The customer service provided here at this Pep Boys is great! They're always kind and helpful, especially Matt & Alfred. The work is done the right way and professionally. They work with me and call me with updates. I get my oil changes, brake work, radiator, and other maintenance for 2 cars here all the time. I'll be back to get a full set of tires & rims! They know how to take care of their customers! Two thumbs up!

While most earlier reviews complained about long wait time etc. Mine being screwed up is a totally new level.
The shop put on a different model of tire to an All Wheel Drive car, although the proper model had been written down at the very beginning. To add salt to injury, the way how this shop tried to “resolve” the issue was totally unbelievable and a clear “stonewall” tactic.
I called the shop to verify if they would have the right tire before dropping off the car. New tire needs to be ordered. Thats fine. When I came back picking up the car, it was the first sight that the new tire was entirely different. The front desk person went out to check the car and insisted the tread is the same so it’s ok to have different models of tires on AWD cars (Seriously? A quick Google search would give anyone a “no” but a tire expert says “yes”). Then I took the two pictures and asked if these tires have the same tread. He finally admitted it was wrong.
Then the stonewall and pointing fingers tactics started. When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told no manager would be available speaking. In the end, they drove the car back to the shop and forced to put on the spare tire without me agreeing to it (b/c the key was with them not with me), said thats all that they could do, and pretty much “swept” me out of the shop.
Please evaluate if you’d like to be treated this way before coming in.
I had flat tire & wanted to check if it was repairable. They checked & said its not & gave me tire at a very reasonable price.
Great & quick service. All of the staff are very supportive. Girl at front desk gave me lots of options & gave me best price for the new tire.
Tracy was amazing in a time of need when my tire became obsolete and flat on the road. She helped me get set up for a tire change and was very kind all the way through, I appreciated all the help!! Incredible customer service.
Staffs were friendly. But you have no idea on when the vehicle would be ready and delivered to you. Needs to be a better system to manage the wait times and notify customer.
To the store manager, offer at least basic coffee, water services to your customers.. store and wait area were dirty.
STAY AWAY!!! I was aware of their terrible reputation but just due to store's closeness to my house and a simple service of rotating my tires, I made a reservation online and went to Pep Boys store on Stelton Rd, Piscataway and what a disastrous mistake I did. Despite telling me that my car will be ready in 1.5 hours, they kept it for more than 6 hours and still did not rotate my tires, in the end told me that I should replace my tires. If you want to waste your time and money, go to this place!
Used Stelton Rd location. The false statements on wait time, .condition of facility&waiting error.( In a few locations). forced to have diagnostic& fee when I knew wat needed repair.( thermostat replacement) car running worse than when i brought it in. suspension issues not there prior to diagnostic examination. overall, staff nice but mechanic/staff to damn slow. Couldn't tell who was in charge (manager)or if there is. Did not give my car back in the same clean condition it was when I dropped it off, had to return to pick up my Custom mats that were covered black from grease. had to clean everything touched by mechanic. Pep Boys app for repsir says they're supposed to be sanitizing your vehicle this was not done!
I went to Pep Boys at 1052 Stelton Rd. I got there at 1045am. I asked how much were their tires because they were having a sale. The guy at the register said, the tires were in stock and that they would have my car ready by 12:15pm. They asked if I was going to wait. I thought about it, then I told them I decided to go home. So glad I did!
When I checked their app for progress it was 12noon. They said my car would be ready by 12:15pm, yet there was no technician assigned. I called to find out how would that ready time be possible especially since there was no technician assigned? They claimed they would readjust the time to 12:30pm. That time came and went and it was now 1:00pm.
I called again, this time they claimed they had 3 tires installed, but they are waiting for the 4th tire which has to be delivered. I then asked why was I told the tires were in stock when in fact they were not. They tried to blame it on their computer for the inventory error, but really, who inputs the information in the computer ? I was done! The run around and excuses for incompetence were just beyond all I could take. I told them I had to pick up my husband by 2:00pm. They said they would put on one of my old tires so I could go pick up my husband and come back. I refused and told them I was not interested in returning so get the job done.
The job was not completed until 3pm. I dropped off my car at 10:45am. Finally when I came in to pay for my car I stood in front of the register waiting to pay. No one acknowledged that they were actively checking me out. I had to raise my voice again to hear excuses that they have to keep rebooting their computer.
Just when I thought the nonsense was over, it just continued into ridiculousness. They claimed they were bringing my car around right away. I kept looking, no car.
I had to raise my voice again, “where is my car? It’s coming mam. Finally the car was pulled in front.
Do me a favor if you need anything for your car … do not go to Pep Boys. It is the worst.
And yes.. they lied about the product being in stock. Stop lying to customers and get your act together.
Never again.
Very good service, I came here for a flat tire and replaced my tire as its kind of non repairable..philp and Alfred both were really helpfull and helped me to get the work done..Thank you guys once again.
After discovering a flat two hours from home, I made it to the Piscataway location on a donut after two other garages turned me away. Tracey took me in with no appt. at the literal end of the day and got me on my way home with a new tire. Her customer service and Jose work were absoutely exceptional at the late hour when I was stranded! If I ever have issues again, I know where to go!
Service is great! Highly recommend Peter as the mechanic, he is very helpful and kind! Pleasure speaking with Tracey too! The wait can be a bit long but worth it!
I work third shift so when they told me my wouldn’t be ready until five or 6 PM I couldn’t pick it up until the next morning. When I showed up the next morning, the car hadn’t even been worked on yet or was in the process of being worked on because they thought “it would be worked on tomorrow.” What part of I said I’ll pick it up in the morning. It’s so hard to understand?
They work they do on the car is fine but the communication with the customer is absolutely terrible. You need to tell them when you need your ready. Misunderstanding like this just can’t happen.
What i am observing since last few appointments is that they are not able to identify the real root cause of the issue. They are more of making a guess at the issue. So when they do fix , it doesn't quite necessary that your issue will be 100 % resolved. I think they should focus on trying to replicate the issue by driving the car and then try to find real root cause of the issue.
Do not come here if you expect punctuality, I scheduled an appointment for alignment and oil change, they said it would be done by 10, I had to be somewhere so I expressed before hand that I needed to be out by 10, well 10 am comes around and they had not even started it. What a waste of time, for an oil change I could have gone to my local Mobile and get a free car wash, think twice before coming here
Complete joke of a shop. I went an scheduled an appointment a 8:00 in the morning to get an oil change. Turns out the mechanic doesn't even arrive until 9:00, they didn't let me know about this until they mentioned that the mechanic was 45 minutes late to showing up on time. Then when he finally got in they didn't begin work on my car because they had a job from the night before they needed to finish. But they took this time to draw me in and lie to me to make it seem like they were actually doing work. They told me oh 2 other guys will begin work on it but all they did was pull it in the shop so that it would make it harder for me to leave and go to another place. It took 3 1/2 hours to get an oil change done, something that should only take 20.
Avoid this place like they plague, they will do anything to get your money and do a subpar job. They have done the incredible job of being the least trustworthy mechanic in a profession that has a lot of untrustworthy people. They will steal your time and money without blinking a eye. And if you have a damn appointment that I can make then actually respect the appointment. 1 star is too high for this place.
I was stuck on a Sunday night in piscataway!! Pep boys was actually open and the woman who was there helped me make an apt Sunday night for monday morning! Her Recommendation for hotel was a good choice too! I'm a single mom and I don't live anywhere near this pascataway location. (I live 1hr and 1/2 away. )
The next day, I walked in. Alfred was quick to take me in. His empathy and genuine concerns for me and my son stranded was beyond over whelming. His honesty and professionalism made me so comfortable staying for the repairs reguardlessof the price. The price was right!!
His team members Phil called all the places to find the part! After realizing he couldn't get the part until tomorrow. Then Alfred had his mechanic Rudys go out of his way with his own car to get the part. They knew I needed to be home today (Monday). They did everything they could for me and my son home. We are beyond Greatful!!! I feel like I'm family here and that's the kind of service that it should be!!

my sons bike was also in my trunk. So I took it out so he was not bored. He rode it in the parking lot while we waited. They treated hi. Like their own. When his kick stand needed to be taken off, they did it upon request immediately without hesitation! They just floored me with customer service here with so much help here at Pep boys! Awesome experience as a whole. Great service to go along with a friendly staff. I showed up as a walk-in around closing time in order to remove a nail/patch my tire; they took care of me with a smile on their face. Thank you Rudys and Alfred! Definitely recommend!
I called and asked if I can come to get service and I was told yes I can come and I was not specified any end timings. I reached around 4:50 PM EST , then I was made aware that staff was about to leave, so I drove that far and came back without service I was looking for. Eventhough this center opens until 7 PM EST. I should have been provided with timings beforehand when I called. There should be better communication by front desk. While leaving, front desk guy was even rude and not speaking nicely. Manager was good and supportive and hence giving 3 stars based on my personal experience at this store.
Service manager hooked me up really fast. Was super helpful and got me out of there super fast. Alfred was very courteous and pleasant to deal with.

Would give zero stars. Worst experience of my life. On March 7, 2025, I brought my car to Pep Boys in Piscataway for an oil change. However, on April 4, 2025, around 8:00 PM, I began hearing a loud knocking noise from the engine. I immediately stopped driving the car and had a mechanic friend inspect it that same night. Upon inspection, he showed me that the oil appeared to be extremely dirty, resembling black sludge, which led him to believe that the oil change had not been done. I told him I had the oil changed from pep boys done less than 1 month ago. His advice was to take it back to Pep boys because they did not do the oil change.
The next morning, I brought the car straight back to your Piscataway location for further inspection. After a few hours, I was told the technicians were unable to determine what was wrong with the car. I was repeatedly told by the technician that I needed to wait for the manager to be involved because only he could speak to corporate or take further action. That in itself was suspicious, why would I need to talk to the manager or corporate if they didn't mess up.
The technician also repeatedly asked if I had made any changes to the oil since the previous oil change. There were also no oil leaks anywhere and no engine light on. When the Pep boy's technician showed me the oil, it was a surprising golden color with specs of black, which was noticeably cleaner than what I had seen the previous night. This inconsistency was concerning. It defiantly looked like they put in new oil before I came back to show me there was oil in there. The following Monday, the manager told me he inspected the car and said the rod in the engine was broken and it just happened because of age. How does that just happen on its own without any signs. I take care of the car and take it to be serviced on time. something like this doesn't happen if the engine was running with proper oil in it.
I opened a claim with them, for thorough investigation. Their claims department said there was mechanical failure, but it couldn't be determined if it was their fault so they cannot he held liable for further investigation or any repair. Of course they would say that, so they don't have to pay for the damage they caused. I now need a whole new engine in my car because they didn't do the oil change, and they are not taking responsibility for it.
THE WORST LOCATION to visit as the building has NO heat l, it's freezing cold in the building.

I took my car here to install 4 new tires. The price was very competitive, but the quality of the technicians is poor. It took them over 90 min to install 4 tires. That was after waiting an hour for my car to be pulled into an open bay. The first problem was the weights for balancing the tire were ripped off by my brakes due to improper installation. When I finally got my car back it had a very strong pull to the left. I think something was off with the brake that the weights hit. It was puling to the same side that I found random weight on when I looked. Not sure but it did get better after I had them correct the air pressure that was inconsistent and 5 lbs low in the rear and 3 lbs difference in the front two tires. But I am not done yet, one of the tires was installed backwards. Meaning the tire was marked this side inside and it was installed outside. Luckily, I found that. When I called them, they were not very helpful telling me that they have a lot of appointments and the best they could do is the next day. This is to fix something they incorrectly installed
