If you say you close at 4:30 you should close at 4:30, not 4:15. VERY frustrating when you show up at 4:17 somewhere that’s says they close at 4:30 and they won’t let you in. Highly dissatisfied.
Where to start. The cons:: 1. Unsafe operation 2. Long wait times of dumping for amount of traffic 3. Very unorganized 4. Only follow MDNR special waste procedures by 50% which in return puts individuals and environment at risk. The pro: low cost disposal than national average. Scale house attendants friendly with fast check out.
This dump is an affordable and convenient place to drop off trash. They weigh your vehicle when you enter and again when you leave, so you're only charged by the pound. Just make sure your load is covered, because if it's not you'll be charged extra. One of the best things is that they're open on the first Saturday of every month until 2:30, which makes it easy to fit a trip in on the weekend.
They need to be open later or be open on the weekends some people have to work all week and can't make it in and I think they need to change their hours of operation and hire people that want to work
I brought my stuff like i have done many times..tied down and covered..on way there i seen trash in steet.. I stopped and grabbed the trash bags thru broken bags in truck...i got charged 10 bucks for picking up someone else trash..it was in the road..so I learned don't help them out. They will charge you..next time I see bags in steet run them over..so they will have bigger mess to clean..
Rude people run this place like Tara Davis Foutch. They are definitely money hungry and don't know how to say please or thank you. They raised the no tarp fee from $10 to $50 I didn't know that, I don't go here but once a year. I only had $66 total but my bill is 70 so I was $4 short and they would not budge at all I had to count pennies literally
Heard they were possibly raising rates from 35/ton to 100+/ton. This will crush local trash haulers, and heavily tax the already burdened Buchanan county resident. All because they're letting other metropolitan areas deposit trash here because it's cheaper. Call the city manager's office and tell them to stop importing trash that pollutes our land, and then make us pay for it!!!
Fast service. Short lines. Please take note that it is an extra $10 fee if you do not have your load covered with a tarp. The lady at the window was nice.
MUCH easier to use than any of the 'transfer station' options in KC. Way less confusing, safer, the smell won't singe off your eyebrows and you get a nice drive through the countryside instead of going to Independence. This is a great resource to have available. Makes getting rid of bulky debris easy.
Everything was very good we had a couple other guys help unload some heavy items that I couldn't lift I had back surgery last month and tried to play them but they wouldn't take anything
Never thought I would write a review for a landfill but here I am. This was my first time at this particular landfill. The suggestion for improvement is a better understanding for new folks where they need to go once in the landfill. I had to dump some brush so I followed the other trucks and then was instructed to brush dump pile back up the hill. I did that and finally got it done but I had to ask 3 different people for directions to get to where I needed to be. The good thing is that everyone I talked to was friendly and helpful.
I have to say from Missouri to California and all between I have not been to a better landfill. Terry is an absolute Ray of sunshine, if you need to go to a landfill I highly recommend this place.
The st.joseph landfill is pretty self explanatory you go in dump your trash pay the fee and your done pretty simple besides the fact the roads are muddy muddy when it's raining outside you will get stuck if you don't have a four-wheel drive it stinks very very badly but it is a landfill so I mean you got to kind of expect that the fee is usually $20 unless it's over a certain limit or ain't tarped off if you pay with the card they charge you for paying with a card some of the machine operators out there can be pretty mean just don't talk to them ones you'll know which ones they are cuz I'll be the first ones to yell at you for something stupid but all in all it's been all right place
It's a little bit of a drive but that makes sense when we went it was very busy but they get you through and going pretty good and efficient got rid of our trash and got out pretty quick it was a little muddy and messy cuz it had been raining earlier but otherwise no problems great experience

Cost for pickups is $35/ton with a $20 min charge.
Don't forget about the city's Clean Sweep program that occurs twice per year (in the Spring and the Fall). It allows you to take 2 loads to the landfill for free (if you show proof you have paid your property taxes).
