A big shoutout to the kind young man that helped me up off the floor in the entryway of the Wellsville TOPS after I tripped and fell over absolutely NOTHING.
Also a huge thank you to all the employees and customers that followed me out to the parking lot to make sure I wasn’t hurt.
The only thing I injured was my pride. I’m such a klutz!
FALSE ADVERTISING! Today the NFL playoffs start. I got an email from tops advertising a one-day only special for a large pizza and 20 wings for $25. I called and asked for the deli, and when they answered I told them I wanted the special.
The lady seemed nice but sounded confused and asked me to hold on for a moment
I heard her talking to somebody briefly in the background and then she got on the phone and told me she was sorry but they could not do the special because they had no chicken wings.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
It's the first day of the playoffs, you advertise a one-day special for pizza and wings for the playoffs, and you don't have any wings to do what you advertised??? Complete incompetence any way you look at it.
So I got my pizza and wings at their competitor whose name is Giant. And whose wings are way better than tops anyway.

I also unsubscribed from there emails. I don't appreciate being lied to.
Great store.
However, on their website it said they were opened to 11AM on Christmas day. My dad and I arrived at 10:52am to find all the doors closed, with nobody inside. Very disappointed. Website said it was opened after we arrived, because it still wasn't yet 11am, even though the doors were closed. It would be great if store times weren't falsely advertised. I'm not sure if the store was ever opened today to begin with, but either way is just frustrating.
If it WASN'T opened at all today, it would just mean you lied about your hours on the store website.
If it WAS opened today, it would mean that you lied about your hours on the store website AND closed early on top of all that.
I know this store is just a big conglomerate chain but it's still very disappointing that this happened.
Would happily change my rating if given a valid explanation.
During the last half year to year I have found shopping at the Wellsville location actually enjoyable when interacting with customer representatives. But yesterday several individuals I encountered who worked at the store either were off in their own little world (there were two individuals standing in the middle of an isle blocking the way) and a woman returning to bakery with a nasty look on her face. I didnt talk to her, i just noticed it while walking by. It's like they actually seemed stressed out. I don't know if it's the management or it's a sign of the times or what it is. I actually tried to use a little humor by sharing a story with 2 employees at checkout because I could see by their faces they weren't in a good mood and two individuals became defensive and even antagonistic over some light humor I used to try and lighten the mood. Before they were finished checking me out, the bagger called the manager over subtly to oversee the situation which was ridiculous because there was nothing wrong. Then I had 3!!! at the register lane with the bagger quietly rehashing "her version" of the encounter, while getting side glances from them inbetween. SMH. I don't have to shop at this store's location at all it's the same distance to go to Olean. I have noticed a change in the attitudes though of the employees at both these locations over the last year and I can't explain what it is but it seems like stress possibly and at times it's being taken out on the customer who is visiting to do their shopping and it's just wrong. I think they should be advised if they're having a bad day to just keep it to themselves and not interact as much with the customer as much. That being said I remember almost every single interaction a half year to a year ago was smiling faces Pleasant conversation and I actually left the store feeling better than when I walked in! What happened????
They are a little more expensive than other stores but not by much. Their Tops card does help out some. This store I went to switched over to plastic shopping carts, and they have two different sizes of carts to choose from. Their restrooms were clean and stocked. There is one small bench to sit at around the side of the building next to Runnings.
I've been going to this tops market for quite some time.Yesterday me and my girlfriend went there in the morning and seen bags of cherries for4.49 got to ring them up and it was more,so the lady acted kinda rude because I told her they were 4.49 on the sign,she said that's a pound.i said it doesn't say by the pound.So she called a manger over,she was a black lady and all she did was take them off my order.I told her every other store I shop in would give it to you that price.Not this manger.she didn't even care.I shop probably a couple hundred dollars a week at this store I'll never go back in there again.
Have to update my review, Happy 2023 everyone, so let's see here, the store is still fresh and clean and well stacked even with the bad weather and the slow down of deliveries within the area.
Due to recent events I have had to change my diet. So no more gluten and a mostly vegetarian diet, I have found that TOPS is the only local market to carry such a big selection that I don't have to worry too much about what my next meal will be. I even found that talking to staff, they know exactly where to look and what to look for. Thank you so much for this, it means a lot for someone like myself who health wise doesn't have much in the means of choice with food.
I like this grocery store. They could be a little more aggressive on marking down things though. I saw some semi-boneless legs of lamb on their last sell by date for $27. They were about $40 fresh. It would have been a good deal for half off the sale price, not the original price.
Bought 2 subs for 11 dollars each,went home and was greeted to stale bread with 1 thin slice of ham down the entire sandwich... talk about skimpy. The lady working deli had a horrible attitude and I knew I shouldn't have ordered food from her. Ps, she didn't even cut the sandwich in half or quarters. If you want a good deli experience make sure you check ur goods in store.
Kinda annoyed the last time i was in tops. I was picking up a 16 slice package of cheese there was 2 lanes with people in them, so I stood in the line with only one person the other had two people waiting. After waiting 5 minutes in line im told the lane is closing as they finish with the person ahead of me. I was paying with a card and it would have taken a total of one minute for me to be checked out. Instead I have to move over to the other line that now has 3 people and one with a full cart. Yeah I could have used the self checkout but you know there are already too few jobs in the area and every time a self checkout is used it gives the huge corporations more reason to remove cashiers from the payroll.
Super pleased. Such a blessing to have in the area as it's a one stop shop for just about anything you could ever need. Store very well stocked with several different options for each. Prices were close enough to Walmarts prices on the low end and when utilizing the rewards card some deals are even better.
I loved the way the store reminded me of the old days when customer satisfaction was a priority.
Great ? clean store with helpful people...nice selection...produce could use a little attention...what's up with "avocados ? " in this area ? We've had to trash ? ? so many of them...not happy about that but we will definitely go back...just moved here beginning of June...still learning our way to the best places for groceries...
Needs more of a selection in the Ethnic Aisle. Barely any Hispanic there, plenty of Italian and absolutely NO Asian or Indian. The TOPS in Wellsboro has some Asian and Indian. That's the only reason I went into this store to see if they have any Indian or Asian items.
Love the cakes they have here and they taste amazing, they will try and make the cake any way and any design you want on the cake, has many food and you can even use self check out if you are in a hurry and don't want to wait
The ‘customer service rep’ working cash register 4, clearly needs a course on “Customer Service” because she certainly didn’t have a very nice attitude. Our group being ‘out of towners’ would have appreciated being treated with a little more decency. All over a face mask dispute. I know when we walked in, I specifically looked for a sign saying whether they were needed, ( I saw NO signs regarding masks)and the three of us (2 who are children) with medical issues that weren’t wearing masks clearly weren’t good enough to pass through her check out. Luckily There were two adults in our group and if there wouldn’t have been, what would the mother have done with her two girls that weren’t welcome passing through her register line??? I know that We never would be treated like that in Our home state of Pennsylvania!!
Tops might not always have the most friendly of staff but some are very kind and helpful. also nearly anything u could think for food laundry soaps cleaners exc. plus if you have a bonus card u get money off gas and diapers it takes plenty off ur order if ur a cardholder cards are free..
Always a well run store in Wellsville, NY. Helpful management to help find difficult items, store is always very clean & well stocked in every dept. and staff is always courteous! Job well done @ this location!! Great deli,bakery,produce,meats,dairy...
It's rare for a store to have such friendly and immediate service, but this Tops definitely does!! I have to give a shout out to Dena in bakery. I went in not knowing what to get my friend for her celebration, but knew what flavors she liked. Dena came to the rescue, recommending a Death by Chocolate cake. There was one left and it was for maybe 1-2 people to share. Dena said, "I can make you one in 10 minutes." And she did. The cake is beautiful!
Great variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. Roast beef sliced to order and so lean it won't need trimming. DAVE'S KILLER BREAD, a favorite, always stocked, and fresh puppy and cat food too.
I prefer to do my grocers shopping late, when stores are not packed with people. Unfortunately, Tops only has self-checkout after 10, which makes everything take twice as long because the clerk at the monitoring station has to keep coming over to verify different things and the bag area is weighted, so that means having to reset it when you move stuff you've already scanned and bagged to the floor to make room for more. It's ideal for people who are just buying a few items. The other thing that really annoys me about Tops in Wellsville is that with each purchase, you earn points towards discounted gas...except that Wellsville doesn't have the gas station to make it worth while. If I've got to drive at least 20 minutes to get there, then I may as well go someplace that has better service, better hours, and better prices.
Excellent selection. A few check out attendants can be snarky and unprofessional from time to time. Great sales. Good establishment overall. In my opinion, not as friendly and convenient as Giant, but a great source for a more exotic selection of foods.
Great store. Clean, friendly staff, and a larger selection of organic foods and other things that you can't normally find in this area. Although they are open til midnight and they do have been decent prices, I would have rated five stars if it were 24-hour and had lower prices.
Tops never stops charging you more. Haha. Tops isn't a horrible place to shop but it's always so expensive they're always stocked really well which is nice but I assume that's because it's so expensive so most people choose to shop elsewhere. At least the workers are usually friendly.
We are new to Wellsville. It is a very clean grocery store but in comparison to the larger city we come from, things are very high in price here. I would think Tops would make things a bit more affordable for the sake of the town itself and not having too many choices in grocery stores to choose from. Maybe that's their strategy in sales? Small Town, not too many choices, will pay.I think they would do better as far as sales to be honest if they lowered their process a tad sale if their community. The selection was pretty decent. I will go here for things in a pinch but for the bulk of my shopping I will save for when I'm in Hornell or Olean.
As a visitor from out of town, there was serious sticker shock as to how expensive everything was. However, we put that aside against better judgement and proceeded. The salt rising bread we purchased was completely molded on the inside, our onion was rotten upon cutting into it, and we didn’t even bother with the avocado because that was obviously rotten in the store.
We liked the convenience as they’re open late. Besides that, don’t purchase anything fresh or local from this location.
