I see from other reviews what kind of operation they are and my experience was similar. They first did a police tow after an accident, then subcontracted a tow for Hot Rides Auto Body to the latter's shop, without providing an estimate beforehand - contrary to Illinois regulations. All with outrageous prices. Guess it's easy to overcharge when you give people the price after the fact, holding their cars hostage.
If there was an option to give no stars that's what Douglas Towing would have gotten. The dispatcher was very short and rude. He gave me a general rate of $300 from Northbrook to Chicago and advised me to call back if I needed service and disconnected the call. Needless to say I was not able to tell him that I indeed needed service and due to his lack of customer services skills, I was not going to call back. Do better!
Got into my car after shopping & it wouldn't crank/turn over- hadn't noticed a problem before this- Contacted my motor club- they called Douglass Automotive & Douglass called me- the flat bed driver was wonderful- polite, kind, efficient- he gave my car a jump, told me not to shut it off until I'm at my repair shop & that what I needed was a new battery. What could have been a terrible experience, turned out to be quite pleasant.
Had my Volkswagen Touareg towed because it was stuck in PARK. I specifically requested the vehicle be put on dollies because the vehicle could not be put in neutral. The tow driver ripped open the console in order to try and release the gear shift (I had already tried that), and when he couldn't shift from PARK, he hooked the vehicle up to his winch and pulled it across the parking lot sideways, and then up onto his flatbed, all while in PARK. My repair shop recommended these guys but I wouldn't use them in the future.
