I bought my first Acme dolly in 2013, and was very happy with it. Over ten years and about 100K miles, I got about 20K miles out of each set of tires, and about 50K miles from the brake pads. Over the years, as the company made changes to the design, I retrofitted those things to my unit (metal ramps, notched safety chain attaching points). In 2022, a wheel seal started to leak, so I obtained kits from Acme and replaced the wheel bearings and seals. This was the first maintenance the bearing/hub assemblies had needed in 10 years, as advertised, and I was very happy with that. About a year after replacing the seals and bearings, a seal failed while on a trip. I think this failure was due to a seized brake caliper, which I hadn’t replaced, that overheated and damaged the seal. Due to time constraints, I elected to leave the dolly behind. My logic was that the cost of disrupting our trip would be more than the cost of replacing the dolly. So, in the summer of 2024 I purchased a new dolly from Acme. I was looking forward to the improvements that have been made over the years like being galvanized. Unfortunately, my experience with this new dolly has been a stark contrast to the original. First, at about 5K miles, I had to replace one tire, because it had worn unevenly, from the middle to the outer edge, down to the cord. Next, at about 8K miles, during my pre-departure walkaround, I found one of the brake calipers hanging off the dolly, held on only by the brake line, and the one on the other side was gone entirely. The mounting bolts had not come undone, but the two halves of the calipers had separated. Next, the bolt that holds the ramps mounted on the tongue snapped off. Remarkably, the ramps didn’t fall off damaging our car or hitting someone behind us. In my opinion, the bolt is too far forward, allowing the back end of the ramps to bounce, putting leverage on the bolt. My solution to this has been to weld two larger bolts (the same size as the old version of the dolly) to the tongue. Having two will eliminate the potential to bounce, and if one should break, there will be another to still keep the ramps attached. Next, and perhaps most concerning, was that when we arrived at our winter park, I found several cracks in the dolly. Two started at the notches where the safety chains attach, one was where the fender frame attaches to the rear corner of the dolly (with square bolt holes where the crack started), and one was the bracket between the rear and center beams of the dolly which was broken entirely. I have resolved these by welding the cracks and adding small gussets on both sides and the front piece. We’ll see how this holds up. For reference, the only car that has ever been on either of my dollies is a PT Cruiser weighing about 3200 pounds. As for Acme’s customer service, I have always found them slow to respond to voice mails or e-mails, although eventually they did. When I inquired if my brake caliper experience was something they had heard of before, I got a terse answer of “no” and reminded that I had not purchased an extended warrantee, so no break would be given on the cost of replacement calipers. (I didn’t purchase the extended warrantee because of my excellent experience with my first dolly.) I haven’t bothered even contacting them about the cracks because I expect I would get a similar response. I highly recommended the Acme dolly to many people, and I know of two who purchased one based on my input. However, I would no longer recommend them. I suspect that’s a moot point because they seem to be going out of business. They haven’t had dollies available for about a year now, and there is no indication on their website of any future plans.

Unfortunately here in New Jersey it's mandatory to get it registered. I've been asking and emailing them asking if I could just have their letter head, if they can email me with everything I need on that paper then I can get it registered other than that, the toll Dolly is fine. No problems with it at all. My only problem is I need it to be registered. But I can't get anyone to understand that and this is the trouble I am having. I tried myself but it has to be them and I don't know if they are aware that certain states do require this.

Especially for Canadian buyers: If you are importing the EZE Tow Dolly to Canada, be prepared for a lot of paperwork before the trailer is allowed on the road in Canada, depending of the province you are in. The tow dolly is required to have a license plate in British Columbia. Since it is imported from the US, it has to pass an RIV inspection which requires the trailer to comply with Canadian lighting rules. This means that there have to be some extra lights mounted. The statement of the seller that this trailer complies with Canadian rules is not correct. The tow dolly is wider then 2 meters, so extra lights are required in Canada to be road legal. Whether a car tow dolly needs a license plate depends on the province or territory you are in. Here’s a general breakdown: - Ontario: A tow dolly does not require a separate license plate if it is being used to tow a vehicle. However, it must be registered. - British Columbia: A tow dolly does require registration and a license plate. - Alberta: A tow dolly does not require a plate, but it must be registered if used on public roads. - Quebec: A tow dolly must be registered and display a plate. - Manitoba & Saskatchewan: Registration rules vary, but typically a plate is not required if used for personal use. After our trailer passed inspection, we were able to insure it and receive a license plate. We noticed also that the brake calipers where not installed correct. The bleed valves where pointing downwards, making bleeding the brakes impossible. I had to bring the trailer to a trailer company to have this problem solved. They had to reinstall the calipers before being able to bleed the brakes. Total costs for us: Tow Dolly $2500 = 3562 CAD Import broker costs and tax $520 = 740 CAD Adjustments to comply with Canadian lighting rules and reinstall brakes: 870 CAD Inspection costs 360 CAD Provincial TAX 12% : 240 CAD Yearly Insurance and license plate costs: 180 CAD Total costs: 5952 CAD People always say that tow dollies are way cheaper then flat towing your extra vehicle behind your motorhome. I'm not so sure about that anymore..

I’m glad I bought my tow dolly from Acme they have went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of from start to finish,, They we’re quick to take payment but after that I was left to deal with tire problems on my own,, After owning for 2 years and the first year it was in our covered barn as we were planning our trip. I’ve come to notice a lot of problems with the tires they use, We had a blowout with only 1500 miles on the tire and now in Florida I have a tire that has a bubble in the side this is on a brand new spare that has been stored in the motorhome ,, now to find tires while we are traveling, the 12” tire are good for a small car but not a town and county van like I was told it would handle it before I purchased the dolly.I went to a 14” tire and my problems are over

I bought my tow dolly over eight years ogo. It's lite weight, easy to maneuver, and easy to store. I have towed two different vehicles over 20,000 miles with this dolly and would recommend it to anyone needing to tow a vehicle. I would easily purchase it again, but it has held up so well that I don't need to. This dolly is very well made and deceptively tough for its design. Love it!!!

Update: Shortly after posting the review, I heard back the company and they are sending replacement parts. It turns out I had overtightened the winches and the car tires may move several inches when taking a turn before returning to their original position on the straights. Original Review: I am hopeful things will work out with the dolly, but I felt it's time to share my experience with other potential customers. I purchased the dolly in December. I took the dolly for the second time towing my Rav4 last week. As I tightened the winches with a 1 1/8" socket, the pin snapped on one winch (shown in image) and is about to snap on the other. The pin snapping prevents the winch from holding tension on the strap. So far called several times and sent 2 emails without any answer over a 5-day period. I'm still hoping cartowdolly provides replacement winches and I'll come back in to update the review with any new details. So far I'm regretting the decision to purchase this dolly...

I’ve owned this dolly for years. Traveled 20k miles pulling a Chevy Spark. I noticed that one of my straps was worn and had to be replaced. It was Sunday night at 7pm and we were leaving the next morning. I called the Tow Dolly number left a message and got an immediate text back telling me what I had to do to get a set shipped out the next day. I made the order on line talked to BeBe about overnight shipping and I will have my new straps by Tuesday before 2 o’clock. Thank you for another great customer service. We’ll be back on the road tomorrow!!! I highly recommend this company for the great personal service!!!!

I purchased my dolly in 2013. I have since put 90,000 miles on it. After 10 years, one of the wheel seals began to leak, so I took the opportunity to replace the bearings while installing new seals. Obtaining the hardware kit directly from CTD was quick and easy which was helpful since I had a deadline to be back on the road. One of the biggest pros of having this dolly was that when I had to replace our car, I could buy pretty much any FWD drive I wanted. I still can't understand why people think towing 4-down is so much better. Using this dolly requires no car modifications ($$$) and no short list of appropriate cars.

Kudos to Car Tow Dolly, Owner & Staff !! I purchased my used car tow dolly (2017 model, black, 12" wheels, hydraulic brakes), after much research. Deciding factors for me was the apparent build quality, lighter weight so can move it around by hand, ability to store upright, and a plus being the factory located in NC. Also the P.O. of our RV had a CTD when they first started out and said it worked well. Life gets in the way sometimes, and our departure was pushed back, so last year I decided to service everything while I had the time, and that's what brought me to reaching out to CTD. From the very first interaction I have been very impressed, starting with my initial phone conversation last year with Tim, then this year the prompt, professional, and helpful responses to every email sent to Richard, the online order system for parts, and most recently technical support and a visit to the facility in Kernersville where Patrick was very helpful, and fixed my screwup. To find a business that stands behind their product and makes it right is how it should be. We are looking forward to finally getting out there, and I will update this once we do. Thanks again. UPDATE Towed our toad with the RV first time this past weekend. Perfect 🙂

I have had nothing but problems, taken it on three trips in three years. There was nothing in the manual stating you should lock out the brakes on long downhills or mountain driving. If you engine break or use an exhaust brake the hydraulic brakes are constantly engage. I nearly destroyed the discs and over heated the axel bearing. Customer Service provided a replacement rotor and bearings. They said they would add a recommendation to lock the breaks out if engine breaking. Second trip I lost both tire's as the wear out quickly if you make a lot of sharpe turns, also make sure the ball high is correct. Third trip I suffered a catastrophic axel failure. I tow a Nissan Frontier Crew cab, 2wd. Curb weight is 4500 lbs, the stated capacity of the dolly is 5000 lbs. As you can see the pictures the welds failed, where the spindle welded to the dolly. Only about 7000 miles of use. In my opinion this dolly is not worth it.

Car Tow Dolly is a great company with honest owners and a demonstrated commitment to stand behind their product. I did experience some trouble with my dolly; however, Mr. Brown worked to resolve the matter to my satisfaction. Although I no longer own the dolly (recently went another direction), I recommend the product. I found it simple to use, loved the hydraulic surge brakes, and you can’t beat the ability to store it vertically.

We have owned two Car Tow Dolly's. We sold the first one to the buyers of the motorhome we owned at the time. The quality and ease of use of the dolly was outstanding! The price was also incredible. We used it for both long and short distance trips. We purchased our current dolly based on our experience and satisfaction with the first one we owned. The quality of our new dolly is once again outstanding. The minor assembly required was straight forward with clear instructions. We completed the assembly in less than an hour. We did have warranty situation regarding a piece of hardware which the company corrected the very same day we brought it to their attention. Customer service doesn't get any better than that! We are very satisfied with the company and would ihly recommend them and their products to anyone looking for an easy to use quality dolly, at a reasonable cost, backed by outstanding customer service.

I bought a used 2015 cartowdolly in 2018 and just love the product. I had to make an ajustment on the height of the platform because of vehicule i had. It's even better this way ! Had to get some new parts from the company and i got a verry nice service from their staff. Just wish they would take internationnal order's by their website. Still can order by e-mail and the service was great. Loved the experience !

I purchased my tow dolly in 2016 & still like everything about it. It’s extremely well built and handles great even at highway speeds. It is easy to move when off my RV & even can be stored upright to save space. I have not had any issues with it & would recommend this tow dolly to anyone. The best part is anytime you have a question you can call the company & quickly get a real person who is very knowledgeable about the workings of the dolly. Great product & company.

The ACME Tow Dolly is a well-constructed dolly. Video was very comprehensive so I had no problem assembling the dolly. The only thing the video states, which is a little misleading. is about the brake fluid. It actually takes almost 12 ounces to fill the lines, for the first time. The staff at the company was very friendly and helpful.

I did a lot of research before I purchased my car tow dolly. After doing my research it was an easy decision to purchase the EZE-TOW car tow dolly. I loved the low weight, disc brakes, and the vertical storage ability. I love towing my car with this dolly. They also had the best warranty available also. I actually had to contact them concerning an issue that I had with my tow dolly after having it for four months. They asked me to provide pictures and to describe what the problem I was experiencing. I happened to be close by their warehouse getting work done on my RV and they said to bring the tow dolly by and they would fix the issue. They really were really helpful and to me went above and beyond what I've experienced with other companies. I am so happy that I did my research and decided to buy this tow dolly, really satisfied customer.

After extensive research into the various types of Tow Dollies made in the U.S.A. from unrealistically expensive and heavy as a small car to designs that didn't appear to be able to hold up to long time use, we purchased a dolly from this company. Not only did it meet our expectations when it arrived via freight protected in a oak/hardwood pallet that later became a great source of firewood but, after 12K miles being pulled behind our Class C motorhome, loading and unloading our Prius C is quick, uncomplicated and makes RVing so much easier and less expensive than going the "4 on the Road" route. Not only was this the perfect purchase for our needs but, the after purchase customer service provided by this company is truly world-class with the customer's needs being met with a smile (at least that what it seemed via emailing) and a old time sense of customer service rarely seen these day. With all this said, would I recommend to a dear friend doing business with Car Tow Dolly Inc, a resounding YES.

Very sturdy and well made. It was quite ample towing a Dodge Grand Caravan for many thousands of miles over the last 3 years. They were rather generous in dealing with my original purchase. They had some difficulty in explaining the rapid wear on the dolly tires, but I finally figured that one out. The front wheels of the toad must be allowed to turn or one gets much lateral wear on the dolly tires. They were not aware of this and I lost both tires within 5000 miles. After replacing the tires, the wear was vastly improved. Would buy again. Also watch out for the lifting handle on the dolly. If you are not paying attention you can drive it through a plastic bumper backing up.

I purchased a car tow dolly from this business in 2019 and I can't say enough good things about it. From the time it arrived the quality and professionalism were evident. I used this dolly for many trips pulling my Honda Fit behind my motorhome last year. I have not had a single issue with it. The ease in which I connect and disconnect the vehicle from the dolly is fantastic. I highly recommend this tow dolly to anyone.

This the first time I’ve ever towed anything. I choose to start with a car (Prius-which is a heavy car) towed behind a 31’ motorhome! The Tow-dolly made it simple to get us, the motorhome and car from point A to point B. I’m actually shocked how easy and painless it is getting the car on and off the dolly. Within 15 minutes the car is on the dolly and ready to roll. 5 minutes to unload. The ramps are built well and seem very strong, though every once in a while, when going up the ramp the tire will flip the ramp up a little, where it meets the dolly, and the ramp becomes disengaged from the dolly. I solved that by initially driving onto the ramp with purpose, instead of slowly inching up the ramp. Once the tires are firmly on the ramp you’re golden. I’ve towed in NY metro area traffic and down some pretty sketchy country roads ( I live on top of a 700’ Hill with crazy twisty, narrow roads to get to civilization ) with no handling issues in any of those situations. The tow dolly is well built and beefy. However, it’s light enough to pick up and haul out of the way by hand. It also stands up fairly stable but I always put a couple 2 x 4s under the contact points to stabilize It when it’s stored pointing up. Overall, I am very happy with the quality and operation of our tow dolly.

I bought their newest dolly early 2020 before all this mess popped up. We have only been able to use it once in 6 mos. but when we did it worked as advertised. We are towing a 2016 Dodge Gran Caravan on this dolly which is about the limit both width & weight. The van was easy to load & towed behind our class C RV like it was not even there. I am very happy with this dolly & highly recommend it to others. I am 70 & had no problem with the loading & tightening of the straps.

Great Tow Dolly, we've used It to tow our 2012 Beetle behind the RV, and to haul or 73 Beetle from place to place behind our truck. It's easily adaptable to all our applications. Easy to use and light enough to maneuver around and put in storage. It takes up so little space. The adjustable straps are holding up very well and are adjustable to a wide range of tire sizes and width. The Dolly is light and easily maneuverable when empty. We opted for the Surge Brakes and they are terrific. We are very happy with our tow Dolly, set up took no time at all and maintenance is a snap. I have no worries this tow Dolly will be around a while.

Put a pile of miles on this dolly. South Texas, Northern Canada & East Coast to West Coast. Very well made, excellent quality & heavy materials. Put new tires on it the other day ready for a pile more miles. Great investment with zero issues even on the narrow roads.

I purchased my tow dolly in early 2019 and as of this writing in November I am quite pleased. I have towed a Prius at least 4-thousand miles behind both an Expedition and my motorhome. I like its light weight and of rugged construction. I also like how easy it is for one person to move it around and to store it upright. It handles well while towing and if it weren't for my rear view camera I wouldn't even know it was behind me. I love the self balancing tires. And I appreciate how easy the ramps are to stow and unload. I did have a minor problem when the wire that holds the nut on the winch (for tightening the straps) came out but, that was easy enough to replace.

One of the first (and best) investments I made for my RV lifestyle. It's about as easy as can be. I'm a huge fan and 5 stars all the way.

I have had the dolly about a year and have about 8,000 miles on it. I tow a 2015 Nissan Sentra behind a 2017 Jayco 26 X1 Class C Motorhome. At 65-70 MPG, I sometimes forget it is there. It tows straight and is not affected by wind. I have only lost about 1 MPG towing my car. I highly recommend it

I have been an RV owner for over 20 years. I have towed cars 4 wheels down and on trailers. I have towed motorcycles (BMW R1200 GSA) on trailers and heavy duty hitch racks. This is the first time I have used a tow dolly. My dolly (2020 Acme galvanized w/disc brakes) arrived as described about two months ago. It took a few hours to assemble but was easy with the video instructions. The most difficult item was getting the front brake line connection to line up properly. I tried the tow dolly because I downsized from a diesel pusher to a 24' B+ on a Ford Transit van with a 3.2 Liter Powerstroke. This is a small motorhome towing a midsize car. What I found really amazing is that I only dropped from a 16.3 MPG ave. empty to a 15.7 MPH ave. while towing an 2004 Acura TL fully loaded with stuff. This was a 7,000 mile trip. This dolly performed great. It tracked perfectly, was easy to load and only needed strap adjustments at the beginning of each daily driving leg after making a few small turns in each direction. After a few days it no longer needed any adjustments unless I had to take my car off the dolly. I checked with Acme customer service on a few minor issues and their response was immediate and very helpful. I wish I had switched to this system years ago. The dolly is very sturdy, easy to use and even my wife did not mind driving with it connected and she hates to tow anything.

Overall, I have been very happy with my Acme Tow Dolly. We purchased our tow dolly in 2016 and have about 30,000 miles on it. I really like the simple design and the fact that I can store it upright in my garage or underneath my motor home when we are using it. It is very easy to use. We have had issues with the tow dolly, we had to replace the LED lights and we have had to replace a fender. To be fair, the issue with the fender may have been caused by the fact that I did not have the tires balanced when I replaced them. Each time I have had an issue the owner of the company has been very helpful and has shipped me new parts free of cost and explained what I needed to do to complete the repair. In addition, he has make recommendations regarding how to avoid the issues in the future.

This is the Best Car Dolly I have owned. I have 2006 Grand prix which is a wide track and 5" of ground clearance. With proper hitch hight it's very easy to load and strap down.

It is a pleasure using the EZ-Tow-Dolly to tow a 2011 Mini-Clubman behind our RV. One of our mods is attaching permanent chain rings to the mini's subframe to make attaching safety chains easier. Another mod is to replace the balancing beads in the dolly's tires to eliminate potential valve stem issues. Had Big-O-Tire do the work. Beads are now significantly larger in diameter. We keep it looking "new" with Rustoleum Black Gloss(can). We have towed the mini 8-10 thousand miles, much of it thru severe winter conditions. Highly recommend over all other brands. Car Tow Dolly Inc. customer service has been outstanding when questions arose initially.
