Avoid NJ State Auto!
Our family purchased a car from Jacob at NJ State Auto, and it turned out to be a complete nightmare. The car had two unaddressed recalls, a damaged windshield washer hose from an animal chewing it and building a nest beneath the trim under the windshield, and developed (what we found out later was a) engine knocking within days.
When we returned the car, they kept it for a week, ignored calls and texts, and eventually said, “There’s nothing we can do. It may be an engine problem.” The manufacturer’s dealership later confirmed the car needed a brand new engine, less than a month after purchase.
Be cautious of the positive reviews. They pressure you to leave 5-star ratings before you drive off the lot, and when negative reviews appear, their “please call us” replies lead nowhere. We repeatedly tried to reach managers Ezzy and Sam, only to be told, “Final sale, nothing we can do.”
Bottom line: NJ State Auto is not reputable and sells unsafe, poorly inspected cars. Save yourself the stress and go elsewhere.
Very shady. Their cars are advertised at false price online.... $4,000 in dealer fees? And they wanted to show the manager my debit card as proof of interest in buying the car? Also you can only test drive it in a parking lot? Had a bad feeling as soon as I walked into the place but what do you expect from jersey city. Don't buy anything from them
Superb service. We we're greeted outside right at the front door by Dre with a big smile. He was very understanding, quick, great personality and humor. He assited like no other. Recommended options and was very efficient with the whole process. Best customer service and I will definitely recommend others. Overall absolutely happy with the service he had provided.
I recently purchased my 2nd vehicle in the last 3 years from this dealership through their exceptionally good salesperson Andrew.
The first vehicle I purchased was an rare Range Rover Autobiography model that was in showroom condition, except for one small issue that I discovered a week later, and when I reported it, he promptly addressed the issue in a way that exceeded my expectation
The second vehicle was an Audi EV and he did an exceptional job explaining to me the pros and cons and made sure that I understood the implied warranty if I encountered any issues and gave me a very fair price.
I would purchase my next vehicle from him and enthusiastically recommend him to anyone in the market for a vehicle.
At no point did I feel pressured or manipulated by him. He was straightforward during the negotiations and very very easy to deal with.
If you want the absolute best car buying experience, you must ask for Andrew! I cannot praise him enough, he was super wonderful to work with, got everything done efficiently, and truly went above and beyond for me. The people being kind and nice are the scam. They sold me a car with a broken steering rod, and multiple problems. They were not upfront. They told me I only needed a new battery but that was a lie. Thank God I didn't ever go on the highway God protected me from that death trap of a car I was sold. The steering wheel stopped working thank God it was just a tree & the death trap car protected me.
Straight to the point, I was sold a vehicle that had engine issues. I went to the dealer to purchase a vehicle I saw on their website. A few days later I realized that the windshield fluid wasn't working and I was hearing a knocking sound coming from what I thought was under the car. After having the car looked at, come to find out there was a squirrel or some other animal living under the trim by the windshield and chewed out the hose. By the amount of nuts and leaves and debris that was stored under there it had to have happened way before I purchased the vehicle. After that I decided to take the car back to the dealer to have them check out the knocking sound. They held my car for a week and was very difficult to get onto when I tried to get updates throughout that week. When I finally got on to them they told me I would need to take it to the maker of the vehicle to have them look at it because they think it's an engine issue. The same day I picked it up from them I took it straight to the maker and was told that there were two recalls on the vehicle and that the engine would need to be completely replaced. It is now a little over a month since I bought that vehicle and I've driven it 3 times total. Worst decision I made purchasing the vehicle from this dealership.

Waste of time went all there only to not be honored the price. I wanted to pay cash. Which I stated before coming to the appointment. Told me he will find something else in my price range. Salesman was rude left me in the car and listened to my conversation with my husband on the phone while he was in the office. I decided to leave he came out exactly on time and all he said was peace out! Don’t recommend this place. Found a better deal at Acura in Verona with a newer year!!!

car went into limp mode and threw a check engine on the way home after paying cash in full and being “guaranteed.” Everything was preached to be perfect and guaranteed but we weren’t allowed to test drive on the highway due to “loss of value due to mileage.” I was told the car had been gone through meticulously and was perfect. The car was a gift for a family member and it didn’t even make it into the driveway. Circling the car in a fenced in parking lot is all that was allowed, we could not drive a car outside of dealership. Spent entire day at dealership to wind up with an unreliable unsafe car. A constant back and forth with unnecessary fees way above the asking price. Will change review if the dealership responds and acts accordingly. (They have not, they have zero care about their customers, and absolutely cut all the corners they can.) this business is the exact definition of a “shady used car dealer.” I cannot stress enough not to buy a car from this dealership. The manager ,owner and salesman did absolutely nothing to right any wrongs. Unless you’re planning to spend THOUSANDS above asking don’t even bother going to this dealership. Please, take our word for it and learn from our mistakes. Everything is smoke in mirrors. Stay away.

Highly recommended this dealership for purchasing a used vehicle! My parents have bought all of our cars here over the last 10+ years and I recently financed my first. We met with Dre and he was available from start to finish throughout the whole process, from exploring the different cars, our lifestyle, budget, and finance options. He made the most stressful parts of the process incredibly easy, even on his days off! Dre also speaks fluent Spanish, which was very helpful for my parents who speak Spanish as a first language— he made all of us feel reassured!
I highly recommend buying from this dealership. From Jasmine to Andrew this was a great experience. I bought this car for my daughter's sweet 16th birthday and these guys made this as smooth as possible. The car was even out of gas when they gave it to me and Andrew gave me money out of his wallet for gas! He definitely didn't have to do that but that is customer service! Amazing!
Update: Once we got home to NY we had to get the car inspected. The first thing they pointed out was that the car had 2 different pairs of tires on it with different wear on them which is bad for an AWD vehicle. The next thing is that the car said that it needed service and that it was 267 days past due for service. Yet, I paid the dealership $2,995 for services like tires, oil change, etc. When I called the dealership guess what?????? Nothing! No return calls, no response, nothing.
I had a terrible experience at NJ State Auto, and if I could give zero stars, I would. The entire process felt dishonest — especially the way the manager handled the situation. Honestly, it felt like he was born to scam people. That’s how smooth and unapologetic he was while completely dodging responsibility.
I went in with a deal clearly laid out: a specific out-the-door price, a deposit paid, and the rest to be financed. But after signing the paperwork, I found out they had added thousands of dollars to the loan without ever explaining why. There were no added features, no extras — just a completely different number that I never agreed to.
When I went back to address it, the manager didn’t care. He acted like it was normal, gave no real answers, and tried to confuse me with vague excuses. He wouldn’t take accountability for anything — instead, he deflected, blamed “the system,” and tried to talk circles around the issue like he’d done this dozens of times before. It felt rehearsed, like this wasn’t the first time someone caught them pulling a fast one.
Even though I never took full delivery of the car, they still pushed a loan through under my name. It took a huge effort — including complaints to Ally Financial and consumer protection agencies — just to get it reversed.
My advice: stay far away from this dealership. Especially be careful dealing with the manager or anyone from their finance team. They are not there to help you — they are there to trap you in a deal that benefits them, not you.
Beware of $5,000 Hidden Fees!
Drove 4 hours round trip for a car listed at a good price—then got hit with $5,000+ in hidden fees for “inspection”, "doc", and “towing.” The real price is nowhere near what’s advertised. Don’t waste your time—this place is a scam!
Thank you to Jimmy for helping me walk out the same day with my dream car. He was very patient and understanding throughout the whole time. Will recommend Jimmy 100% to everyone I know.
