There was an amazing employee there today who went above and beyond Emerest Health of NJ. I’m the Recruitment Supervisor and went with our Marketer Jason. She accommodated our plans to feed the elderly and ensured we checked out our last minute catering her name is Chikara. GOD Bless Chikara
The staffs were very rude and not very helpful and have falsely accused me of stealing potato and egg salad. Thanks to how I was treated and how they treated Jason from what I saw I'm too am not coming back here ever again for the rest of my life.
Nice grocery selection. It’s not the closest stone to us, but has the biggest selection. There is also a liquor store in the back that has a good selection and the best prices in the area.
This place has all the essential items and food you can get. Fresh vegetables and fruits. Meats are always stock in the morning. It's not too busy on a regular basis.
Worst customer service I’ve experienced in a long time. I called ahead to see if they had an item because I live far away, and instead of being helpful, the employee was incredibly rude and lazy. She refused to check and told me to “just come into the store and look for it myself” because they’re short staffed.
Being short staffed is NOT an excuse to have an attitude or treat customers like an inconvenience. The tone was disrespectful and unprofessional. If answering a simple question over the phone is too much to ask, then customer service clearly isn’t a priority here. Save yourself the time and frustration and shop somewhere else.
Pop quiz: when does the 10 items or less become "maybe we take 30 items" while everyone who is doing the right thing waits for the kid at the register to not say anything. Not good. And thats why you should go to Amazon Fresh

Great shopping experience at the ShopRite in Jersey City! The store is clean, well-organized, and has a huge selection of groceries at affordable prices. The produce is fresh, shelves are well-stocked, and it’s easy to find everything you need. I also picked up a Cherry Jubilee cake from the bakery, and it was delicious and beautifully made. The staff is friendly and helpful, and checkout is efficient. Always a reliable and convenient place to shop—highly recommended!
I am giving this place one star for a few reasons. For one thing if you have to place an order at seafood they take forever and they made me late leaving the store. Also, the staff are very rude and don't want to help in any way possible. I do not recommend going here and as such this place gets 1 star from me.
I've been shopping at this location for years, mostly out of habit. I'm tired of buying very expensive produce and dairy just to throw it out because it's already gone bad. This location has always sold fruit that is going bad, and lately I'm finding cheeses and yogurt are bad too. I just don't have the time to go back and try to make returns after every trip. I'm moving on to the local Whole Foods and/or Target as they don't sell rotten food.
Unfortunately this has to be the worst ShopRite I’ve been to in my life. It’s very clear this ShopRite thinks an underserved community deserves disgusting produce. Rotten, moldy fruits and vegetables. Fish that’s a day away from expiring. Berries which are likely rotting. I have to open every box just to make sure they’re not spoiled. I think other ShopRite’s give this store their rotting goods meant for the trash.
Most of the staff that manages the self checkout Line are unbelievably rude. I live close by or I would completely avoid this location forever. They treat paying customers like crap
I shopped at this place around 5:30 PM on October 3 using the self checkout kiosk. I’d recommend the female staff to change the profession if she doesn’t even have the patience to help a customer with one broccoli coupon. You don’t have to smile all the time, but you also don’t have to be a racist.
Prices can be good sometimes, but the staff are unbelievably rude. Today the woman at cashier 12 literally ignored us the entire time. I mean she did not look at us once, stayed on her phone, and completely dismissed us even when we asked if she was open, said hello, and started putting our items down. She ignored us so hard that we ended up repacking everything and going somewhere else. Absolutely unacceptable. Rude. Rude. Rude. Rude. Damn I’m still shocked.

This place has so much potential to be one of the best Shoprites in New Jersey due to the size. However, the main issue is the infrastructure and decor has older vibes. It is large and has a range of products. Main issue is the chaos of the parking lot. It used to be bigger and now it has gotten significantly smaller due to the building next door. The lines need to be streamlined especially during peak hours. The lines feel long. The liquor store is the best part.
I order delivery almost every week. Today I ordered twice and they canceled my order both times! No reason why they canceled in my account. I saw they called me at 1 PM when I was at work but I didn’t know it was their number because it didn’t say on the caller ID. I called shoprite today at 5:30 PM to speak with someone to ask why they canceled my order. She said to me “I can’t tell you because I worked in the afternoon and the order was made in the morning”. Apparently I was supposed to have called them right after they cancelled the order. My order is #6288683. I don’t understand why they don’t have on record the reason for cancellation. Very inconvenient when this service is supposed to be to make it convenient for customers who don’t have time to shop in store. Disappointed and hesitant to shop here again.
This store is definitely convenient and well-stocked, which is great for the neighborhood. However, as someone who lives directly behind the store, the early morning noise from delivery trucks is really disruptive. The loud beeping from reversing trucks and frequent horn honking can be quite jarring — sometimes even physically uncomfortable. I hope the store can take steps to reduce the noise impact on nearby residents while continuing to serve the community well.
Updated- July, 2023. I got an item without barcode so I requested for assistance, then the staff offered to get another one for me, while I keep waiting and pressing yes for “do you wish to continue shopping?” He came back to cashier with the same item (I think it was the only one left) and “randomly” entered a price. I checked the price with the brand name on app, and saw the actual price, which is lower than the one he “randomly” entered. He was suspicious saying it is different location, then I switched to the right place to prove him the price. During this time, he even dropped the item without saying sorry. At least, I purchased with the correct price at the end, but felt disappointed and being fooled around.
I think the items display could be more organized and the carts in this location are really awful, they are in different brands or sizes, so sometimes it’s hard to pull out a cart. And mostly there are some up side down or looks problematic carts in the entrance of the store. The staff are willing to help but looks not quite motivated.
What a shock to see construction goin on..,haven’t shopped here in a year. Always to much traffic. Not good prices etc. well this visit was just as disappointing as before. Store is not organized well, it’s kinda small compared to other ShopRite’s and they don’t have a good selection of items. The setup is just to messy. I highly recommend other locations. This is good for just a few items if they have it.

Friendly Staff. 6. Delicious Tres Leches Cake Slices and Affordable. Next party I'm ordering a whole tray! 7. Great Quality/Super Affordable of Beef Neck Bones (For cooking Caribbean Style or Soul Food Style Oxtails Substitute) Since Oxtails are Expensive in America... 8. Lamb Neck Bones are Great Quality/Super Affordable too for Curry Lamb or Lamb Stew... 9. The Best Italian Rainbow Cookies or for some Cakes in Jersey City. Hands down! 10. Apple Snail Danishes are Deeelicious. 11. Guava and Cream Cheese Snail Danishes are Deeeeelicious.
ShopRite Of Metro Plaza is probably the only supermarket in or near downtown Jersey City. This is a 7-10 mins walk from the Grove Street path station and about 12-15 mins walk from the Newport path station. You get everything from biscuits to meat to fruits to Vegetables here. They have a wide variety of spread and the vegetables and fruits are always fresh. It has a bakery where they bake fresh muffins and different breads. It also have a section for fresh meat and this sometimes had a pretty long waiting especially on Sundays. The liquor store is the life saves and the prices here are comparable to Super Buy Rite and had a lot of spot offers which is great. Overall we can get everything here for our day to day needs.
ShopRite of Metro Plaza is downtown Jersey City’s only major supermarket and meets that responsibility handily. This grocer’s strong suit is it’s excellent value and great selection. It’s shortcomings are long cashier and deli lines during peak hours.
Located only minutes from the Grove St PATH station and downtown area, and with plenty of (free) parking, you won’t have a hard time getting to or from this spot.
The store can get quite busy but if you can avoid Sunday afternoons, or the few days leading up to a holiday weekend, then you‘ll meet little resistance. They’ve recently added self-checkout lanes to address cashier congestion, and it’s done a good job. Expect to occasionally encounter above average waits at the deli or seafood counter.
The store offers a wide selection of pretty much everything, as you’d expect from a major supermarket. They also have a generously sized liquor store, as well as a whole food/healthy food aisle.
Overall I highly recommend this grocery store as it’s the only truly affordable option in downtown Jersey City. While boutique spots like Sprove (a few blocks down the street) routinely mark up items as much as 100%, ShopRite is almost always fairly priced. Just be prepared to wait a bit longer in return.
This is for CDL drivers making delivery to this place. It's easy place to make delivery. Roads are wide enough to maneuver. Also docks are easy to back in if those small delivery trucks are not there.
