I contacted Urban Specialty Woods looking for a top to our old entertainment unit that we cut in half. Natasha went out of her way to suggest different options but unfortunately I had something in mind that we couldn't match. It was a pleasure working with them and I will certainly be the first place I look when I have any cabinetry or furniture needs.
Urban Specialty Woods is goldmine for Long Island woodworkers. There really is no other hardwood dealers around with fair prices like this place. Harry is extremely helpful and extremely patient. Harry and the team at Urban are helpful, knowledgeable & consummate pros. In the instances where I have dealt with them I walked away feeling informed and satisfied with my purchases. Their prices are fair and their lumber selection comprehensive.
Most recently I purchased walnut lumber from them to make a AV console and their material quality was superior, making my job easy (ish). And while I have never found myself in need of one, their selection of slabs is expansive and reasonably priced.
I hope to have the opportunity to patronize Urban again many times in the future.

Harry was incredibly helpful and spent an hour with us picking out our wood and suggesting ways to put it together. I used all of his suggestions and my bar top came out awesome. His shop is spotless and the furniture they make is gorgeous. Will definately go back for the next project.
We ordered a custom made mantel .
“Harry” came to our home ,took measurements and gave us some options.
I love the shop, all kinds of wood pieces and (the scent of wood) easily accessible.
To our delight, received a call from Harry that the mantel was ready( took 2 weeks).
Harry also referred a guy that does the mounting( very pleased. ) He did an excellent job.

The black walnut dining room table with the V base, featured on their website is ours. I can't say enough good things about Urban Specialty Woods! Harry has the patience of a saint and each person there is a master craftsman. We chose every board and where it would be placed on the table, and designed the base. The table was completed in November 2020, even sooner than expected. It is magnificent and we could not be happier!

Harry was very knowledgeable and knew exactly what we wanted when we explained it to him. He made sure all projects were finished in time for my contractor to install them and even took the liberty to add a handle to my door order because I had forgotten to and he didn’t want it to hold up my project. We couldn’t be happier with Harry and Urban Specialty Woods and we are already planning new projects for them to build us.
Excellent service. I just stopped in for a small quantity of Walnut and was able to pick my own pieces. Staff were kind enough to mill the rough sawn pieces to finished materials. Will definitely be returning.
If you are looking for something unique and different from the ho-hum that you see in furniture stores, this is the place to go. We started this process in November, going to the “yard” With Harry to pick out a piece of wood. He was so knowledgeable and encouraged us along the way. We weren’t sure of many things but he smoothed things over. He took extra care to make sure everything was done professionally with no errors at all. So impressive. This is a quality company and will guarantee that your table or chest or whatever it is that you order will wow you.

This place is amazing the people there are so helpful and give you great advice.I am a novice woodworker and trying to up my game a little. Their selection of wood is beautiful and they are actually willing to join and plain the wood for you for a little extra cost. I believe they also meet up the first Tuesday of every month I haven't had a chance to do that but I really would love to stop by and talk amongst other woodworkers.
Harry and his team are absolutely fantastic and a wealth of information. They helped me source some unique woods to build a structure for my wedding and continue to be top notch for furniture projects I'm currently working on. Great selection of slabs as well.
Definitely an interesting place, not so.ething I expected to find on Long Island. Lots of interesting wood as dimensional lumber, slabs and reclaimed wood. Lots of interesting pieces and ideas. And the finished products they have on displayed are inspiring and beautiful. If you're a woodworker, or looking for an interesting, original piece (even a simple mantle can be very interesting) it's worth the visit.
The team at Urban is extremely professional and knowledgable. Even though we compete in the same marketplace as woodworkers, they are my go-to for quality materials and difficult jobs.
I am very happy with both the wood and the service I was provided with. I knew I needed a hardwood slab to make a coffee table, but not many more details. The employee I worked with stopped what he was working on and spent about 15 minutes with me to help me pick the right slab for the project. He also walked me through some of the more difficult steps I would encounter in the process. Despite living more than 40 minutes away, I will be returning here for my next projects.
Harry's work is beautiful, and he and his team have probably forgotten more about woodworking than I will ever know. They have most of the dimensional stock and slabs that I need along with some supplies, and are dealers for Festool tools and some really unique hardware. I only wish that I found them sooner.
These guys are the best! Experienced, friendly, and super helpful. They are always willing to give me advice on my projects and help me select the right materials.
