Honest, straight forward and down to earth. I highly recommend Discount Transmission and they saved me about $1500 on my PT cruiser and a $3000 transmission rebuild on my Ford Taurus. Management, their mechanics and this business is by far the best in Lake Station and do more than just transmissions. In fact, they've repaired two of my cars including a starter, transmission line, battery all including free diagnostics.

Unprofessional owner. When denied the quote he persisted to talk down on the phone until I had to check him. When I called back and asked for the owner he willingly gave himself away then persisted to try and call me off his personal phone when I had my question answered! Also very professional! Blames the stress of the holidays as if that isn't something everyone deals with. Very good customer service "Larry" ! My old man referred me but now I'll have to take my hard earned cash elsewhere and put it in another kind mechanic's pocket that doesn't think his $#!+ don't stink!!! P.S he'll call you from his personal phone when he's angry ! Avoid at all costs. I'd rather use any other shop now because you definitely ruined your 50 + year rep!
I am so pleased with Discount Transmission in Lake Station. They kept exactly to their quote but what pleased me and SHOCKED me even more is that there were two parts that my male friend thought I would need and Discount Transmission wouldn't know until they actually took a look (but that would be over the quote in parts and labor). Well ends up I didn't need either of these parts--now I do believe most places would have taken advantage of me as a woman (I mean in truth, I wouldn't have known) I was told by a trusted friend that he thought I needed them after all--nope!1 I did not and the fact that I know they were honest with me and didn't take advantage of me. I recommend so highly. If I know anyone in need this is where I will be recommending they take their vehicle. Thank you. Money mattered and thank you for your honesty!!!
"shop guy" i spoke with was full of excuses and changed pricing at the blink of an eye at his disclosure. say no more I'll take my business elsewhere. if im PAYING 5-6k i EXPECT things done to my liking with parts i request.
I had a seal replaced and when I went to the dealer for a different issue, the seal that was supposedly fixed was leaking. I will not use this repair shop again.
We didn't get any work done on our vehicle due to the type of issue it had; however, they provided genuine customer service and we completely appreciate their honesty.
Dropped off my wrangler that had no transmission functions at all had to be towed their on a Thursday afternoon for transmission rebuild. They called me Saturday at noon and said it was done. Fair pricing for good work.
This company charged a reasonable price for a transmission HOWEVER, the vehicle was driven while transmission was slipping. When the vehicle was returned their was “break issues”. SUDDENLY the break peddle goes ALL the way to the floor?

I had my transmission rebuilt about 6 months ago they were great with me ,I just had a problem with the transmission yesterday ,I called first thing this morning and they were very quick to respond .they were at the house to get it within an hour. Fortunately it happened on a week off of work. Never fun to have a transmission problem,but it worked out by the grace of God. All I really want to say is its great service and thanks to the owner and his team.
Discount Transmission performs good, quality work. I had a vehicle towed in that was very distressed. Not only did the mechanics replace my transmission they also repaired my locked up brakes, brake lines, radiator..... Fair, honest and up front. Owner went out of his way to get my vehicle up and running. Once a vehicle I questioned if It would run again is now a vehicle I can drive across the country without worry. I have had this company work on several vehichles, repair transmissions, transfer cases, etc. Very good at getting you in the shop, and getting all repairs done, very good service, and repairs, of all different things, on my vehichles.

I have lived in Lake Station for over 40 years, Larry has been here I believe nearly that long and he has worked on numerous cars of ours, and I believe he is fair priced, and quick to do your repairs, I don't think you'll be disappointed bringing your cars here, and he does more than just transmission work!
After having a bad experience at a different transmission shop these guys gave me the honest and hard work I was looking for. Diagnosed the problem and didn't try to cheat me out of money by saying things were wrong that really weren't. They even stayed open an extra 15 minutes past close so I can pick up my car. Overall excellent service and would recommend to a friend.
