I found that Cappel's was a very stressful free experience since I am new at arranging these things. Friendly and did my work while I waited in their nice waiting room. Fair price and no up sell. I will use them again.
If you want a shop that takes 3 or 4 attempts to fix your vehicle this is the shop for you! After showing up at 8am on Monday December 22,2025, after car being evaluated by Johnny on the Friday prior the 19th and finding out there was no appointment scheduled for me and the afore mentioned Johnny calling off that day. They did however take my vehicle and arranged for a loaner from them, left my car and expressed to them to, as I have the loaner"take whatever time you need" with my car. Jim Cappel thanked me for "working with them" as they were unaware of my car coming in that day. Jim Cappel also said he "wanted a 5 star review" from me once car had been worked on. The job was to take 7 hours, though no follow up from Melissa the office manager. It was I calling to see how and what was going on with my car. I called Melissa at 2pm on Tuesday the 23rd and she said they were still checking fluids and she would call around 4pm. 4pm came and went when I received a call from Johnny asking if I was going to pick my car. Told him I spoke to Melissa at 2pm and she said she would call around 4pm. Mind you Johnny called at 4:55pm and they close at 5pm. Only 2 blocks away, got their loaner back to them and paid my portion of the $1600.00 plus bill. Next day on Christmas Eve went to Rockford, Il, about 25 miles from Rochelle, Il.
Needless to say almost to my destination I see steam blowing out my exhaust and dash lights telling me to pull over and idle engine! Pulled into Meijer parking lot, called Johnny at about 10am and his response response was very nonchalant "stuff happens"! Okay, great attitude for it being Christmas Eve and me now stranded until a tow came to get me, as Cappel's also closed at noon. For the life of me I can NOT understand why they ever released car to me without doing a pressure test on coolant system, as that was the reason for it being there in the first place. No coolant in reservoir and when I got to Cappel's, got another loaner. Closed Christmas day and didn't get my car back till 27th. When I received my car back and was told Jim Cappel himself was addressing the issues and was told a hose clamp was loose or missing(again why wasn't it pressure tested)? When I was told by Jim Cappel, owner, he put a note in the computer that "I was hard to please"! I gave you over $1600.00 to fix my car and you and you staff screwed it up HORRIBLY!! Also when got my car back the reservoir was only maybe a third full! Took it back again after a 'courtesy" call and NOT until January 2nd was the reservoir actually at full line, as ask Jim Cappel to follow me to car so I could document it. It was at this time I said to Jim Cappel he had a lot of nerve putting a note in computer I wasn't able to be pleased. He then changed it to that I was demanding! I'm sorry what part of demanding was I that this started on December 22,2025 and didn't end till January 2,2026, when FINALLY there were no leaks and coolant draining out of the reservoir!!! Will NEVER visit this shop again As I worked for my ex-husband in his car repair shop and know a lot of things about cars and issues, where we NEVER treated our customers liked I was treated here.
In closing if you are new to the Rochelle, Il area I would like you to consider Mason Smith Auto Repair shop in Flagg Rd in Rochelle. The owner Mason is a not quite 30 years old and is old school learned and treats his customers like he wants to be treated and has more business savvy in his pinky finger than Jim Cappel has in his whole being. He listens, brings you out to shop to show what he's found and will explain if you are not quite sure what's going on. I had other issues done by Mason and his shop that Cappel was going to charge triple for! I also had the pleasure to meet his Son, Grandparents and Wife which showed me even more how he treats his customers!
Wish I could give this place a half star or less as it was one of the most disrespectful times of my life! I have pictures and videos, just didn't know how to attach. I am almost 70 and this is so disrespectful to an elder.
I always get great service when I come to Cappel's Complete Car Care. They can get you seen quickly and try to accommodate your schedule. The technicians are very honest and don't overcharge you. I get their flyer in the mail and take advantage of special offers. I highly recommend Cappel's.
I got a nail in my tire while doing last minute christmas shopping. I was able to get in for a tire replace within a few hours of calling. I appreciated not having to wait days to have a drivable vehicle again! The staff was kind and accommodating
Took my cars here just for oil changes for the convenience. Until I came across an issue needing a new driveshaft assembly. Quoted me over 5k for a driveshaft assembly, steering rack and pinion and an alignment. Took my car to a different place here in town and quoted me more than half of what cappels did to fix all those issues listed above and did a great job. Not to mention whenever I did take my cars here for oil changes. I had to be the one to reach out and ask if it was ready most of the time. Otherwise they would call 20 mins before their closing time posted saying it’s ready to pick up. Poor communication and overpriced
Yet again they never cease to impress me I thought for sure my front end was smoked it turns out just need an alignment little camber and toe and boom I'm out of there guys took care of me in no time flat God bless the team there
I only work in Rochelle, and my car was acting up this morning coming into work. They made room for me on their schedule and fixed my car while I was at work the same day. Had a flat tire while on a road trip and brought it in to be serviced. They didn't have the needed tire in stock (my car has irregular tire sizes) but were able to ship it over in just a few hours! The customer service was amazing, Johnny was especially kind and helpful!

We had a great experience with this team. Multitude of issues addressed, Melissa did a great job of communicating the cost of each repair. The tech team did a great job and fixed all our issues. Good people to work with, they will not do service without informing you the price first, which I really appreciate.
1st service:
Brought my work vehicle in for front and rear pads and rotor replacement. They worked around all of my scheduling needs. They are quick, efficient, fair and honest. Couldn’t ask for a better local shop.
2nd time being serviced:
Went there a second time for full tire replacement and needed it within 24 hours. I dropof my van, pick it up same evening with ZERO issues. They always help around my crazy schedule. They make it simple. Thank you.
I got my front set of tires replaced and will be back soon for the other set. Had a flat and they got me in and taken care of. They provided a printout with the different tire options so I could make the choice without pressuring sellups. Super friendly and hassle free and what more could you really ask for?
Unbelievable service, best I’ve had yet!! These guys got us back on the road in 2 days. The axle broke on our new enclosed trailer and it caused the brakes, wiring, and all the tires to get damaged. It wasn’t a problem for these guys! Very very happy
Great experience! I was traveling alone from out of town when my oil had leaked out of my car (after having an oil change the day before) I some how was blessed and the exit I got off on they were right there. Communication was excellent on my options, price was fair and they had me back on the road in no time! Thanks again guys! And also incase you were wondering I made it to the tournament in time and took first place!
Cappels was my 3rd opinion on vehicle issues. They put my car up on the rack and showed me what was causing the problem. I felt very confident in their findings and gave them permission to do the repairs. Their mechanics and staff were friendly and engaging. The waiting area is clean with snacks and great magazines. When I drove away, my car felt like a new vehicle! Wow! What a difference! Ill be back! Highly recommend!
Mr Cappel and his wife responded to my U-Haul problem. Shop is closed, they were off to dinner, but instead answered my call. I had a blown tire on a U-Haul car trailer which they fixed quickly and I was on my way. Thank you for great service, it was excellent!
After moving here, finding a reliable and fair mechanic was a must for my old car. Cappel’s has been so kind to me and always treats me with respect. They’re very transparent and also understanding of budgetary constraints. Highly recommended this great business!
Any time I bring one of our experience has always been very good. They give me ride home and repair my car. Everyone is pleasant and cordial. I have had no complaints.
Cappel came in clutch! I hit some debris on the road, and they were able to get me back on the road after one of my plastic shields popped off in just under an hour.

I was driving from Chicago to Iowa when my car’s AC suddenly stopped working-right in the middle of a long trip. Thankfully, I found Cappel's Complete Car Care and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Melissa and her team were absolutely fantastic. They pulled my car in right away, diagnosed the issue quickly, and had it fixed in no time. Their friendliness, efficiency, and professionalism truly saved the day. The service was top-notch and I felt like a valued customer from start to finish. If you need fast, reliable, and genuinely caring auto service, I highly recommend Cappel's-they really go above and beyond for their customers.
Everyone was super friendly and communicative. I have a 2 year old so when they offered to drop us off at home while they worked on my car was super helpful. They even informed me that they could drop the car off in the future if needed. They care about the quality of their work and I was more than happy to support this local family business😊
After experiencing car problems on the Interstate a long way from our house and an even longer way from our final destination can be TERRIFYING! We luckily found comfort in the care of Cappel’s Complete Car Care! They treated us like their ONLY customer, they were able to very quickly start troubleshooting our problems, fixing our vehicle and getting us back on the road within an hour and 40 minutes. They also helped us brainstorm solutions if our vehicle was not fixable in a reasonable amount of time, suggesting nearby hotels and even offering to drive us 20 miles away to get a rental car if needed. During our very scary time, Melissa helped comfort us, joke with us, and make us feel safe. Her staff in the shop were top notch; we had 3 service technicians working diligently on our vehicle to ensure we could get back on the road as quickly as possibly and they also took it for 2 test drives to make sure we would make it to our final destination safely! My wife and daughter were on the way to a volleyball tournament and had car troubles. They limped the vehicle over to Cappel’s Complete Car Care and they were amazing! The got them in right away without an appointment and had it fixed at a reasonable price. Back on the road in less than two hours. Great workers and accommodating! Thank You!!!
The team at Cappel’s provided great service and got us back on the road in record time. Our motorhome lost a wheel bearing damaging the hub and spindle. Owner Jim and lead mechanic Al were able to locate the hard to find parts and complete a complex job to get us up and running again. Thank you Cappel’s for your kindness and professionalism. 5 stars all around!!
Paid $250 for two used tires. Found them to be ten years old after mounting. The mechanic took off a better tire to mount one of them. Left my spare dangling, dragging on the asphalt. Thankfully another driver got my attention a few miles down the road.
My car broke down in Rochelle, IL and I left it over overnight at Cappel's Complete Car Care. They were able to address my car the next morning. Al was excellent at communicating with me as the repairs were being done. The price was reasonable and the work was exceptional. Jim, the owner was also great to talk to and really stands behind his business moto "count on us for fair, friendly Service." Would recommend for anyone living local or happened to have a tire pop out of it's socket, like mine did going down the road - See pictures for details.
