Shout-out to Edgar. We had an overheating engine and he accommodated us and was able to get us back on our road-trip within a couple of hours! He explained his diagnostic findings, told us what he fixed, and what we should consider next towards full resolution or sale of car.
Johan was very helpful when I came in for a state inspection as a new driver. He checked over everything, leveled out my tires, and suggested some fixes. Really appreciated the service and kindness as a new driver!
They charged me $657 just for the rear break pad. $657 just for the rear brakes???? Never ever go to this place. When i went to a different place they gave me a quotation of $240

My sons are going off to college. Their car needed a once-over. Checking all belts change of all fluids and and making sure that the long trip and the car's use in the Chicago area will be safe. The prices are very reasonable and the staff cordial. Very quick turnaround. Highly recommend.
Helped get my Acura RL back on the road after having a busted radiator and leak into my transmission. Didn’t know who to go to but glad I came here. They took my car in immediately and had me back on the road the next day! Can’t say enough about this shop, how knowledgeable they are and the attention to detail fixing my car. They are horrible! They ruined my car & cut out extra wires & pieces when I only asked for a tune up. I have to pay hundreds to fix their mess. They didn’t even correctly replace the spark plugs. I wish I would’ve known sooner I would’ve just done it myself. I was searching for a new mechanic & in the midst I ran into these crooks. Stole $20 out of my glove compartment for what?? You’re literally getting paid $300 for sloppy work & you’re being greedy taking my chump change?? Please stay away guys… Do not make the same mistake as me.

Well look no further, this shop is the best shop in Hudson county . They are honest , courteous, professional and they never over price you . The price they set is the price it is, no padding the bill no double talk straight forward communication.
This guy is annoying. Any job, he don’t do when customers are around there. He always asked you to go home. If you are around there he got angry and start yelling you. it means there are something wrong with his job. As an old customer with this business I faced he was ego and acted like he already have enough money. He is very disrespectful to customer. I am not recommended this place to others.
Worse place to bring your vehicle. They use cheap parts and still OVER CHARGE! I lived on same street over 15+ years. I've heard rumors of them always scheming but decided to take my vehicle to their shop because the other shop close by closed down. When vehicle received, started making loud noises that were NEVER PRESENT. Then told me to fix that noise is extra $150. Took t to different mechanic and paid $30! DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE TO THEIR SHOP! YOUR BETTER OFF ASKING A RANDOM PERSON OUTSIDE OF AUTOZONE.
What goes around comes around! I recently took my car to Hoyos Auto Repair and inquired about fixing an issue with my heat/AC panel. I spoke with the owner in person, he assessed the situation and said he would need to take a deeper look and then would call me back with a quote. A few hours later I received a call from the owner with a quote for the job. I agreed to the initial quote given and was told it would take 24-48 hours to complete the job.
The next day I received a call from the owner, telling me that the part he ordered was not all that was needed and that it was going to cost more $$ to fix the issue. I didn’t get a good feeling about the situation and told him I did not accept the new quote and would not like to move forward with the job. He then responded by saying that I would still need to pay him for the labor because he “opened up the car”, I said, “no”, because the car was not fixed and the quote was based upon the vehicle being fix. I picked up my vehicle a few hours later.
A week later I took my vehicle to another local mechanic, when he opened up the car to fix the same issue he informed me that parts were missing and a line had been intentionally cut! Clearly it doesn’t take an expert to conclude that the owner of Hoyos Auto Repair took some retaliation action, when I did not agree to pay for labor when the job was not completed in full.
Bottom line, these people are untrustworthy and unethical. Don’t take your vehicle here!
Thank you so much to Edgar! He changed my headlight bulb so fast, maybe 5 minutes the most. Everything was super fast and simple, and affordable. I’m glad I chose this mechanic to go to!
Pretty much agree with all the other reasonable customers here. Edgar and Johan have had the misfortune of keeping at least 4 of my inexpensive old cars running for ~ 9 years. From entire engine replacement (they found a motor with less mileage and did the clutch as it was out) down to general maintenance and small but annoying motors and switches. They are honest, will show you parts that needed replaced and charge fairly which is worth any price.
I been going to Hoyos for more than 12 years...my dad introduced me to the owner because my father would get all his cars fix with him.. and I cannot say enough....this mechanic is HONEST.....and that's impossible to find but Mr.Hoyos is legit ...he is honest...he is straight forward. I would no go anywhere else...never ever. If you need your car fix this is the guy to go.
This is my second review for Hoyas because they are just that good!
I do Lyft and Uber so my car is everything. This also means I have a lot more maintenance to worry about than the average driver. I’m saying that, my husband usually does my brakes but wasn’t able to this time and my car was squeaking like a stuck pig! I already had the brake pads I just needed them installed. I called Hoyas at 12:30pm and he told me to come in. I got there and dropped the car off at 2pm. He called me to pick it up at 3pm. AND it was a fraction of what I thought it would be.

My review is long time due. I got my car serviced for brakes and cv joint way back in 2015 when I was temporarily staying at Newport. I got new brakes at half the price compared to other shops. I asked how long the brakes will go and I was told minimum of 3 years. Tell you what it's been 6 years brakes are still solid. The car has been driven more than 35000 miles now.
By far my favorite Mechanic I have ever had! Always gets the work done quick and at a fair price! Will always recommend to friends! Changed my battery on the spot.
I found this mechanic via google maps trying to find a good local mechanic to work on my car. All of the reviews for the most part were postive so I said I will give them a shot. I'm glad I listened to the reviews because this place was great. Good communication, good prices and good work. Let's not forget very convenient! Literally a 5 minute walk from my place. If you are in the Journal Square/Jersey City area and in need of a mechanic, I recommend this place.
Edgar, the owner, is excellent. He's very trustworthy, reliable and doesn't cut corners. I've taken several makes and models an he works his magic everytime. As long as his shop is around, hell always be my first choice. Loyal customer for over 20 years!

I am picky about mechanics in Jersey because most have jacked up prices, so I came because of the positive reviews and it is very close to transportation at Journal Square. I am glad I did.
I had my own parts and just needed the labor to get my brake pads changed ($80), front rotors replaced ($50), and door handle replaced ($50). The prices arent as low as Bronx prices but close enough and very reasonable. Edgar and his son were very honest in their evaluations and pricing and openly admitted they werent experienced at exhaust and recommended I do that work elsewhere. They actually even did one minor repair for free since it only took a few minutes.
Fair and good pricing convenient location, polite and nice staff. This is my new go to local mechanic, I highly recommend.
Ps: I had such a good experience that I came back with drinks for them (non-alcoholic though so they dont ruin the next guys' repair lol)

I bought 1 of the cars from his lot & it was the worse car I ever bought. I was there every other month with the same problem! Every time he would fix it, it would just be ok for a month! I got tired of bring it to him so I finally took it to the dealer to see if they can fix it.. Come to find out that he was charging me for new parts but was putting in used parts!! That's not it!! I also had another car that I would bring to him come to found out that he was putting in the wrong parts(he was rewiring to make it work)!! I always wondered why some times I didn't get a receipt or I would get a receipt that wasn't itemized.. MAKE SURE TO DOUBLE CHECK HIS WORK & ASK HIM WHAT'S THE NAME BRAND OF THE PART HE PUT IN & MAKE SURE HE PUTS ALL THAT ON THE RECEIPT!! SO IF HE WORKED ON YOUR CAR & IT STOPPED WORKING DAYS AFTER YOU LEFT THE SHOP CHECK THE PART HE PUT IN!! MAKE SURE ITS NOT USED OR MAKE SURE HE DIDN'T TWEAK SOMETHING FOR IT TO WORK.
Love this mechanic! Buyer beware: he can get very busy at times, and it takes longer during those busy times.
This guy is cheap, honest, and willing to do dirty repairs with spare parts to save you money; adjust your expectations accordingly.
If you can wait a few days, and just want your car to run again for the least amount of money, then try this guy.
If you want the standard mechanic who needs to order your exact part from the dealer, or if you need your car back ASAP, try another spot.
I called they day before, Edgar/owner said bring car in and I can tell you what you need. Edgar was very efficient, he priced the parts we agreed on total cost and he showed be the before and after work....reliable, honest, quick....

I've been going here for at least 10 years,and the Edgar and his son have ALWAYS been honest, and don't play around with your car, they do great work, and the price is fantastic, I even brought my car from them.
Edgar is a good mechanic. You bring him your car and the work gets done and is done right. They have a busy shop so you cannot be sure how long it will take but versus the big corporate shops his prices are comparable or lower and he is a better mechanic than those shops tend to have.
Was it expensive and useless getting my car set up to pass the NJ sticker test. Yes. Did these guys make that possible for me for hundreds cheaper than every other shop in the area within 50 miles. Yes. They are great guys, nice family business and pretty much where I will go for the next 5 years. (living here for a few years) but they are truly a great outfit and coming from a family of mechanic's myself I'm always happy to find decent one's out there.
UPDATE 1. I've since taken them to redo my brakes, calipers and rotors that were needed. It was the best price I've ever paid and that's having lived in Michigan, Los Angeles and Chicago.
UPDATE 2. I had a stripped oil pan, it's been that way for eons and I got the larger screw that goes in and rethreads the pan so that you don't have to pay $700+++ for a new pan and screw. No one has ever seen a problem with changing the oil as is before, however I went to a few places that have a nicer set up and lobby with a TV thinking that it would be a better service and a Hoyo's has better things to do (anything mechanical I will go to Hoyo's until I move further than 100 miles away from them) each place I went to warned me in that attempt to be scary manner that mechanics often have, that if I leave now, and don't give them $700+++ for a service I don't need my car might blow up and I might die and if there is a baby hedgehog on board he or she or it will burn to death along side me. So, I should just hand them my money right. No, none of that. I drank those threats down with a big glass of nope and called Hoyo's to see if I could come in. I started to explain the threaded screw situation and all I got was a puzzle nod like I'm an fool that fell for other places scare tactics. They checked everything out and gave me my car back happy as can be. Everything checked, everything running perfectly. I think it was between $50-$80 for a full synthetic checkup and everything was checked out. When they didn't try to upsell anything I started saying are you sure it doesn't need a trasnmission flush, no new wiper blades or air filter. I don't need a serpentine belt? They just shrugged and said no, we checked everything out and everything is good.
So, again, stick with these guys for everything.
