The Towing company. Explain national below is a complete lie.
Yes we took it to our mechanic in Mississippi before we headed off on vacation to Wisc. Iillinois. 5 hrs from our home it quit working. We called our mechanic n he say he would give us a credit..if we had it repaired up north there. Which we were trying to do. We had no idea what was wrong. Bc we trusted them to diagnose it at Mike's which they didnt do. They just recharged it n left us in the same spot as before we went there. Then suddenly when we returned they diagnosed a $ 1000 repair.
Well if it wasn't leaking according to them the first day then how did it suddenly start leaking n they found it ..on the return.
Seemed sketchy is the reason we didnt have them fix it bc we didnt trust them at that point.
So don't believe them I have no reason to lie....but they do. It cost me $360. They didnt do anything we didnt pay for..
Zero stars would be better
They charged us 360.00 on on our rv to check for a/c leak and recharge it but just recharged it and didnt even look for leaks at all.
So we had same problem when left as we did when it started
We told them there was a leak bc we had it charged and it leaked out ...BUT THEY CHOSE TO DO A QUICK CHARGE N NOT CHE K FOR THE LEAK
WE RETURNED THE NEXT DAY ALL GAS IN A/C LEAKED OUT
Then they suddenly looked for leaks and found a$ 350 co dser was kneading and would cost quite a bit to replace..upwards of 500.00 1200.00
Incompetent to say the least
Wont refund our money
I can see why they had a 3 star rating which is more than they deserveJul 31, 2026 -
Yet another service with a smile interaction.
Diane really helped us out late on a Friday to get some stuff out of my daughter's totaled vehicle. She even let me borrow some tools to get the plates off.
It seems like they have a great full service operation there. Well we only had a car towed. I definitely will keep them in mind for future needs.Apr 04, 2026 -
Had my Pick Up Truck towed over here. When I went to get items out of my truck it seems as if they went through my items . Most importantly though, these people strive to rip anybody off that comes here instead of giving people a fair price. Obviously they do not care about return business rather they choose to take full advantage if they can. They will try to charge the absolute maximum and then some for any job. The poor lady at the front counter I don’t even think knows what’s going on here. The owner with his grinch smile trying to steal all of your money. Makes me sick. I would never even think about recommending this place to even my worst enemy.

Gosh, these people really enjoy kicking people who are already down on their luck. $645 from a tow to Jewel to here?!? How do you sleep at night????? Avoid this business if you can. Awful.

It’s been nearly a year since my husband and I brought our RV to this location for general engine maintenance and our experience was so bad, I still feel compelled to write this review. I would give them zero stars if I could.
We bought a used 2019 Gulfstream Conquest at the start of 2025. We called a couple places looking for general motor work and inspection and were eventually recommended Mike’s Towing in Wacanda. We called the location and scheduled an appointment for Thursday of the following week, but then called back in and rescheduled for Wednesday of the following week. We dropped the RV off the Tuesday night before our appointment.
Wednesday and Thursday go by without any calls from the business to advise of estimate. We finally call on Friday to see what gives and they tell us they’re essentially finishing up and don’t yet have an estimate on price. This was concerning considering they don’t work weekends and we were trying to leave for our first campground the next Monday. We get a call from a technician after hours on Friday who insinuates the work on the RV is basically done and do we want to replace our tires as they’re fairly worn. We tell the guy we don’t even know what the cost of repairs are as no one has told us anything. He gives us a rough estimate of $1200, and given that this was below our budget for repairs we agree to replace the tires as we already knew we needed to at some point in 2025.
Monday comes around and we still don’t hear from the place for several hours, which continues to be concerning as we still needed to de-winterize the vehicle. Mike’s Towing finally calls us only to explain they hadn’t actually been close to finishing the vehicle last Friday - they couldn’t figure out how to fix our turn signal (a known issue) and needed us to approve more labor on the vehicle. We agree to two more hours, they do four without calling back to verify. The owner promises to take off some of the labor time, but when all was said and done? $3800 - over $2000 more BEFORE they asked us to add tires that we would've declined had we known our vehicle wasn’t done. And on top of that, once we get the RV back, there are mechanical issues. An overhead light won’t turn off so we have to take the light bulb out. Our radio no longer gets signal, only blutooth works. What in the world did they do while digging around in there?
And the kicker - we pay for the vehicle with a credit card in a rush as we’re late to get to our campground. Two days later, we see a charge come in for $4200. $400 more than our invoice!!! When we called them, they explained “well you paid with a credit card, and there’s a surcharge” and no one thought to tell us this either upfront or at the time of payment!? And the final price with surcharge wasn’t stated on the invoice? When we say that, the guy asks “well could you have even paid in cash?” Ridiculous. He offers to refund us the surcharge if we return and pay in cash but guess what? We’re in another state, pissed off for ever having brought our vehicle to Mike’s.
So if you have the opportunity? Don’t do it. I wouldn’t bring my car let alone a larger vehicle. If they didn’t know how to work on an RV, why accept the appointment? Questions I still ask myself.Jan 27, 2026 -
After being t-boned in Grayslake, Mike's Towing was called by the responding Lake County Sherrif to tow my disabled truck away. It was a horrific accident. In fact, the at fault driver who hit me ended up passing away in the hospital the next day as a result of her injuries.
I begged the driver to let me come and collect my possessions out of the truck. I had a bunch of camping gear I needed for a trip we had planned for the next day. The driver refused to give me a lift, but he said if I could get to the tow lot within 30 minutes, he would stay so I could get my things. I called the office less than 10 minutes later to tell them I was on my way, but was told very rudely I would have to come in the morning. I told them what the driver said and explained I live over an hour away and needed the gear for our trip the next day, but they refused to help me.
The next day I arrive to find someone stole my $250 Gerber hunting knife from my truck. I told the guy who escorted me back in the lot that the knife was missing and he couldn’t care less, so I called the Wauconda police to report the theft. When the police arrived, the owner, Mike came out and basically called me a liar. I think he assumed I made the story up because I was upset about how his company treated me the day before. He even asked one of the officers if they could charge me with falsifying a police report. Although I was upset about how they had treated me, I would never do such a thing. To be called a liar by the tow lot owner after having my very expensive knife stolen on his property was just adding insult to injury! What sort of business owner blames their customer without even investigating a potential crime committed very likely by his own employee? Mike at Mike's Towing does!
I had no choice but to use Mike's Towing, but if you can avoid them, I highly recommend doing so. The entire team at Mike's is at best very unprofessional, but at worst, they are literally criminals. All one needs to do to get a feeling for how Mike's does business is read the replies Mike writes to his negative reviewers. That says it all. Stay away!Dec 23, 2025 -
I’ve been coming to Mike’s towing for safety lane inspections for quite some time now and Sue is just such a wonderful person! She’s quick, efficient, and talks you through the whole process. Everyone else at this business is also just as caring and helpful. Absolutely love this establishment and would highly recommend!!!

If I could put 0 stars, I would. Mikes Towing in Wauconda towed my car at the scene of an accident, gave me a card with only their address and number and then left. Did not say anything about prices or getting my car back. I called them the next day, not even 12 hours later, and asked if I could pick up my car. They said I couldn’t pick it up unless my insurance company said I could. My insurance company was not paying for the tow therefore it is not their decision. So I went at my next available day, which was 4 days after my accident (2 of those days being Saturday and Sunday) and they wanted to charge me $500 additional to the $250 for the basic tow. So $850 total. They said that it was because it was $100 a day (INCLUDING WEEKENDS - WHICH THEY ARE CLOSED ON). No one made me aware of the daily storage prices, and I spoke with them TWICE before this. This place is a huge scam, they want to take advantage of people’s money when they know that these people are already under a lot of stress - considering most of the time a car is towed is because of accident. The last thing people are thinking about after a horrible car crash is when to get the car at a towing place. If you read all the bad reviews, Mike’s towing would rather gaslight you than take accountability for their horrible management and scams. All the horrible reviews are 100% true because I experienced these people firsthand.

Terrible company to do any business with. They sold me a defective part in their parking lot, telling me they have nothing to do with it and not giving any money back. Keep away from these crooks

My truck catched on fire and all my sensors and wires burned because they cut the battery cable. My transmission line was leaking so called to get towed. Guy didn’t want to get on the ground and get dirty so just connected the chains not realizing the Chain grabbed the battery cable. When we got back to my shop and he let it roll down cable was cut and moved and started to spark with the chassis and my truck ignited and catched on fire. Driver was in a huge rush to leave after that. I didn’t know the cause of it in the moment. He charged me and left and didn’t even put down his name on the receipt or anything.

My car was stolen. I live in Wauconda and the police found my car in Waukegan. Mikes towing charge was usually $250 but, they charged me $450 because they had to leave town. $200 extra to drive a couple towns over. I feel like I was robbed twice.

I don't recommend this company at all, because is this normal for a towing company to charge 800 dollars for a wreck that happened 5 miles away?

They did a great job getting my car towed after an accident. Issue I had were hours of operation make it hard to get there if you work, something before 8am or after 4pm would go a long way. Also while vehicle was in their secure impound lot I had personal property disappear.
