They have been doing work for me for eight years and have always done a great job. Chris the owner, is also the lead mechanic, the place has always been fair and honest with their estimates and repairs. The shop will work with newer or older vehicles alike. A great local small business.

The car repair expert that is honest, upfront with diagnosis (good or bad), My 2005 Ford Freestar van was a great vehicle for the 5 years that owned it, Chris was referred by my neighbor who spoke very highly as to his abilities to make required repairs especially when more than one was needed. Thanks to Chris Thayer, I enjoyed my van right up till it's final days of Michigan weather torment. ... Talked to him over the phone about some damage. We discussed sending him pictures to get an estimate. He said "Ill take a look at the pictures but ill probably have to see it in person." Three weeks later and absolutely no response. Message was also viewed by him after the first week or two.
This is a fantastic auto service ship, they were a big help in figuring out why my cadillac was shaking so bad at high speeds. He helped me out at a great cost and only took a day to figure out my issue. He will be seeing me again and be seeing family/ friends. (Plus he did extra work just because he thought it should be done, much appreciated!)
Had my Veloster Turbo with Chris after it went into limp mode on the freeway. Every diagnostic step he started with the cheapest thing first rather than jumping into the most expensive. He kept in contact while I waited for parts from Korea, and did everything possibly in the meantime to get it running smooth again. Very reasonable pricing, very good experience overall.

This place is my go to whenever my car needs fixing! Usually my car breaks down at the worst possible timing. Whenever this happens, I call Chris (he's even in my contacts as Chris auto guy!) I have family in Ohio and whenever I have plans to travel down there, my car would break down on a Thursday and I would have to head down on Friday night. Chris has always fitted my car into his busy schedule due to my desperation. He's always fast, efficient, and never tried to overcharge or fix things that aren't broken. In fact after getting my oil changed somewhere else and having the oil change place scare me on repairs, I took it to Chris to see if these repairs were really necessary and needed. He looked at my car and said no. He's a family man, so he treats me like a part of the family. He's passionate about his work since he's had so many years in the automotive industry, as well as rebuilding classic cars. My boyfriend went in to the front of his shop where Chris has his work displayed like a classic car museum. He's also honest which is a rare find! I had a car that got totalled in a rear end hit and run, my airbags deployed and he told me that it was totalled because of the airbags and that some might put the deployed bags back in the car for a fee however he wouldn't do it because it isn't safe or legal. He's my go to whenever I get into a jam.
Just another dishonest car mechanic. I’ve taken my car to Chris MANY times, he has been my go to since I bought my car 2 years ago. Each visit getting worse. My last visit consisted of a $19 part that I was charged $150 of labor for. This part was a quick and easy fix, you could actually see the piece behind the break pedal, disconnect it and reconnect the new part. My mom took her car to him out of desperation and he told her a fuse needed to be replaced. $350 later, come to find out from a cousin who works on cars, that fuse never needed to be replaced. He will scam you any chance he gets.
It took a little time to get my vehicle in for service but there was good reason. Based on the excellent service, great communication and fair pricing offered by Chris and his staff, they must be in big demand. I've been looking for a primary auto service location since moving to MI a few years ago. Finally, I believe I've found it. Auto repair is a skill, for sure, and should come with a price. However, Thayer's appears to believe that there is a fair price for what they do, enough to earn profit to stay in existence and grow, and to bring a reliable service to the customer who should come back again and again, when need arises. For any business, that repeat customer is far better than throwing money at advertising with coupons to attract someone else in the door. I will repeat at Thayer's and word from my mouth is already being spread. Thank you, Chris.
