Customer service is terrible. You can't connect to a representative to ask questions about your account. I wanted to ask about my bill. They've been charging me a fuel fee of $17-$19 per month. I have another account with them & was not paying that fee. I wanted to discuss it with them. I couldn't get a valid number to contact them. When I went to the support tab, after 15 minutes of searching, I finally found a number. I waited on hold for over 45 minutes and hung up. Then when I went online to cancel, it said I owed my fee plus it wanted to charge me 1.99 to use my credit card. When I submitted it, they charged me an extra $75 fee to pick up the trash cans. That was not stated ANYWHERE when I was canceling services. I will NEVER use them again. They are a rip off.

Extremely predatory company and not for the customer. Will add energy fees to your monthly bill at random, and charged over 100 dollars to cancel. If you live in Overland Park get your trash service from literally anyone else

I have to agree with some of the other negative reviews. We’ve been a customer for over 15 years and the quality of service has really declined since being taken over by Waste Management. They are late to pickup the cardboard then charge excessive fees when the dumpster is even a little over the rim. They also charge the fee when you stack the cardboard outside of the container. Environmental concerns: the amount of methane and other gases releases from the dump is a hazard to the community. The dump is over capacity and needs to be closed.

Came home today to another broken recycling receptacle due to the carelessness of the employees who picked up our trash today. Waste Management is HORRIBLE!!!! As a KCK resident we do not get a choice on who our trash service is with, we pay for it as part of our BPU bill monthly.

If you can avoid doing business with waste management, by all means, you’ll be better off. They won’t work with you. They’ll try to upsell you on bigger containers. They’ll charge you to lock your trash who was the steel trash people wanna dump trash in yours and then it gets overflow and then they want to charge you extra they just charge it on your bill without saying anything because God forbid you not pay that bill. They’ve been absolutely the worst trash company I’ve ever dealt with in my entire life.

Absolutely unable to reach anyone when service is missed, which happens frequently. There is no way to talk to a human and chat box doesn’t work. It shouldn’t be this hard!!!

Costs increased regularly without clear explanation. Al while massive discounts are available to anyone who calls in to cancel service. If those rates are available, they should be applied as standard rates automatically. Recently added a "convenience fee" for credit and debit card payments. Why am I now being asked to pay for this "convenience" that I had ennjoyed for free for years? Recently moved from weekly recylying picup to every other week. That is not enough. Our bin gets too full from only reciving service very other week. We have received several emails with photos scolfing us for having our bin too full. We have never filled it to a point that would cause an issue. This seems petty. Our bins would not have to be filled so full if service had not been curtailed. When I went to cancel for a different provider, I was hounded about anything they could do to keep me as a customer. I kept saying no. Informed them I had alrady started my new service with a competitor. Finally, I was informed they would be keeping any fees that had already been paid for service not yet rendered. I was also informed we would be charged $75 for collection of our bins. What a way to kick a customer on the way out the door. This totally put me at ease with ur decision to leave. Poor company that treats their customers liek trash. I suppose that is fitting.

Overall good service pricing is most important. I’m on a fixed income so the pricing is fairly good for what I get in retirement. Everybody gets different amounts, but it’s really kinda hard to make it no matter what it cost, but this has been the least inexpensive and good service that I have found. I just wish that Drivers would be more considerate and observe when trash falls out, they stopped and picking it up out of the street. It doesn’t happen all the time, but sometimes it does can’t help it sometimes. But that’s not all the time but when it does, I wish they’d be more considerate and pick the trash up that they miss putting into the truck itself overall good

Apparently unbalanced billing as neighbors all pay different amounts. Some have more services and yet somehow pay less. They are now billing additonal expenses anytime the cart lid isn't completely closed, which limits the amounts you can provide. For those of us that don't use yard waste, it would be desirable for this to be separate. The cost of service seems consistently on the rise.

Canceled 2 months ago was charged for that and picking up the cans and still trying to charge me the most crooked business out there i cant contact through the app because it's still being "canceled" but still trying to charge me

Receptionist lady at entrance was completely rude and mean. Very unpleasant experience with her. She was rude from the get go because we "missed the signs" and called us stupid. That lady should be fired. Company wanted to charge us $129 for a pick-up truck load of bulk items, when other places only charge $20.

Nickel and dimed my clients for the lid being partially open for their last trash pickup, WM charges a pickup fee for their bins as well. Most expensive trash service for the lenexa area, would not recommend.

This company is far too expensive for the quality of service they give you. Missed trash pickups, impossible to speak with someone if you call, they leave a bunch of trash in the street during pickups. After talking with other family members and friends about the cost we are cancelling service and switching to someone else. Do not go with WM for your trash services. ADD ON: our balance was at 0 after cancelling, the cancellation was over $80 which is absurd, and now money is getting taken out of our account after the balance said 0. Please don’t let this company play with your money.

Be careful about signing up with WM. Read the fine print very carefully. You could be signing up for a long term contract without realizing it because it's hidden in the fine print.

Cant get a hold of anybody. Just wanted to know what to do with a tree I am dropping and i cant get a hold of them. Will be putting concrete in my trash can until I get a call. Overland Park Kansas needs to drop them and do like Olathe with city run services.

Horrible customer service. I cancelled service and was charged a late fee even though I had a credit left on my account and was told that would be enough. I just got a COLLECTION letter for $27! Are you kidding me?! It probably cost more to chase it than to write it off as a good will. What a WASTE.

When I tried calling waste management about my missed trash pick up today I found that you cannot talk to a person nor can you report a problem on the phone. I was instructed to go to the website which I did. I have very, very poor vision so I tried repeatedly to get my problem addressed on the website and could not get it done because when I tried to chat. It kept cutting me off. I also had to login and create a password just to report a problem which I did. Then I managed to get enough information in Meaning my address and ZIP Code and the fact that my trash pick up was messed and it still wasn’t enough for them and they still sent me to a different part. I was never told that they would take care of it. I have worked with websites and software all my life and this one is terrible. It should be very easy for me to report a missed trash pick up. If I could find a phone number to call a senior member of with waste management I would but alas there are no phone numbers posted. Poor poor customer service

I scheduled a bulk pick up and it took over a week before it was collected. Calling every day to find out why it hadn't been picked up did no good. No one ever had a good answer but just kept repeating the same thing " you're scheduled for today ". It took submitting a complaint online for it to finally get resolved. Thank goodness I didn't get a citation from the City for as long as it took to get done. Just ridiculous.

Terrible company. Overage charges equal to monthly rental every time the lid doesn’t close completely. Will skip a pickup and charge overage after the dumpster goes two weeks without a dump and overfills. Find a local service and skip wm.

This is the 2nd time I have wrote a horrible review about Waste Management. They do not adhere by their schedule. Their website and messages are confusing and inaccurate. They do not employee people who you can call and speak with. Their AI chat is ridiculous. If you have your lid open just a tiny bit, they send you a picture and shame you, threatening to charge you $5. Even though they are not on time or on schedule. In July 2025 they have not picked up recycling on the assigned day twice. Keep in mind they only pick up every other week. So that means they have missed the ENTIRE month. They should credit customers everytime they mess up. I would have loved to speak to a customer representative, but I don't think they actually employee any. HORRIBLE. Never go with this company. I will be switching.

I really hate leaving bad reviews, but save yourself the headache. Their services have more than doubled over 3 years, they're adding exorbitant fees, and they miss pick ups regularly. They have canceled services for the entire week before with zero refund / discount to your bill despite paying for the monthly pickup. Calling the main line with direct you to go online. Once you're online the "support" is a hassle that will ultimately leave you to call another number. - am currently STILL on hold after 20 min. All in all, go with someone else for waste services. Anyone else.

Not only is this service more expensive, but the quality of service is lacking as well. After adding lawn waste pick up, they would refuses to pick it up for weeks. We would call they would say they didn't know why my trash was picked up and not my lawn waste. Had to wait another week for them to do the same thing. They requested an emergency pick up, just for the trash truck to pull in front of my house wait 3 mins and drive off, with out picking up my lawn waste. When I canceled my service, it took them 4 weeks to get the refund amount I was owed. Now it will take an additional 4-6 weeks to get my refund back. The automated system is horrible and its frustrating trying to get in contact with a representative. DON'T USES THIS SERVICE!

A WM truck hit the street powerlines and caused damage to our house electrical lines and siding. WM represented by Gallagher Bassett has refused all evidence and denies the accident. The police report called it a hit and run, which is a crime. Currently looking for lawyers. If you can help, please send me a message. update: Tonya tried to help. 2 months later, there's still no resolution. WM took my yearly service fee and sent me a "Notice of Suspended Service". I would not recommend this company to anyone. I've called customer service (and billing) 5 times, with an average hold time of 45 minutes to an hour, and no help.

The only reason they get a star is I couldn’t post with no stars. Rude customer service, horrible experience with their trash service. They said my truck (not my pickup and not in front of my property, and not really even that close) was blocking their driver therefore no service on our trash day. To get a special pickup next day they wanted $130 on top of my monthly fee and if the pickup truck was still there, I get charged another $130. I pointed out that earlier that day their recycling truck (same size truck) was able to pickup under the exact circumstances: “Well that’s a different driver and it’s up to each individual driver.” Rude customer representative after they failed on their offer to call me back, and I waited an hour on hold to talk to her the second time I called. 30 years as their customer and this is the treatment I get from WM and it’s what you can expect as well.

Waste Management lacks accountability for missed pick ups. They will miss your pick up for any reason they can think of. Say they will pick up weekly? They’ll maybe pick it up once a month if they feel like it. They will skip over entire streets for weeks in a row. Trash will be littered up and down the street before they arrive. When you call to tell them THEY missed service they offer NO recourse or remedy but instead they will ask you if YOU set it out soon enough. I am very sad and disappointed in the “service” I receive in 66103. Pick up our trash!!

2 times this week around 630-7am I have encountered a WM roll off truck entering the the highway 435 eastbound towards k10 and recklessly merging into traffic going 30mph crossing multiple lanes. It is obvious that the safety culture of the drivers and Waste Management isn't where it needs to be.

Wish I could leave zero stars. Poorly run company. Uncaring, weak leadership that employees inept managers that breed employees who don't care about doing their job. You ever try to get a resolution from them? No one to call after 5p or weekends. They push you through an automated phone menu. After minutes of pushing buttons and entering information, the message just states that they are closed. They direct you to the website. The help menu there directs you to report by chat. Chat also tells you they are closed and directs you to report a missed pickup by "submitting a request". Of course the missed pickup button is not on the website as described on the "how do I report a missed pickup" menu. I suspect they removed it due to being overwhelmed with missed pickup reports. During weekdays, the sales manager blames the route manager who blames his employees, usually an excuse like "not your usual route driver" or "new guy". Sometimes they blame the sales manager as well. Most often they just blame you because the driver lies to them about still being on their way or not having missed the pickup. Sometimes they say a car was blocking the entrance, or door didn't work, or someone told them it was not needed. List of fake excuses goes on and on. They have our business phone number and if any of these excuses are true, can be resolved in 30 seconds to ensure pickup. Weak managers don't resolve. Drivers then come back the next day (hopefully) and trash is overflowing so they charge you an excess trash fee. No one cares to resolve all of the above described issues. It certainly cannot be because they think they are doing a good job as a company and that these are infrequent issues. We all know that isn't true.
