What clients say about Salvage Garden in Detroit (MI)

Great spot for salvaged materials. It’s a small place so the inventory isn’t extensive. But it’s extremely well organized. This is not a place where you sift through piles of junk to find what you need. Everything is clean and easy to see. Plumbing fixtures, lots of doors, and a variety of hardware. Plus sine other odds & ends, a few pieces of furniture, and some new hand-made goods. Definitely worth stopping by.

Got the MOST GORGEOUS doors here for such a great price. I get so many compliments on my "original" glass French doors! They're perfect for my 1924 home!

Salvage Garden is an incredible resource for historic preservation and I couldn’t recommend it more. Thanks, Lise & Sean, for all your work!

I can’t recommend this place enough if you’re looking for a period piece in decent condition at a fair price. The owners (we only met the husband, but his wife sounded lovely too) are sweet, excited on your behalf, and want to be inside peoples’ budgets. To me it felt like they wanted to be as welcoming to people as possible and your finances shouldn’t bar you from having pieces in your house you love.
For us, we own a 1920’s craftsman in MN. Our front door is not original as the sunroom was not originally an enclosed porch- it is now and the door is a fiberglass one that I’m not a huge fan of. I’ve been dreaming of a craftsman styled door to replace it since I even walked the house in April. I’ve been picky because it’s such a prominent door and our interior trim is original too. Finding something that gave privacy, but didn’t feel completely closed off, but matched the house, but matched the trim, and all of the other things had been hard. I didn’t think I’d find a door anytime soon, especially in my “house poor” budget right now.
I’ll admit I was a little nervous when we pulled up because the store is small, but don’t let it deter you. They’ve curated their inventory perfectly, all the items are adorable, in good condition, and are pieces I think anybody would actively seek out in any salvage. The owners are very knowledgeable and will guide you to the right spot like they did for me.
I did find a door by the way, I’ve fallen in love with it, I didn’t think it was possible to be this excited about a door? But here I am! It needs a little refurbishment, as any salvage piece does, but it’s entirely cosmetic. I’m impatiently waiting for summer so we can put the finished door in and give our home the front door is deserves to have!Jan 05, 2026 -
Loved the variety of hardware and doors they had. We purchased some hardware for some small projects right now but we will definitely be returning for more! They were so welcoming and kind.

Lise and Sean are wonderful. I had a great experience picking out a sink for a retro remodel I am doing. I love their aspiration and objectives towards historic preservation and what they do to support it. Both are extremely friendly and knowledgeable, communication is top notch. I was very pleased to assist their efforts!

They are very responsive and helpful. I'm visiting Detroit to work on my properties and in need of a vintage door asap. They were able to identify my vintage door "style" and make recommendations plus referrals. I actually found them on Instagram using business chat. They were friendly, helpful and quick to respond. Great experience and definitely recommend for vintage home goods purchases and inquiries.

P.S. This review is because they DESERVE IT but please leave all the cute stuff for me. Please and thank you. ;-)Nov 17, 2024 -

This stores sliding scale price model makes restoring your homes original glory so affordable . Salvaging these unique and gorgeous fixtures, tiles, and much more is truly a labor of love for owners Sean & Lise, who whole heartedly salvage all of their inventory themselves. I love to check out their new arrivals weekly.

Great shop run by kind folks who are happy to nerd out about house details. Keeping unique stuff out of landfills and using a real sliding scale model (enough of a range that it really does make it possible to reach different brackets.) thanks for all the neat stuff you save!

This is the most inspiring shop! Architectural salvage can feel overwhelming when you’re digging through millions of pieces. Salvage Garden is small and extremely well curated and that’s its charm. Lise + Sean have a fantastic eye and everything is presented in such a beautiful way. What a gem of a place, and bravo to them for keeping these wonderful old doors, tiles, and amazing colorful sinks + toilets alive!

A perfect store in every way!! The staff/ owners were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. The selection and prices couldn't be beat even if you were to hit the antique mall jackpot. Look no further for the coolest toilets, sinks, and doors. One of the owners specializes in historic window restoration too!! I really can’t believe the perfection of this place!!!

Cannot say enough amazing things about salvage garden! Have gotten many items for my home from them including two bathroom sinks, tile, my kitchen sink, and my dreamy blue toilet. They are a vital resource in Detroit and I am extremely grateful to be a home owner/renovator while they are around. Community oriented and always looking out what is best for their neighbors. Besides helping me they also were the first people I sent my neighbor too after one of their family members vandalized their home by smashing out their windows.

Today was the 2nd time I've visited Salvage Garden. On my first trip I bought very nice old doorknobs for both of my bathroom doors. They were in great shape and there was a unique selection to select from. Today I purchased a very special wall tapestry that Im excited to hang in my house. The store owner helped me measure it and answered questions. It's fun learning the back story of where the store sources their items. The sliding scale pricing of all items is highly conscientious, considerate of the clientele, and demonstrates a commitment to accessibility and economic justice. 10/10. Go shop there.

Fantastic find for our 1939 home bathroom project. Owners are enthusiastic and passionate about preserving historical homes.

Salvage Garden is amazing. The owners both salvage and educate customers about reusing and rehoming quality wood doors, windows, and porcelain toilets and sinks.
They have sliding-scale pricing making salvage home goods more affordable and attainable for average Detroiters.Jan 04, 2024 -
Salvage Garden is an amazing store, they are doing such a service with their architectural salvaging. These are things that can not be recreated and shouldn't be sent to a landfill. They have a amazing selection of doors, toilets, sinks, and a bunch of hardware! Plus some window weights. The owners are amazing friendly and knowledgeable
