Don't believe the buyer Kevin Drumm. Called him prior to going to explain what I had. My boat had small pieces of iron attached to the aluminum and he said because it was small it would be fine and I would get a good price. Get to the yard and unload and go to get paid and they pay me for Irony aluminum. Called Kevin back and told him thats why I called in the first place to make sure it would be OK and he replied with "Oh, I thought you said those pieces were aluminum". THATS REAL CONVENIENT TO SAY NOW THAT YOU HAVE THE BOAT. So instead of being paid .65 cents per pound i received. 30 cents. I would have cut the iron off and brought it separately. Hopefully this place is BBB accredited because that's my next stop. This was THEFT and cost me close to $200.
Great little place. I had never scrapped anything but had some aluminum and copper and got $16. Staff were friendly. My only suggestion is more signage for people as they enter to know what to do as it can be intimidating as the front of building has 2 doors both locked so unless you just know what to do it can take a minute. A read this first sign would be nice or a sign with arrows on where to drive. For those who've never been: drive up the small ramp on right side to speak to the white booth attendant who will direct you to your place in line. After getting stuff weighed and put in bins guys will give a paper to bring to the teller window but will ask you to park up front first...after teller processes your slip she will hand it back and you scan the barcode at the ATM. Money received all done. It was neat for my son to see how recycling works. Will go again.
Staff was helpful. Asked if it was ur 1st time and gave good directions. Plenty of room to pull over and unstrap or fill out forms. Pre weigh and post weigh, then park, go to cashier booth and receive payment. Very simple and organized. Detailed receipt. Great Place!
My daughter saved up aluminum soda cans for some spending money. Got about 10 bucks per trash bag full decent price. She's $60 richer and has learned work pays off.
The lady at weigh station was super helpful. The cashier lady was nice. It was difficult figuring out how to scrap the aluminum I had and difficult parking. But a good experience. I got like $26 for my old aluminum gutters.
Uncommonly professional for that type of work. Rough looking guys are polite and professional. They are constantly upping their systems and layout. Go get some money!
Nice staff, business helps keep the landfills from being filled with materials that can be recycled and they pay you for your materials you don't need.
First time scrapper, everyone I interacted with was very helpful. Stuff I brought in wasn't as sorted as it probably should have been and the staff there helped sort it to help me get the best price for what I brought in. Would highly recommend!
Horrible customer service call the phone number kept getting off by their machine when I finally did reach someone the guy that answered said oh I could have left a message and he would have called me back fix your machine so that doesn't happen
They are very helpful and provide good services for those new to the hobby of collecting and selling metal. I find the staff welcoming and informative. This facility is wonderful.
I live close by so Sims is convenient and I have to say I'm really impressed with the way that they run the yard the way they keep the place clean I've never had to wait more than 5 or 10 minutes and they're very competitive with the pricing so I must say they definitely get five stars
Be careful! If your not familiar with scrap the tall guy who inspected it will try to intimidate and rip you off. Terrible experience both times I went. The Lady that works the counter is “Very Rude” both of the times I went. I definitely won’t be returning.
Anytime we call Sims to check their prices they NEVER answer, instead it will always go to a voicemail of someone who is not even at the local Yorktown office. I can call Public Scrap and Old Dominion in Hampton and ALWAYS have a friendly voice of someone at that specific location answer the phone with prices. If you like to know in advance where to take your scrap depending on prices don't waste your time at Sims you will won't know and show up blinded.
Great place to dump your junk metal and outside staff seemed pleasant. The lady in the cashier window though... very rude. And you cannot hear her through the window at all with all the noise outside.
Had a bunch of scrap that we were going to throwaway. They were so helpful in showing how we could get paid more for our scrap by separating key parts. Staff very frendily. Would recommend to anyone.
i will not be returning to this establishment. the last encount i had with them the employees were very rud to me and some were even being a** holes to me. so i desided i would only go there if i had to well today they really closed the door on me coming back or even sugesting others to go there. now i know it was sleeting. and i called up there and several other places and they were the only ones open. when i called the guy seid yes were open. but as soon as i pulled in and employee closed the gate and bluntly seid were closed. and what aggravates me is that the guy on the phone could have seid yes were open but we might be closing soon due to the weather and then i wouldnt have wasted my time and gas to go up there. so i will not return to this place. i will stick to going to Carrollton Metals were the employees are nicer and they even help people unload there stuff if there not terribly buisy
This is not a junkyard. The lady you spoke with on the phone happens to be very nice and has a lot on her plate. No, I don't work there. It's a metal recycling plant, not a junkyard. Although you called in error, she tried to refer you to someone who could help. Yet, you still complain.
