I have been looking far and wide for the great mechanic that I like, finally it happened at Mike Pettits Auto Clinic in Port Charlotte.
Mike has fixed my van, that it brakes and few other things that needed attention. Now I like to keep him as my primary source for my auto maintenance and repairs, as Mike is skilled, reasonable, knowledgeable and very honest, great master mechanic.
My low tire sensor came on, I went to an auto shop because it was closer but they wanted me to buy a new tire. I called Mike and he had me bring it in right away . He goes out of his way to help and is patient ! He found this in my tire and patched it nicely for me. Thank you guys for caring and being honest ! Definitely recommend .
I travel to FL for work and the past two times my rental car has had a flat. Mike across the street from my office has been amazing to get my car in and repair the tires for me. Pricing is reasonable and customer service is great! Thank you Mike. I will see you on my next trip I'm sure with these damn rental cars. Lol
Mike is an amazing mechanic who tells me the details of what is wrong with my car other than just telling me minor things. I definitely would recommend him
Mike is a great and respectful guy who will always do his work correctly and get the job done well. I take all 3 of my vehicles there, and every time he was able to fix the issue. He is resourceful and knowledgeable
Heard about Mike thru a co-worker, who claimed he was very caring, thorough, professional, explained everything & included you in everything he did and was very fair with his pricing...she was 100% correct and then some! It's refreshing to find someone who takes pride in his profession and really cares about his customers...thanks so much, Mike, and God bless you!
Overall great experience! Mike thoroughly diagnosed my issues, broke it down to me in simple to understand terms, he worked quickly, and gave me a great deal all while being personable and respectful.
I’m so happy that I found a mechanic that I can trust. He was thorough, honest, and the cost was reasonable. He was able to get the work done sooner than expected. I definitely will be sending all my friends and family to here.
****1/8/2021 - UPDATE**** - Mike states he is tearing apart the motor, tomorrow.
I am disappointed that I have to leave this review, but I feel people should know and maybe this will prompt a response out of Mike. Our next step will be to get an attorney. Here is our experience and timeline:
April 2020 - my partner brought vehicle in for preventative maintenance- Mike offered to replace belts because they looked like they needed it. Doing so he then informed me he had to take the motor apart and adjust the timing. As soon as We got it back it was making a clicking noise.
May 2020 - he stated it wasn’t a big deal, that it was VVT sensor or dirty oil and the dirty oil would clean itself out.
August 2020 - the vehicle broke down, She replaced the VVT sensor, no luck and we had it towed to the shop.
Sept 2020 - finally reached out with an update - it appears the valves are bent and hitting the piston. Offered to pay for labor because this was a result of valve timing issue.
October 2/13/14/19 we reach out - no response
December 8 - still no response, no updates, we’ve seen him outside of the shop, nothing spoken about on the car. He’s even said hello.
We are now having to sell the car for $325.00 because it is un drivable and has been sitting for 5 months with no repairs done to it.
We are currently at his shop and I’m watching my partner argue with him about why her vehicle is still sitting in the same place and nothing has been done to it nor has he responded to any of our attempts to reach out.
He states he can’t find a motor and we will have results in 30 days.

Mike Pettit's Auto Clinic is the best, had a tire disintegrate on my minivan, within an hour had a new tire on... Great Work, Great Prices, Mikes The Best !
Mike is so friendly. It is refreshing as a woman to have a mechanic that explains to me in simple, easy to understand way what the problem is with my vehicle, and how he plans to correct it. He is sure to say if he thinks it is a simple problem, or if he will try something first, then his next action. Keeping me informed on his sleuthing to unveil the mechanical issue. His pricing is fair and honest, and he is VERY dependable.
He has been in business for many years, and has had some of the same clientele since day one, to me that says a about his service.
I am so thankful we found him, and only wish we had known about his business sooner.
Helps our 240k miles car keep goin ! Mike n Mark are good reasons to live in this area! They honestly replaced the broke down (only apprx 3yrs old) parts other places constantly ripped us off of and w regularly changed oil have given us Mile$ back n Peace! Getting Mike's suggested timing belt change is the Best Help, both cars 10+ yo smooth running no constant trouble. Had Elsewhere a badly done transmission when one car was 120k, that's when Pettit's was referred by practical friend that we got good back from same transmission bc of tweaks Pettit's hv it sill goin now over 240k![updated mileage on this review/will keep car as spare if can/not junking!];) These are car surgeons but practical humans that still though obviously busy, somehow 2man garage calls YOU back later!/ if you Say clearly your number on their shop Voicemail. Do schedule easily,suggest patiently calling back as they get full voicemail [busy anywhere anyhow] Pettit's is definitely worthwhile second time calling if need! Would if needed even towings to have Mike's work, even tow yours home then call Mike so has room jic..(NOTE AAA worthwhile: instead of insurance co's road service even one tow is a claim against your policy but not several tows w AAA!). Pettit's is in Industrial units on Paulson Dr, each have one driveway in, good room, Pettit's has nice Shaded entry driveway its Directly across from Woodbury St which runs to behind/side of Michaels (Best Buy, BBBeyond) ,Paulson is a parallel back street of Port Charlotte's general shopping area being so close to Veterans and (PCTC mall)area of US41 makes Pettit's another great choice as can walk over to Best Buy etc shops if was deemable. Mike Answers phone just during biz hrs like anybody else and Professional. Two good car guy's garage business at least several yrs great reputation for Very Good work and practical pricing! Must say in all the decades of owning vehicles /40+/-yrs, Mike Pettit's is the first time have had an intelligent mechanic as well as down to earth who would not put on extra parts and did give truly good suggestions THAT DID make vehicle BETTER! Its amazing to have an older car run better than ever, but ours do, and we bought them used and abused even. ALL mechanics are at mercy of how parts are made not withstanding hellish climate, not all try to get decent parts these guys try, we know Mike and Mark are conscientious and reliability really is their goal. As much as people depend on cars isn't it good to know your mechanic? This is a humble yet serious looking repair garage and we finally feel relief about keeping our vehicles going and giving our hard earned bucks to the fair priced hard earned too Pettit Auto Clinic! We have also had new preliminary purchases looked over by Mike and TRULY knew what to do and Got deal during dealer negotiating! We have gambled many times on the heat of Florida and car part plastics, it is relief too to know that Mike and Mark have done and if what is possible, surprises us how many times they resurrect our work cars some way but do!! Give them a fair try, the price is decent a hedge under almost always/feels good price for good work, even oil changes are a blessing, not cheapy but Quality thoughtful and a nice kind of visit/ you know where you stand better most times. They deserve more glamour, but they have it very much together there right at their competent handgrips! If any ONE thing chanced awry after one part put on, that's soo rare over years now of successes and why blame them for what wasn't yet! that we go back and still nothing excessive ever comes out of issues ever unreasonably! Newsflash: Winter prep even in Florida is a good rule to listen to, really do appreciate Mike and Mark not pushy just informative when you can afford the waiting and more than anybody ever had to us the vehicles become easier to understand and you get more realistic about taking care of yours thanks to Mike and Mark being practical.
