What clients say about Ozanam Center in Brownsville (TX)
A month ago I went to offer 2 beds and a living room set in excellent condition. I had a hard time entering, a lady with sandy short hair took my name and phone, NEVER called me back, I told her the place where they would pick up the furniture was closed by, but that my car was too small for 2 beds and a living room set. She does not say thank you, she talks to you like she is doing a favor to you not you to her. If you are in a position where you attend the public you should be nice, educated and at least return the call to say you will not take the furniture. If the city of Brownsville sustains the place, MY TAXES are paying her salary. She should be fired. It was passed 9:30 am and the director had not come in. My question and concern to city, a higher supervisor (maybe a city commissioner ) should do a surprise visit. The furniture has already been accommodated to a needy Brownsville family. That is what is happening . Based on a lot of opinions, a lot of people just walk away.
That secretary needs to be fired. The one who is in charge is extremely rude when others are trying to donate to the victims in the most recent fire that occurred at the apartment complex. I’m assuming it’s Ms. Garza. I recommend donating elsewhere.
I was here for 24days all was well. I was told I had 3 to 6;days remaining. I found myself in need so I returned. Upon entering I was told that I had a falling out with the boss Mr. Maldonado whom I've never met and that I am Banned. I was told that I tried to enter and was escorted out b the police. All of which is completely untrue. I wasn't even in the country. But for some reason all black people look alike to them. And I got banned because of what someone else did. This is a great place if you like bed bugs and shitty food. If you are into blatant racism then stay here.
My stay in February 2024, the water was shut off to control movement at night.sanitation violation,cruel& unusual punishment 8th amendment.
Mental,verbal abuse. disabled was denied oxygen machine use.and kicked out in rain ended in hospital.multiple civil rights complaints will be against.dragon lady.(Mirna).
Super poor management. Ms. Garza is the worst she should not be talking to patients or other staff members the way she does. Super super unprofessional. She has poor communication and does not try to figure out a solution to best help the individual who’s trying to get somewhere where they can get better, she give horrible attitude and has was on a power trip . I’m sure the facility is wonderful but that lady there super unprofessional!!!!!!! I’m furious cause she made the patient I was dropping off cry!!
Since I can remember, Once called Casa Romero, and now Ozanam Center. With all do respect I can only say, We the public need to be well educated on how we can be more involved in helping them.
Ms Garza is rude! I was told I would be helped and I came form Harlingen then I get to the shelter and she said no I can not stay go back to Harlingen! With 3 kids no money for the bus yea you can imagine how I reacted
It's a great place ... 3 meals a day and clothing store plus help when you do get a place.. only drawback is the bedbugs but they are constantly trying to get rid of them.. unfortunately with the revolving door for the houseless it's hard to totally get rid of them...
It was a good one people don't get it. You got to have rules no matter where you live. I helped in the in the kitchen I had a great time. Some people who stay here use their Medicaid. To go to day care and just sit there and do nothing. Some do go look for work. Some work a few day's and then go do drugs and drink. So don't blame them for your mistakes or punishment. Like ban you out. If people do what they are told they should at least stay 45 days.
People make up things lie about others the staff takes sides of the people who lie an mix up things its not right or fair I pray an wish people would not do that its very wrong its not Mexican way or the Latin way or Chicano way every one needs to listen not just to others who hate or mix up things an don't tell the truth I pray an wish the staff will stop that in justice an all ways listen to every one to me I like to stay their when every one is getting along an not lieing about me the devil is in charge of the air ways an people who lie an tell others things that are not true I hope pastors an the fathers of the churches can come visit more with the staff an people that things can be talked out not put in the streets over others who lie or even jail in Jesus holly name help them an me god
