Christmas by Candlelight was fabulous! Great music, tree lighting, hot cocoa and cider, mulling, printing, smithing and pottery demonstrations, and a great magician. Worth braving the cooler temps!
Glad we paid $34 online as it was $45 at the door. It was nice but alot of the buildings were closed. Wish I knew it was $11 on Dec. 11! I'd give it 3.5 as the atmosphere was nice but the gift shop was a money grab. Did get some nice ornaments but $6 for a Chapstick was a bit much. I haven't been in 40 years. I hope the carriage horses get a break but the line was always long so be aware. Had a great lunch at the Ox & Yoke. DRESS WARM for Christmas by Candlelight!
The park itself is very nice, I went there years ago. Was going to get tickets for Christmas, but their website is trying to get you to disable all your personal security for access. Cookies need to be enabled, VPN must be off or the captcha won't work, so it's all about getting your information. Not using it.
Such a neat way to learn some history. Friendly and very knowledgeable people there. Helpful. Clean!!!
I just wouldn’t eat there again. Not special in anyway and pricey for what it was.
The restaurant offers a charming ambiance within a traditional setting. While parking is located at the rear, the buffet presents a satisfactory selection, though some items appear to be pre-prepared. Accessibility within the buffet area may pose challenges for individuals with mobility limitations, despite the restaurant's apparent compliance with ADA standards for entry.
Went with my daughter and her family. My wife Madeleine, along with Meghan, Will and foster child Amen had a wonderful fall evening on Halloween. Watching the awestruck children ages 5 to 75 was a joy to behold. Acrobats, magical storytellers and great fun. Sign me up for next year’s fun!
We absolutely loved the Christmas by Candle Light at Sturbridge Village. We had a great experience strolling from house to house learning about the beginning of Christmas celebrations in the US as well as different occupations seen during the 1800’s. The tree lighting ceremony, candle making, Learning a common dance, storytelling, demonstrations, and a magician made this evening special.
Stourbridge Village is an immersive exhibition that recreates life in a 19th-century colonial setting. I visited during the summer months and had the opportunity to experience cannon fire and a small marching fife and drum parade. They also make gingerbread throughout the year, so if you’re a gingerbread fan like I am, you'll definitely enjoy it here.
The grounds are true to the century and feature dirt roads and paths along with mown fields, offering a transformation back to a simpler time. I love how the reenactors remain dedicated to their characters; there is nothing modern in the village. You'll see caretakers tending to sheep in the traditional manner, as well as candle making, sewing, and other historical tasks.
It's a great place for kids to learn about life before computers. Additionally, there’s a small modern museum with bathroom facilities in the parking lot. The area has plenty of parking and is easily navigable with wheelchairs or other walking devices.
A delightful way to spend time outside and learn about our history. The actors were engaging and informative. It’s an activity grandparents and grandkids can equally enjoy. Give yourself plenty of time and plan on making a second—or third—visit.
