On my way in this morning, there was trash all over 35W in Mounds View and Arden Hills. My first thought was a garbage truck was up ahead. I caught up to the Eureka Recycling truck and trash was flying out of it. The name on the side of the truck was Rick Junior. Do better Eureka!

When they aren’t missing collecting (and lying about the bin not being set out), they are spilling the contents of the neighbors’ in the alley to be cleaned up. We all need to start escalating issues to the council and insisting - even by votes- they hold the company accountable and that they correct the issues. I was actually told that I could drop it off. Why would I do that when I pay for the service???

2021 - Half the time they don't even fully empty our containers. Two weeks ago, our entire recycling container was left untouched. We left it out in case the pick up was delayed; assuming this must be the case. It was not. The following week they decided to pick it up. This morning, woke up to the contents of the bin strewn all over the street in front of our home. Really horrible service, if you can call it that. Especially during the pandemic when we have much larger amounts of recycling to dispose of properly, i.e. cardboard boxes from doing much of our shopping at home. All around horrible service. Update: Oh fun! I got a letter on "how to Recycle" from the City of Saint Paul! I hope they sent Eureka one too; along with instructions on "HOW TO NOT DUMP TRASH ALL OVER THE STREET EVERY OTHER PICKUP". Still terrible 3 years after my original review. Also, famous for missed pickups. Though, in 2024, of five total missed pickups, we did *one time* have a sweet woman call and check in on our missed pickup complaint, and not lie to us or pull anything (first time ever with Eureka, wow do they love to lie when they mess up!!!). So I've now had 1 positive Customer Service Experience since Saint Paul began using this company/moving here 12 years ago. One good experience in 12 years isn't enough to budge my rating an inch, though. Still tragic we are stuck with these people. Truly the worst. I wish I could switch services but my tax dollars go straight to Eureka without my say. 10/1/24 Our recycling was not picked up and I called in a missed pickup, I got no reason of why just an apology and assurance it would be picked up. I was working on my lawn, near my curbside, when they returned in the afternoon. I was friendly, waved, said "Hi! Thanks!" to the employee who scowled at me and the political yard signs I was about to place. He slapped something in my bin, I asked what it was and he glared at me ran into the truck and they sped away. The company refused to take my complaint for the unprofessional and rude behavior and pinned it on me, saying that items that are bearing a "RECYCLE" tag on them were "contaminants" and without being specific, told me to "remove contaminants" (one was a Target bag, I could've plucked out any "contaminants" when the driver was there as I was 3 feet away from him), and that I would not get service until the next week. At *any point in time*, from my first call as to why I did not receive service or before they came back, they could have informed me that they hate Target bags (labeled recyclable) and it needs to go into my other container. Easy. So simple, but not for them. I guess I just won't recycle anymore so I don't have to deal with Eureka ever ever ever ever again. Eureka Non-Recycling is a tragedy of an organization, taking my tax dollars with a huge smile and masquerading as an NPO. I want a responsible, accountable company in charge of my city's Recycling program. Please replace this travesty of a company in the Saint Paul area, none of us can stand Eureka. I want to recycle as much as possible to help our planet, but they make it infuriating and impossible. It makes me want to vomit with rage that my tax dollars fund this total mess.

I wish there were an option for zero stars. This place is a joke. We've only lived in St. Paul for 2 years and I've had to call Eureka five times for missed collection...5 TIMES!! And, because there are many multi- family houses in our neighborhood, over full cans is an issue that leads to trash everywhere. We can hardly make it out of our alley sometimes with all the trash blown everywhere. Gross...super disappointed.

Difference between 2 companies. Eureka leavs their bins farther in the street, on both sides. So if there is two cars coming down the street, one has to wait. Something so simple but so annoying. I wish Walters did recycle in Shoreview. They are so much better and more friendly.

Unprofessional, lazy, inconsistent. Constantly does not collect our recycling cans that are placed as well as they can be within our tight alley. Often knocks over our trash cans without regard. Sometimes comes before 7am to wake us up (before city ordinance noise hours), sometimes doesn't come at all. Wish I could give zero stars, wish we could go back to street collection.

Eureka stated to the city that our cart wasn't pushed out. We had it pushed out the night before, it was super windy. If the wind pushing it down equals cart not being pushed out, then eureka should come up with an alternative. Not like they ever collect extras in paper bags anyway! The most unprofessional company ever, makes me question how much lying they must enjoy doing. Shame on Eureka, city of st. Paul it's time for you to find a better solution. Eureka deserves ZERO stars

Constant missed pick-ups (and partial pick-ups, that I have to clean up myself). I've lost count of how many times I found my recycling can tipped in the middle of the road. Thought it was kids till I caught Eureka. I will say that half the time they are perfect. But the weakest link breaks the chain.

I don’t know what poor working conditions or poor workmanship is the issue but time and time again I come home from work to a missed pickup or a mess of recycling shattered or leaflets of paper about. It’s a crime that there’s no other service that we can utilize.

Coming back from work and found glass all over the alley and by my garage. There’s kids that ride their bike in the ally. Do a better job Eureka Recycling!

Update: Its been two years since my original review and nothing has changed. My recycling doesn't get picked up at least once a month. Eureka is about as horrible as they come. They don't pick up half the time. When they do, they don't empty the barrel completely. Their drivers are absolutely reckless. Last year they took out my mailbox when the driver was driving without the arm being properly retracted. Yesterday I saw he was driving with the arm not being secured again. I guess its easy not to care when you win big city contracts.

This company regularly misses pickups. Our bins are always out and ready as we keep them in the alley, and at least half the time they don't get picked up. If there is any snow on the ground, they don't pick up. If it's raining, they don't pick up. If they just don't feel like stopping the truck, they don't pick up. I've called and complained countless times, but it doesn't help. Last time I was told they would send out the truck again, since they missed our pick up. Guess what didn't happen? Completely useless company.

Very unreliable. They only pickup recycling from our street when they feel like. They will go weeks without attempting to pickup, they keep promising to come back the next day, and repeat this same message, but fail to actual show up. They will claim due to weather, yet all other vehicles do just fine, and they will use this excuse even on clear days with zero snow. Sadly they have the contract with St Paul, so we can't look elsewhere, hopefully the next contract will go to a company that cares. Shouldn't have to pay for a service that they don't perform.
Mar 07, 2023 -
They are not able to perform to the level they need to. Last week our recycling was not picked up due to a routing error, the entire alley on the north side did not get picked up. Then, this week they did not pick up our recycling due to the alley being icy. No kidding, it is Minnesota in February, buy a set of chains. To not be able to perform in normal Minnesota winter conditions tells me that they should not hold the Saint Paul contract. I had a freezer delivered in the same alley today in an empty Penske moving truck. Theoretically, just as light if not lighter than a recycling truck. When speaking to the customer service agent they informed me that due to being a non profit and not having as many trucks as larger companies, they cannot risk a truck getting stuck. So this is now the homeowners problem to bear. We are expected to get 24 inches of snow in the next three days, I am anticipating that our recycling will be picked up sometime in April. We are simply paying for a service that does not meet expectations and it is unfortunate that the residents of Saint Paul do not have other options.

So one of my children accidentally put a bag of clothes in the recycling bin (by mistake) but this guy had so much time on his hands that he dug through the his rear loader truck in threw all the trash on my curb I can’t believe this is who the city has too deal with for our recycling. How sloppy you should of just left it

They missed picking up my recycling bins and blames me for not putting it out. I know that I put the BINs out the night before they come pick it up and they said that they will review the picture/video. I asked if they can send me that picture so I can make sure that it was my house, but they refuse to. I now know why this company has such a low review. Saint Paul needs to pick a better company or I will stop recycling. Edit: They picked up my trash after looking at the video twice. Also they missed my trash 2 weeks later and said the same thing that I didn't put out the bins. They also came back to get the bins the next day. They need to retrain and get new management.

They decided that because we had put our recycling to close to the pole they wouldn't take our recycling for the week. It's been in the same spot for the last SEVEN years that we have lived here, no problems. I guess the workers are getting lazy. They had the time to put the sign on our cart but didn't have the time to take it before leaving it. The city needs to get a better recycling service. They also don't bother to take the extras you leave out there in boxes even though they claim they do. Lazy workers and horrible service!

The 13 year old that mows my lawn has better work ethic than the drivers employed by Eureka. I had a full bin and needed to recycle additional cardboard boxes. They were all cut into manageable pieces and set neatly beside the bin for pickup. I came home to this, an empty bin 8 feet down from where it was set and the cardboard left behind. Apparently the employee(s) of Eureka could not be bothered to leave the truck and collect the cardboard that could not be emptied into the truck with the automatic claw. Laziness and poor work ethic at its best.

They should recycling the Eureka company itself. Last week they didn’t pick up and called in they said “the recycling card wasn’t there” even though I rolled the bin out there myself, this week they didn’t take it again and I called in they said “the opening side of the cart not facing the street”, I went out and turned the bin around, I saw the recycling truck back out from the alley and I told him that I did turned the bin around already and the guy just ignored and gone. The most horrible company for the community work, the city will getting worse with a company like this to take care of the city, No Wonder Trash Is All over The Place.

Eureka recycling had been wonderful until about 5 months ago where the (I think 1, in that some weeks everything does get picked up) driver stopped emptying all the recycling bins despite my efforts to make sure that the proper items were in the bins. The customer service manager there named Lisa is somewhat enabling of said driver who won't pick up all the bins, and management above Lisa isn't doing anything about it. This week all the bins were picked up/emptied, but it's not reliable like it used to be; some weeks they're not all picked up/emptied.

Recycling hasn't been picked up from the bin, next to the garage in the alley, for 3 weeks. I'm told they won't pick up unless there are two feet of clearance around the bin and it's all shoveled out. I'm wondering if they'd want a ribbon and flowers decorating the damn thing, too. This was never a problem before the current city rules around garbage and recycling. Prices go up and service goes down. Awful.

I'm so tired of dealing with this companies excuses for why they didn't or can't pick up the recycling as they normally do any other time of year, during the winter. It's like their drivers are allergic to the snow! "The tires of the receptacle were covered by snow. Please be sure to have a clear space with 2ft on either side of the receptacle" was the response this time. Seriously? On top of shoveling my driveway and sidewalks? If the trash company can pick up the trash regularly no problem in the same spot, 2ft away from the Eureka bin then I don't understand why you can't! P.S. Heaven forbid I try to put out anything extra the next week without specific written permission from the mothership!

I had excellent service until pick-up day was rescheduled to Friday. If I placed my bin at the street, it was missed. If I switched to placing it at the alley, it was missed. Finally, we reached some sort of compromise and my recycling was pretty much regularly picked up when I placed it at the alley. For the past month it has been missed twice, despite being put out the night before collection. This time my bin was full, so now I have had to place lots of extra stuff on the ground, next to the bin. We will see if they bother to get out of the truck to pick up the extra stuff that would have fit in the bin if they had emptied it last week.

I have never had any issues with my recycling picked up in St. Paul. There were a few weeks they couldn't get to my bin because of feet of snow. I don't blame them and I had room in my cart so I could wait. I appreciate that they focus on reducing waste not just recycling. I also like how they support their workers - pay them well and let them be in a union.

Over a month ago, I asked Eureka to switch me from a large container to small. Even though I recycle everything, a small container is great for a one-person household. They dropped of the small but didn’t pick up the large container. Since February (it’s now April) I’ve called nearly every week, and they promise to pick up, but it is still here. I don’t have an alley so the large container sits in front of my house like a big sore thumb. In the meantime, Aspen Waste also switched out containers while picking up the trash—boom!—it was done. I work for government so I hate it when private industry outstrips us so seriously in efficiencies and customer service. St. Paul needs to hold their contractor more accountable—these shenanigans makes government look bad.

I live in St Paul and have had a seamless experience with Eureka doing our pick ups. I prefer the recycling can vs the old way of towing the stuff in paper bags and the smaller bins to the curb. Creates a much neater space at home for sure. I also manage many buildings in St Paul and think Eureka has been very responsive in there efforts to get the new system up and running over the last year. The amount of recycling that gets done in a city like St Paul is a huge task that most take for granted. Keep up the good work!

No Stars, what a complete incompetent company hired by St. Paul. Did not pickup my recycling one week and then was overflowing the next. Then had the audacity to tell me that the bin would not be picked up because it was overflowing and lid was up. No kidding, you did not pick it up and drove right by the week before. Now St. Paul wants to hire out all trash removal? So we can have the same incompetence for trash? What a mistake. Eureka, your customer support person Lisa knows all the reasons why they do not pickup, but can not support a why they drive right by and do nothing. I watched as our neighbors bin was dragged to the truck with an open lid from almost 2 house away. Yet my recycling was left on the curb. For years we had the bins the way they have been now they want them perfectly arranged 2 feet apart. Seriously? We have 20 inches of snow to manuever around. Fire this company, they stink.
Mar 06, 2018 -
Why I don't support city-wide contracts. They have no incentive to provide proper customer service, because we are required to stay customers. Thanks City of St. Paul. Lisa spent more time trying to blame me for my recycling not picked up 2 weeks in a row than trying to rectify the issue. 1 week was my fault, because clearly I never read the "manual" that I never received which explicitly states that carts must be placed 2 feet apart. We didn't get to hash out whose fault it was for the week before, because she hung up on me.

When we lived on Margaret Street, our recycling service was excellent. Never missed a day, even if they worked really late. Now we live on Minnehaha Ave E. We leave our recycling conveniently located next to the alley at all times, and it hasn't been picked up for weeks. It is overflowing. There have been times that our him and our neighbors have only been partially emptied. I watched once, and it's because they didn't do a complete dump. They quickly lifted it with the arm and you could tell there was more in the can before they even set it down. I hope that something will be done about this. I have read several comments by dissatisfied customers. Is the city wanting us to start throwing our recycling in our Trash? Those companies at least are consistent!

Eureka's commitment to a waste free Saint Paul is inspiring. We have had nothing but positive experiences with them. Even the transition to larger carts has gone smoothly - they haven't missed a single pickup from our house. Also, love the larger carts, we barely use our trash bin since we reuse as much as possible and try to only buy recyclable products. Super glad we have Eureka!
