Alex was really good. He took a look at my battery and determined it was not problem swapping the battery for me and did it efficiently along with giving me back the core recycle credit without asking.
The reason I didn't give the store a 5-star was that the ladies there were not that helpful. I bought the battery online that morning because the website said they could install the battery for me. I also called 2 weekends ago to confirm that it could be done. I did mention on the phone there was a cover to the battery and I could easily remove it without problem back then. When I got to the store, a lady told me the technician wasn't there and I had to come back after 4 or the next day after 1. It wasn't a problem but she said if there was a cover, they may not be able to do it, even though I said I had called to confirmed before. She went on to say that day the installation was fully booked. She sometimes told me to come back after 4 but then obviously preferred me to go back the next day. She almost wanted me to just pick up the battery before confirming they could do the installation for me. She just wanted to complete the transaction but not really keen on helping me solve the problem of replacing the battery that their website said they would do. I went back after 4pm when Alex was on duty and the lady was gone. There was no line and Alex just did replacement it for me right away. There were other customers in the store but there wasn't really a line at the cashiers. I didn't have to wait at all when I got there and I also didn't see anyone coming in for battery replacement when I went back in to double-check on the recycle credit. So I really didn't see any "fully booked" situation. The lady on the phone 2 weeks ago also told me they couldn't do it that same day when I called. There is probably just one or more female workers that who just want to discourage customers from going in for battery replacement at least on the weekends. The most frustrating part was when she told me they might not be able to do it even though someone told me they could just 2 weeks ago. I saw other reviews complaining about a lady that was not helpful at all so maybe there is just one bad apple. But Alex is great! If you need a battery replacement, just call and ask when Alex will be there. They work on shift I suppose.Jan 21, 2026 -

I had an issue with my battery and an employee named Alex helped me install a new one and temporarily fixed my battery terminal so I could get home and take to a mechanic and replace the piece tomorrow. He did an incredible job and was amazingly helpful even as they were closing the store for the day!! 5 ⭐

Hire people that can speak English please, couldn't get what i need cause she was rude and didn't want to speak English. EVEN WORSE, when she refused to give me any kind of service twice, I approached her coworker and he was able to help me and find what I needed in under 2 minutes. She did nothing but waste my time.

What a difference one person can make. I’m dropping this to 1 star. My previous interaction here with a gentleman was excellent, but this time I dealt with a lady who was just plain cranky.
I had placed an order for pickup, but due to an email issue, I didn’t get a notification, so I stopped by to check. Instead of being helpful, she told me, “Just because you ordered it doesn’t mean we have it. You can order anything you want, but that doesn’t mean we have it.” That made no sense—especially since the system wouldn’t let me select another store because it showed out of stock there. If the item wasn’t available for pickup at this location, it shouldn’t have let me place the order in the first place.
She finally looked it up and said, “See, we don’t have it.” No effort to check another store, no solutions offered—just attitude. Then I watched her handle another customer looking for a mirror. Instead of offering real assistance, she just pointed to an aisle. When the customer asked for help, she told her to come back to the counter so she could “look it up.” The customer asked if someone could help her in the aisle, and again the associate repeated, “Come back to the counter.”
The lack of customer service here is shocking, especially for a national chain. Most big retailers nowadays try to create a positive customer experience—this felt like a step backwards. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this was frustrating enough to make me say I will never return to this location—and possibly not to Advance Auto Parts at all. Great location, good store, good customer service , good parts ..reliable and trustworthy staff ...im a mechanic so yes im usally there everyday no need to shop around cost effective compared to other auto stores..they have my approval.

Store was unwilling to install a battery purchased from the store via an online order. Said the problem was vehicle has a start-stop engine even though the online web page indicated these could be installed.

Christy is an angel on earth. I was dreading getting my check engine light looked at and she made it so easy and even recommended a shop for me to take my car to. Saved me a ton of money and was so sweet to me on what started as a terrible day.

Been here several times over the last 5 years and the last three times, the cashier overwrote my speed perks number to enter their own account. They tell me to print the receipt and I can see someone else's email on the terminal. My speed perks shows zero rewards. Since three different people did this over a few years time I suspect it's a management level scam. Maybe they are selling the things they buy with stolen rewards. Maybe on eBay. Maybe to shops. Not going here anymore.

Last week Millie, Wendie and Alex helped me resolve a battery draining issue with my Honda. They fully recharged and tested my battery and alternator to get me back on the road again. Everyone was very supportive, timely in their actions and helped me get back on the road again. Great customer service and positive action by all.

I came in to purchase brake pads and front rotors and was helped by Wendie. In addition to helping me find the right parts quickly she also identified a sizing issue on the rotors, ordered the right size that wasn't in stock, and had them waiting for me that afternoon after they arrived. Would definitely recommend.

Today I was at store. And need to buy meds battery for my car . But they told me they can’t install battery in my car because they are closing at 9.00PM. I was store by 8.20Pm . That manager don’t care about any business . They don’t want to sell battery and they don’t want to install in my car .

Three weeks ago, I had the pleasure of receiving assistance from Ray at Advance Auto Parts for a spark plug issue, and I was compelled to share my positive experience. Today, I find myself writing yet another review, this time for a different Ray – a younger colleague, who has proven to be equally exceptional.
Navigating battery issues can often be straightforward, but as luck would have it, my situation was anything but. Despite the unexpected complications, Ray's patience and perseverance were unwavering. He approached every challenge with a solution-oriented mindset, ensuring no stone was left unturned until my vehicle was running smoothly again. His dedication to customer service and technical expertise did not go unnoticed.
I cannot recommend Advance Auto Parts highly enough. I'll start off by saying I'm probably like most guys and don't feel like I need help and will just figure it out. Nice guy Darius offered and offered to assist me on my attempted purchase of a new car battery. I refused politely and eventually put in an online order to buy the battery. And of course, I ended up buying the wrong car battery and I had to frantically race back to the store and exchange it.
Darius gladly undid my online purchase and reprocessed it as a in-store purchase. He even gave me a big discount that I didn't even get with my online purchase. I give him props for that and his overall service.May 16, 2023 -
Angel by far is the best. He was nice and very helpful and he even taught me a few tricks when he was changing my lights and battery. I recommend if you go here, make sure he tends to you. You won’t be disappointed

As soon as I got in Angel and the rest of the team greeted me well, and the service is too tier. I needed to get my battery replaced and it was done to perfection and with efficiency by Angel, also I needed the check on tire pressure and Angel helped me out with them. Excellent service. Highly recommend.

Came in to get a new car battery, convinced I could replace it quickly myself, Angel said he wouldn’t mind replacing it for me. As we pop the hood, I see huge amounts of corrosion from a leaking battery. I realized I was not equipped to handle that, but Angel made short work of it, in the pouring rain late at night no less. Good customer service is so hard to come by, and good people even harder. This guy saved me from a nightmare and was happy to do it. Thanks again so much.

CJ was the greatest. It felt so good to have someone that works and knows how to do their job. It's called knowing your line of work. CJ took care of me so quick it was incredible! It was so obvious that she knew l aspects of her job. It is individuals like her that make you feel good about continuing to shop at a large chain store. Keep up the good work CJ! Call to order a part and was put on hold.
11 min later phone disconnected. Call again and was put on hold 9 min later phone disconnected. 3 time I call and told the associated that I was on hold two times and he said that he was the only one behind the counter, and he was busy. So again I was on hold for about 11 min. I just hung up and walked there for the part that they did not have. Could have saved me some time by walking there in the first place witch took me 17 min to get there.
Went to Auto Zone and got what I needed.
This is Advance on grand st jersey city.

If i could leave them a zero star review i would. I came here on a Saturday night at 7:45pm. The store is open until 8:00 pm posted on the door. The employee decided to close the store early for their own convenience. I’ll be reaching out to corporate on Monday as well to file a complaint.

They have incorrect hours on their web site. I got there 5 min after closing. I just needed a socket and they wouldn't help me. I offered to pay in cash and they could put it into the register in the morning.
I spent $10.00 on an uber to get there. All a waste. And there fault for not keeping their web site current.

Sales associates very helpful. Doesn't always have everything in store inventory to buy for specific vehicles, but they can place order from other stores, or from third party party. Through them, my order came and install on my vehicle.

Knowledgeable staff and everything you would need for your car. I've been here quite a few times regarding my battery and each time they recharged it and inspected the battery to make sure it was fine. I appreciate the honesty displayed by this location. I come back here very frequently just to buy different items.
