Went to P&L to have some work done on my vintage jeep, they did a nice job on it, pete is a little unorthodoxed but they get the job done, right. I highly recommend them.
I took my car there to be inspected since I bought the vehicle from them. They called me and told me it would need over $1,000 worth of work. My husband questioned them about a couple of things that they informed us needed to be done since he just replaced some of those parts. The owner got very nasty and refused to work on our vehicle. We then took it for a second opinion. That shop called us back and told us that our vehicle only needed 2 simple things to pass inspection. Which in the end costed us $150 not over $1,000!!
Last year, I was referred to P and L and had my wife purchase a cheap cash car and we were genuinely grateful. Pete had done a fair amount of work to the vehicle already, and it fit our budget perfectly. I appreciated his help and she left the lot with a positive experience.
Fast forward a little over a year — we brought the same vehicle back for inspection. It needed a few items to pass: rear rotors and pads, a fog light, and an exhaust. Nothing out of the ordinary. I had already gotten a quote for a full steel cat back exhaust for $350 installed a week previously from red run exhaust in Reading, as I knew that was an issue. His wife, who was kind and professional, answered a few questions before transferring me to Pete for some technical details before I okd the $1000 of work.
That’s where everything went downhill.
I asked a simple question about whether the fog light was an inspectable item — something I genuinely didn’t know — and was immediately met with a condescending tone and sarcastic attitude. Sorry im not a mechanic Pete, that's why I'm asking you the questions... Still, I stayed respectful. Then I brought up a lingering concern we’ve had since purchasing the vehicle — that it feels floaty at highway speeds and had some uneven tire wear when I recently replaced the tires. Not an insult to him or the vehicle I was just trying to get his opinion as a mechanic.
Instead of engaging the conversation like a professional, Pete grew irritated with me while explaining the issue and the timeline of when the issue started, and ultimately told me to pick the vehicle up and have someone else do the work — then bring it back for inspection. Not once did I say I didn’t want them to do the work. I simply needed to decide whether to go with a different exhaust option I had been quoted on — everything else I was fully prepared to have him do. The suspension issue was a secondary issue on top of the inspection I had genuine concern about as my wife and kids are in this vehicle. I was willing to pay for him to diagnose this issue but not once did he ask if I'd like him to take a second look or diagnose that issue. He rudely ended the conversation by telling me again to come pick up the vehicle and have someone else do the work. Again I never refused or stated that I did not want them to complete the work needed for inspection.
Even though Pete was compeltely rude and unprofessional I told my wife to call them back and just ok the work. When my wife called back to authorize the repairs, we were told Pete was now refusing to work on the vehicle at all — because I “questioned” the suspension issue. Apparently he took it personally, as if I was attacking the car he sold us or the work he had done originally, which I never did. I was simply looking for insight on an existing concern and willing to pay for whatever needed fixing. Maybe try to upsell me at that point Pete??
I called back and asked to have Pete call me to clear up whatever it was he was in his feelings about ,and instead of calling me back to clear up what was clearly a miscommunication, he had his wife pass along the message. No follow-up. No discussion. Just flat-out refusal of service.
There was no reason for me to be treated with that kind of disrespect — especially as a returning customer who was more than willing to continue doing business. I never raised my voice, never accused, and never tried to get something for nothing. I asked honest questions and was shut down, dismissed, and ultimately denied service because Pete didn’t like being questioned.
That’s not professionalism. That’s pride getting in the way of doing right by your customers.
It’s a shame. We were once very grateful to have found this shop. Now we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Pete I genuinely wanted a professional opinion on a genuine concern. I will be sure to tell anyone looking for a mechanic to stay far from hot head Pete.
This place is great! Pete and Laura are amazing people and always help myself and my wife! They will never jerk you around on what needs to be done to your vehicles! Highly recommend!!!
I limped my car into P&L the other day not knowing anything about them. Pete came out, greeted me and took the bull by the horns from there. Put my car on the rack, showed me what was wrong, ordered the part and sent me on my way saving me a lot of money. Whole shop is knowledgeable, friendly and honest. Highly recommend. Thanks everyone!

Very honest place! I had my car up for inspection, they discovered that my axle was damaged, and instead of charging state inspection fee for both pass or fail, he let me go without charging. So that I can fix the issue and come back later. Other places not only overcharge, but find something so minor that no one pays attention to it and will fail you if you won't let them fix it. Will be coming here more often.
Have been to this shop a few times in the past and they have done good work. But this past time, the owner of the shop was unprofessional and rude for simply no reason.
After already giving us a VERY incorrect diagnosis(telling us head gasket when it was actually bad gas), they fixed the vehicle and after simply asking Peter one question about if they had replaced a specific part, he became very loud, rude and defensive instead of just answering my simple question.
I didnt think much of it until i come to find today that i am no longer welcome in their shop because i questioned something about the repairs.
My girlfriend and i have been loyal customers for a few years and now have a bad taste in our mouths about this shop.
Sad he had to be that way too because the receptionist is very nice and we did like coming to this shop.
Avoid this shop if you don't want the drama from the owner.
I really like coming to get my car service here. Laura is super sweet! It's a family 👪 business which I also like. So far decent prices. She always makes me feel so welcome.

Pete is a good man very honest and that isn't something you find now a days, oh and Laura is a sweetheart and her fur babies and grand babies are usually there. For me I could be biased it is like family my dad had been going to them long before I ever got my license and so I took my first car to them many moons ago and I have never once looked back. They have a new spot and it is definitely a good spot. You can do a bunch of things and get a bunch done when you are at the new location. They have some of the best conversations in there and stories. I would come here just to check in if it were something my schedule would allow. I can lay it on pretty thick but they need no such help. Honest hard working family owned and for the most part a few new faces here and there, It is a family affair indeed stop in you can't say you didn't feel the family vibe.
Very, very knowledgeable mechanic. When I picked up my car, he explained in detail what was wrong with my car. He even showed me the parts he replaced. His pricing is more then fair. I live in Bethlehem and I still drive my car to his shop. I know i will get quality work for a fair price.
