- I did a 5.3 mile out and back trail, the New England Trail, that traverses the cliff side of Mount Tom
- The park charges a fee per vehicle to enter ($5 MA resident, $20 nonresident) but there is additional parking along the main road outside of the park
- lots of orange lizards along the trail
There are a lot of trails around this area and up to the summit of Mt. Tom. Mt. Tom Reserve has many trails/peaks you can hike to, but don’t park at the reserve if you’re trying to reach the summit.
It’s a great view at the top and you can see all the way to Hartford. The shale can make the trail a little tricky, so maybe not great for kids.
There is a ton of graffiti which is sad, but it’s cool to explore nonetheless.
Definitely a 5 star place to hike. Definitely in moderate hike with some up-and-down sleep parts. Lot of rocks scrambles in certain areas but my dog was able to make it. I didn't entirely from the alltrails app and definitely recommend it I also got to see the old abandoned ski slope there is a few different viewpoints from up top of the mountain. Also you will see the memorial of the B-17 plane crash which I thought was pretty cool. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you have not already it will be one of your favorite hikes. It is definitely a work out.
Great place to go for a hike. I wouldn’t recommend bringing children to certain areas due to the possibility of them falling. But great to get a workout and see the scenic nature.
It was so beautiful and clean air and nice people . The top view was so beautiful. It took me 3 hours to walk up the mountain I was 295 pounds . But this mountain.I will always visit for hiking and more. I love the people that was walking up they are so polite. But I couldn't believe how the elderly people walked up pass me and a old man riding a big bicycle up the mountain.

Definitely a great hike. There are a few trails where you can just walk straight up the mountain. One is a very steep but paved path which is great if you need to avoid rough terrain. I prefer something a little longer and more scenic so you have the ability to hike to lower peaks and then traverse the ridge up to the summit of Mt Tom. Definitely suggest that (the trails are all on the downloadable trail map). The down side is not everything is terribly well marked and you need to do a bit of navigating by matching terrain features to the map which isn't particularly easy till you are nearer the top. Regardless it is worth the effort because the views of the pioneer valley are pretty stunning from the top.
The jewel of the valley! This place Is the absolute best part of Holyoke. Hiking the range is always fun, can be challenging or leisurely depending on the trail you choose. The trails are maintained nicely and there is tons of natural wonders to observe. You can run into some really interesting people there, especially those hiking the Appalachian Trail.
If just keep your eyes and ears open, you will have the chance to see owls, bald eagles, hawks, bears, bob cats, rattle snakes and more! The views from the lookout points are some of the best around, especially for capturing the valley below.
Lovely place to take the dog for a hike! Ice-skating in the winter. It’s even nice just to cut through and take a ride up the mountain, from Route five up to the top of E. Hampton Rd. Mt. Tom has lots to do lots to see. Love to this place my whole life. You should visit if you haven’t!
Amazing location to share with my family, we've been here several times for hiking and photoshoots. There's some awesome abandoned buildings on the grounds that make for some really creepy photos or videos. We have yet to climb the path to the top of the mountain, last attempt my wife was pregnant and pushed 80 percent of the way up so she's pretty determined now haha.
Wide open trail from mount tom parking area , I remember coming here as a kid for the water park and alpine slide nature took over this place lots of birds and other wildlife to enjoy pass by the old quarry and keep going awesome views all 360 degrees
Great place for a hike. There's a lot of trails here and it's easy to get turned around or go on the wrong trail. Some areas are super steep which is what I look for. Place has great views and it's not super busy. Tons of parking areas. Can't wait to come back. My only complaint are the hours. It's kind of lame that it closes at four. Not everyone likes to early morning hike.
Great hiking. Love the trails and views. Plenty of options for different skill levels. Just be mindful of hours. They will lock you in if you park up top.
