Chittyville School Haunted House in
Herrin (IL)

One of the best haunted houses around. You can tell the actors and staff really care about their craft. They put on a terrifyingly good show, the digital line system lets you wait how you'd like instead of standing around forever, and the funnel cakes are a delicious snack to enjoy while you wait!

Unfortunately, my wife and I missed it last year. We went for the first time last night. Wow! Very well setup. Absolutely loved it. We had a blast. And yes, it was scary.

Came to this haunted school in 2014. Fast forward to 2023 and it's as good as I remembered only a little shorter in length. I really appreciate the set design which has you gripping the rails!

First time ever going and it was cool because my Dad actually went to school there at one time and my Grandpa worked there.

The actors did an awesome job. Really liked it. I think it's better than Talon Falls.

Was my kids first time and they loved it, definitely recommend and reasonably priced.

This haunt is awesome! Great people, amazing actors and really great detail throughout the entire haunt! Being a old school house from 1939 makes it even better. Get ready to be scared. Honestly, you'll probably have to go multiple times, because there's just so much to take it with all the awesome work they put in this place to make it really scary. Keep it up! Put it on your list to visit this haunt this year, you won't regret it.

No pics, but a fun & challenging time. Poor guy had to deal with a bunch of goofy seniors, but we finally rocked it with time to spare!

The actors were very scary and I really enjoyed, they had fun with the whole group I was in and still made it scary at the same time, it was even better the second time I went

We had a great time! Maybe not the scariest, but the group with us definitely made it seem like it should have been! Lol! Been here before, will go again!

I love chittyville just history for the outsiders this started ambitiously as a major attraction to rival talon falls and over the years lost most ambition. It's now almost all teenage actors having fun which is fine just not nearly as scary as the first years. Still very fun and the text your turn in line is Wonder. very fun, but mostly kid actors

The people were nice and helpful. As for the scary factor, this year I personally thought it was not really scary as previous years, it could have been better. There were some occasional screams from the other people attending.

If your looking for a family outing. Filled with good laughs and teamwork. Try the escape rooms. We tried the Detention Room. Had a blast trying to escape the room in the dark. We did it with one minute left. They have two other rooms with the lights on. Going to try them another time. Thanks for a good fun filled time.

They have some of the best pizza in Carbondale, the service is some of the best I ever had and if your put on hold there slogan is very catchy.

It wasn't good. People were dressed in very obviously cheap outfits and some scarers weren't even dressed up. Would not recommend.

I really wanted to like this. The school is a huge haunted house, which I did enjoy, probably the largest I've ever been to. Some of the rooms were cool and overall there was a lot of decorations. However, there were a total of 6 actors in the haunted house and even less in "The Lair". One of the staff members told me that they were severely understaffed for the night, which I understand. I'm just disappointed that we weren't told in advance. This place has potential to be a really good haunt when it's staffed properly.

Love this place. Been going every year for.what seems like forever. The owners are amazing, the cast of actors are great. Always a good haunt. Lots of variety in it every year. If you get turned around, the actors will guide you back in the right direction if you need help. Very fun place. Even my 10 yr old loves it. She has gone with me for a few years now. The best money spent on a local haunted attraction. Always choose to support your local businesses.

The school was cool they could use some better makeup though, The lair was just? the only reason is becuse 3 of the people had no make up or mask. The escape rooms were AWSOME! Chittyville would be a great place for kids to start

We went on clown night and while waiting in line the clowns were scaring everyone! Very fun and the school was well worth the wait!

Would give 0 stars if I could. Waited 3 hours. Not worth anyone's time. Everybody was horrible at scaring, they didn't even try. They yelled at people in line for barely touching ropes. It sucked. Waste of the entire night.

Amazing experience, my gf and I had a blast. Spend the extra $5 for the fast lane!

We had such a great time! There are two "haunts" to choose from. We picked the school one the first go around. We're thinking about trying the lair next time. I highly recommend Chittyville to anyone looking for a fun time with friends and/or family. It's also an historic site. The school was built by the WPA during the New Deal!

fun a little scary me and my friend had such a great time wouldnt reccomend for younger children they might get scared it was so fun and i hope other people will go its the best

The length was good but not scary at all,there were not enough people to even scare.So not worth the drive.
