What clients say about Target in Jersey City (NJ)

Very good store, especially thanks to Janine for her exceptional customer service and help. Usually, in most stores, people don’t help much, and if we ask for something, they just tell us the location and expect us to search for it ourselves. But Janine was really sweet—she helped me find the items I was looking for and explained everything to me. That was very kind of her.

I placed a drive up order at 11 am for six Nespresso coffee boxes before going to work. I came back at 7 pm to pick it up and stood in the parking lot waiting for almost 30 minutes. No communication, no urgency.
When someone finally came out, I was told the items were out of stock and that they only had one box available. I already paid for six, so now I’m told I have to wait for a refund.
That didn’t sit right with me, so I went inside myself. I walked straight to the coffee aisle where Nespresso is usually stocked and guess what, there were two boxes sitting right there on the shelf.
So either the employee lied to my face or did not bother to actually check. Both are unacceptable. This is pure laziness and incompetence.
Drive up is supposed to be convenient. Instead it wasted my time after a full workday and left me dealing with refunds for items that were clearly in the store. Do better.Jan 25, 2026 -
I will NEVER shop at Target again. For the second time in a month, they delivered maybe 60% of my order due to items being out of stock but then kept the pre-authorization hold DAYS after the charge settled. The authorization charge is hundreds of dollars that is showing as unavailable in my account, resulting in declined payments for my phone and my pharmacy. Two separate calls to customer service ended in being disconnected after a 20+ minute hold and on my third attempt I'm told simply to "go ahead and wait until the authorization falls off the account..." I spend about $700-800/month with Target but I will "go ahead and" take my business somewhere else....

I bought products at this store (not a huge purchase, but $65) and target towed my car from this lot. My two receipts from the trip are timestamped at 12:08 and 12:20. When I finally got to my car, their towing receipt showed that they came at 12:30pm. The towing cost me $180 and a lot of time. I’ve sent them many messages about it and no one from target has reached out at all! Just drives me crazy because that lot is huuuuuuge— zero chance of anyone needing a parking spot. Why were they towing cars in the middle of the day anyway? I was a loyal customer. I’ve spent thousands a year there! And now I can’t imagine giving target another dollar. It’s a nice store with a shitty public safety team.

This Target is struggling with staffing. The regular checkout line was about 30 people long, and the self-checkout line was even worse. They definitely need to open more registers to keep things moving.

I purchased a carton of milk at Target. Rissy was the cashier. She was extremely kind and friendly and seemed to genuinely care about her customers. I asked her about the almond milk that I had intended to buy there. But there were none remaining on the shelves. She immediately offered to check the stock in the back of the store. Then she called over one of the managers, Nai, who was also very concerned and clearly wanted to assist. These two women made my shopping experience at Target quite positive and encouraging. I applaud Target for hiring only the best.

I had a very disappointing and unprofessional experience at this Target location. On Nov/15 around 10:20PMwhile I was checking out at Register #3, one of the employees who was adjusting items in the lane blocked my path. I politely said “excuse me,” but she responded with a rude attitude instead of helping.
What made the situation worse was that the cashier at Register #3 laughed while this was happening. When I asked why she was laughing at me, she denied it and tried to act like she wasn’t. The entire interaction felt disrespectful, unprofessional, and completely against basic customer service standards.
As a customer, I expect employees to treat everyone with respect. Instead, I experienced behavior that felt discriminatory and unacceptable. Target needs to address employee training, customer service, and workplace ethics at this store to ensure no one else goes through this kind of treatment.Nov 16, 2025 -
Here's just a "word to the wise"... that you might LEARN from my experience. (This experience does not relate to shopping inside the store). Rather, it concerns the expansive parking lot outside. Do not... I repeat, DO NOT EVER "temporarily" park your vehicle in that parking lot, if you are not actually shopping at the time inside the store. For example, let's say that you have a dentist appointment in the Journal Square area - and you want to let the Target parking lot "babysit" your car for a couple of hours, while you travel to Journal Sq for your appointment (since the Newport Path station is only about a 5 minute walk from the Target parking lot).
THEY WILL TOW YOUR CAR! Are they wrong for that? Not exactly... because the signage in the parking lot clearly tries to warn you about it. I'm not mad at Target per se... I'm more mad at myself for "trying" them!
$180 bucks later... is what it cost to "free" my car from the towing company listed on the signs. Anyone walking past the Target parking lot early on a random weekday morning, clearly knows that ALL of the people who own those cars parked in the lot, are not shopping that early inside the store. (This probably adds to the temptation of believing that "You'll be fine."). Okay... go ahead with your bad self then lol! Again, please learn from my lesson... so as not to have your "wallet" learn it for you!Oct 15, 2025 -
They have quite a selection of Kpop albums, I love that because I won’t have to keep going to Kpop stores and they are priced well and unlike Kpop stores they will charge you 30 dollars for an album that cost only 15-20 dollars!!! I just wish they had albums in stock because anytime I go they are open or the same albums that just never sell. To all my Kpop girlies, don’t walk but run to target for those albums!!!

Target Optical in Jersey City.
They are always friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and very helpful. The service is 5-star. I've been using this optical for years and they've never disappointed me. 100% recommended.
From Michael to the eye doctor, and the rest of the staff they are simple amazing. Make us feels like we were friends and at home.
Made glasses +sunglasses for my mother and myself.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Oct 12, 2025 -
Absolutely loved it here, it’s my dream come true, so many bargains and amazing products

LOVE TARGET - whilst this was not a Super Target (like in Florida), it's still huge. Found everything here - food, toys, clothes electronics and so much more.
Service on this trip the USA has been so variable. Some of the works would have been good characters on the series Superstore.
They ran out of carrier bags - WHAT!?!?! The cashier suggested I buy gift bags @$6 a piece and I would have needed maybe 8 to 10? SERIOUSLY Target - offer boxes or clean trash bags - ship in bags from other stores.... For this reason alone I am changing a 4 star review to just two... As I should have been told this fact before starting check out...Sep 06, 2025 -
My wife was at a Target self-checkout today, September 3rd, between 4:00 PM and 5:00 PM. She asked a young male employee to help her remove an item from her cart. He came over and did it, but then aggressively burped at her. My wife came home completely hurt and crying.
I understand that newcomers from Europe may not always be appreciated in this area, but I will not allow you to behave this way with my wife. Next time, she will not be at Target aloneSep 04, 2025 -
Ordered at target with pickup, so I could save time on picking up. Turns out I had to literally wait over 5+ mins while the staff were discussing some personal matter, while I waited, first and only one in line.
When they got to me, it took them several minutes, way more than what it would take me to actually get the glue from the supplies aisle and just lay it on self checkout.
Ridiculous experience both on the waiting and the serving side at the store.Sep 02, 2025 -
The store felt racist. I went early in the morning for a pleasant shopping experience with few people around, enjoying my free time without rushing. I was followed throughout my visit, and while paying, someone wearing an asset protection vest came over to suspiciously eye my cart.

If target is wondering why in store foot traffic is down, one of the major reasons is customer experience. The jersey city store in understaffed on weekends. All Check out, pick up, return lines are sooo long and there are few people working the tills. There’s so many people walking out of the store because it takes forever to buy an item.

This Target location is, without a doubt, one of the most poorly managed I've ever encountered. The in-store environment is consistently unkempt, with empty boxes strewn all over the place, creating a chaotic and unwelcoming atmosphere.
Beyond the disarray, some of the staff members exhibit incredibly unprofessional behavior, which only adds to the negative experience.
Frankly, going into this store is a complete waste of time. I typically use the order pickup service, and that's precisely what I'll continue to do to avoid the frustrating in-store conditions.
keep way from this dumpJul 13, 2025 -
This Target has a huge staffing issue. The line to check out is at least 30 people deep. The line for self checkout is worse. They need to open all registers.

AVOID IF YOU CAN
Worst Target in North Jersey without question. They do not staff appropriately, the checkout lines wrap around the entire store, inventory is scattered about, and the employees look miserably overworked. Save yourself some peace and go to the Target in Edgewater or North Bergen. Far better experiencesJun 14, 2025 -
I visited the Jersey City Target yesterday and found a disappointing situation at self-checkout. While they've added more staff to supervise customers during checkout, the stations themselves were noticeably dirty and poorly maintained.
For anyone planning to shop there, I'd suggest bringing gloves when using self-checkout to protect yourself from the unsanitary surfaces. The attached photos show the condition of these stations.
Basic cleanliness should be a priority, especially in high-touch areas like checkout counters.May 30, 2025 -
I've been to the Target in Jersey City a few times now, and overall, it's been a great experience. The store is well-stocked, and I usually find everything I'm looking for. The layout is clean and easy to navigate, which is super helpful when you're in a rush. I especially appreciate the variety of products, from groceries to household essentials and even clothing. It’s truly a one-stop shop!
The staff has been mostly friendly and helpful, though sometimes it can be hard to find someone if you need assistance in a specific department. The checkout lines can get long, especially on weekends, but they do a good job of moving things along with self-checkout options. The parking situation could be better, as it gets crowded, but it’s not a dealbreaker.Sep 12, 2024 -
This store has gone overboard with locking up items. Socks? Really?? I can understand locking high-value items, but this is just inane.
I wanted to get a pack and nobody showed up to help after using the 'call for help' device. No employees in the immediate area either. I hope Target either reverses their decision to lock up a significant part of their store(s), or actually staffs their stores appropriately to unlock these items.Sep 04, 2024 -
The place looked like it got ransacked two weeks ago and no one picked anything up. We’ve been coming here for 4+ years and have never seen it this bad. Embarrassing for a bodega let alone a $67 billion company.

ZERO STARS. I would never recommend for anyone to shop at this Target because I encountered very rude, unhelpful, and apathetic employees in-person and on the phone when I tried to make a return. I bought a $100 INTEX built-in pump, gray air mattress April 14th and when I got home and opened the box, a completely different, much cheaper, blue air mattress was inside and it didn’t even have the pump it needed. A week later I went to return it and the "manager" told me I needed to call Guest Relations to resolve the issue, just for the Guest Relations rep to tell me the return policy was up to the discretion of the store and to speak to the manager. These people had me running around in circles for an entire hour. Mind you, the rep on the phone asked to speak directly to the store manager and she refused to come to the phone and kept relaying information to her co-worker to tell me. I needed the mattress the day I brought it because I moved into a new apartment. Because of this mishap I had to spend $175 to stay in a hotel and overnight ship a new air mattress from Amazon. At the very least, I should get a refund for the inconvenience and it is quite obvious one of their employees pulled a switcheroo because the box was sealed with Target branded stickers when I completed my purchase. But Target could care less about their loyal customers. One of your employees clearly removed and took the expensive, bigger air mattress, replaced it with a smaller, cheaper mattress, and sealed it with the Target stickers on the side, and I should have to pay for it. It is very simple for Target, a multi billion dollar company to refund a measly $100 and I am sure there is someone in power, much higher up than the store manger and the phone rep, who can override this ridiculous return policy for air mattresses. And maybe stop outsourcing customer rep jobs to people in foreign countries.

Beautiful store. Clean, everyone was very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms could be cleaner. Overall they are stocked and good supplies. Plenty of things to buy from toilet paper, baby clothes, baby supplies, cleaning supplies, limited kitchen supplies, towels, electronics, etc.

Can't say thank you enough to Fonzi, Lisa (who was off today) and the rest of the crew from Store #1886 for helping my nephew celebrate his 6th birthday! And he came all the way from Toronto just to be able to walk through a Target store... since there aren't any more in Canada. Thank you again for all that you did to make it a very special day for him.

There are like 3 targets in the area & I by chance landed here and now it’s my fav store while it’s still target I find this one in JC to be well kept and with tons of display.. it’s a one stop shop
For everything from Home needs, organization, storage, clothing, baby, furniture, backyard, school supply, electronics to Barbie . They have a large area for each section and with tons of display .. they have a huge section for real and artificial plants. They have excellent selection of travel suitcases too.
I wish some sections were better organized.. this one has a Starbucks tooJul 27, 2023 -
This store is the closest target to where we live and it's really good. It has some good deals all the time and it was some good quality products at a decent price. The in-store pickups and exchanges are seamless and the cist service representative is kind enough to answer any questions unlike many other Target stores. Also compared to ShopRite you get a lot more organic options here which is great. The only thing messy is the wardrobe section where a lot of clothes are lying on the floor unattended. A good store in all.

Great departmental store. Even the staff is so good and helpful. It has so many goods for you from so many categories be it home, travel, technology, clothing, home decor, kitchen, bath, whatever you can think of. Even the discounts on pricing are also extremely good.
Loved the store, was very clean and tidy and will definitely be visiting again with family.Feb 24, 2023 -
Love this Target. Its classier than Walmart for sure.
One issue Indo have is that there are way too many employees here socializing and when you need help, they avoid you (they turn away from me when they realize I am approaching them for help).
The technology department has a guy staff that is pro active and will approach you himself if you need help. He is an exception to the rule
Some departments are not kept clean while some are. Depends on the employees that manage these areas I presume.
While Walmart has most of its items Made in Communist People's Republic of China (PRC), some items at Target can be found that are not from PRC, which is great for healthy safety reasons.Dec 13, 2018
