also have a wonderful used bridal shop, amazing prices.

I really love shopping here. There's always a fun selection of items and in the past the prices have been reasonable. Lately they've raised the prices on some items well beyond what I think should be reasonable for a thrift store. I looked at some used dresses for over $20 and they weren't formal wear. I've gotten some good quality items, that are clean and useful. It's always great to buy used especially as a young person with my first home. It's also great to have a local donation center. It's all totally run by volunteers and the profit goes to support the hospital so I feel like shopping here is a good choice. There's usually a good selection of books, clothes and kitchen items. I wish they had longer weekend hours again so working people can shop here.

I absolutely love the shop..my finds are amazing! The work that goes into taking in the donations, sorting, cleaning, pricing and then put out for shopping, the work is endless and when I learned it was all done by volunteers, my respect for them had risen to higher levels. I have seen women acting out, speaking rudely and it makes me mad that people could act like this towards the staff.
Jul 14, 2023 -
The customers and many of the employees are very rude. The atmosphere as a whole is miserable. A woman (customer i assume) saw I was trying to look at the frames and she was in the way and got mad when I went around her. In addition to that, i was trying to look at stuff on the shelves and I had an employee huff and puff at me. I ended up just leaving the store bc I was so annoyed. I used to enjoy shopping here. In fact, some of my best finds have come from here. However, this experience has turned me away from shopping here. They also close really early considering the fact they open at 9:30. Sometimes they are just closed for no reason.

We love visiting the Old & New Thrift Shop! I’ve been taking my three children there for years and we always make sure to stop by when we are down. The staff is always so helpful and friendly and the prices are very fair. The selection is fantastic. The manager, Maddie, is wonderful and always goes out of her way to be kind to me and my children. I can’t say enough about how much we love this shop!!

When I was a kid this place was magical to me, I’d buy beautiful well kept barbies from the early 2000’s 90’s and even 80’s for $2 each. Now they charge crazy prices for used things that they got for totally free mind you. $35 for a holiday barbie from the 90’s, $50 for a set of glasses, a purse $50, and well you get my point. These items are donated for a good cause not to make profit off of people. Thrift stores are suppose to help those who are looking for a good deal because they can’t afford retail find what they’re looking for, whether its clothing, a music box, jewelry, a doll, a more expensive handbag, a coat for a good price and help a good cause while you’re at it. To charge what they go for retail and on ebay is totally selfish. People who need a coat have to pay 100$ for a good leather one, why? No one can afford what they charge. I’ve seen people try to buy things and the item be taken away by the manager because they were being charged too little for it.. Are you kidding me? Business is business none the less. I wouldn’t be surprised if the manager pockets the money, you wouldn’t care how much things go for if you weren’t getting something from it. Oh! And they google how much the items go for to charge 30%-50% of what people sell it for on ebay. If the prices were 10% of what things go for retail they’d get so much more business. This thrift store is chasing the penny and will miss out on the dime in the end. Sad it ended up this way but I blame whoever hired the manager, she verbally abuses and berates the volunteers and customers.

I have been going into this store for over 15 years. Seems like it is under new management. The woman managing it is so NASTY to the volunteers and to the customers. Today, I just witnessed her berating the volunteer lady at the register infront of customers. She snaps when asked a question, she barges through the store like a bull. No patience if someone is in her way, moves too slowly. Heaven forbid you have to ask her a price.... not a pleasant place to shop anymore.

This thrift shop is one of the best all around stores. I find it to be immaculate well priced organized neat and clean. The staff is always hopeful and the manager Maddy is always there to answer a question and to assist. She is very pleasant and helpful. I think this is one of the best thrift shops around.
