Eric and his team at Hugh's Riverside Automotive are hands-down the best mechanics in Jacksonville. We especially like working with Jeremy in the front office. They will arrange pick-up or drop-off service if you need it, which is fantastic. The shop is one of the best I've ever been around I've always done for 45 years my own mechanic work 98% of the time I had an issue with a sensor ended up being fuel pump related talked to gentleman at this facility he said we could do just it with no problem but I mentioned about it being the age on it that we should do the whole thing and he agreed he went ahead and got me a quote I was absolutely surprised I had called around same as him I got a price that was ridiculous and he told the person that and he called around and got me a better price told me I didn't need to have work done on some other thing I was thinking I did very honest straightforward will do you the best that anybody in town will if I have to have any other work done this is where I will have it done thank you for being
From out of state when my AC unit got stuck on heat. Full blast blowing 84° in 96° weather. So miserable! Eric kindly worked me in and quickly repaired the problem for 1/3 what the dealership quoted me. Johnny drove me to a nearby restaurant while I waited, then picked me up after. He even found an awesome local radio station for my vehicle. I was an out of town stranger and these men treated me like I was a good friend. Took exceptional care of me and my vehicle! I cannot recommend highly enough.
My boyfriend and I brought our cars here for servicing before our cross-country move, and the experience was fantastic. I really wanted this to be my local repair shop. Unfortunately Hugh’s has the best problem a shop can have, too many clients. I made the mistake of attempting to bring in a $10 coolant bleeder to be replaced while I was having some engine issues. I could tell they were annoyed I bought the part myself and didn’t want to deal with me if it had issues down the road, which is understandable. My main issue was when I received the estimate to fix my Q60 issue idling. They quoted me $1900 to replace six injectors, install my provided coolant bleeder, and flush the coolant.The quote had 6 injectors at $160 a piece. A whole set of six on any reputable parts site is only $300. Either they can’t get reasonable parts, which I highly doubt given their workload. Or they decided I wasn’t worth dealing with and they were going to rip me off or get me to leave. Paid a $220 diag fee which included $20 of shop supplies, which I found odd for what was done. I had my car fixed myself in less than an hour with a single $50 OEM Hitachi injector. Including their overpriced diag I spent $280 to fix what they quoted me $1900. I have a good friend that’s used them for years and their prices are fair when I’ve seen his invoices. These guys are clearly good, just hope they like you or they’ll have no qualms about ripping you off. I’ll keep going to my trusted mechanic on the other side of town, worth the drive for honesty.
Friendly and fair service. I was broken down on this side of town and someone I ran into told me to go here. The owner explained what was wrong with my car and showed me the part that was needed, along with the cost. I even got a courtesy ride home and pick up when my car was ready. I highly recommend this place if you need a service for your vehicle.
Initial interaction was ok, I was greeted as I entered. Eric’s questions were thorough and inquisitive, leading me to believe I’m leaving my car in great hands. When all was said and done they provided a ride back home and I am more than grateful for that alone. They diagnosed my car rather quickly, dropped it off around 8-9 and it was ready by 2. Where I’m saddened is the cost of labor. I needed two motor mounts replaced and the total was $1500! That’s insane! The labor alone is 1000! From previous replacements, motor mounts should be no more than 2-4 hours in labor! 250 an hour is bananas. I’d like to support these guys as they seem like good people, however I can’t afford the cost to be the boss.
I had already been to two shops. Both were unable to accurately troubleshoot the poor running condition with my 1988 Honda. I was beginning to lose hope. I then took it to Hugh's. After talking to service manager/owner Eric, I began to have hope. These cars can be very difficult to troubleshoot. They found a wiring issue that I wouldn't have found in a million years. The car now runs great. I would not hesitate to recommend to family and friends.
Addendum- I own two vintage foreign cars (Porsche and Alfa Romeo). My string of good luck ended when the 86 Alfa Spider's transmission recently required rebuilding. I could have taken it to any transmission shop but I had no idea who was capable and trustworthy. I let Eric handle everything. He knew who could do the job. He handled pretty much everything. It was a win-win for me. The transmission shop wants to please Eric and Eric wants to please me.
Amazingly the exact same situation just occurred again This time it was the transmission on my 82 Porsche 911 (Hey - they're both over thirty years old!). And once again Eric knew a local shop that specializes in Porsches.
I would have never found them The car now runs great and with a two year warranty no less.
There doesn't seem to be much that Eric can't handle.

Highly recommend! The team here is incredibly kind and efficient—they had my car fixed in no time! I really appreciated their thoughtfulness in offering a ride to my workplace at 7:30 AM and picking me up at 3 PM to collect my car. It made my day so much easier! Plus, they focused on exactly what needed fixing without trying to upsell me on anything extra. If you’re looking for honest service and a smooth experience, this is the place to go!
Honest Mechanics!
My Husband dropped our car off because it wasn’t starting. We were starting to have problems with it ( 2011 car) and decided to get it towed to Hughes. To our surprise… they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. They asked to keep the car a few days longer just to be sure, but the prognosis remained the same.
It goes without saying that this Auto Shop could’ve told us ANYTHING just to get a sell but they didn’t. It was a blessing that we came across this shop. In 2024 it’s hard to find honest businesses and people! This place remains in business because of their skill set as well as how they choose to treat people. Hands down one of the best auto shops in Jacksonville!
If you choose to take your vehicle anywhere besides Hugh's Riverside Automotive, then you're doing a huge disservice to yourself and your ride. These guys are by far the best at what they do. And you'll get nothing but amazing customer service, the most knowledgeable mechanics and most importantly, you'll get only the absolute truth (no matter how hard it might be to hear).
As a military member who moves every few years, it’s always a challenge to find a good auto shop after I move to a new town. Luckily some friends told me about Hugh’s and I am so grateful. I’ve gone to them several times already and each time I’m extremely impressed. They are honest, fair priced, and are great to work with. I highly recommend them!!
Had an engine light come on. I checked the dipstick and it was low but I could not get the fill cap on the engine unscrewed. Stopped here on the fly to get assistance.
The gentleman in the office could not have been more helpful. Got the oil in and refilled my spare quart and refused any payment I offered. You don’t find people like this any more. I WILL be back for scheduled service when needed. Thanks again!

I tried to get an estimate. Did not have my vin and they refuse to give an estimate if you do not have the vin.
The person that took my call was rude, and exasperated that i don't have my vin on lock.
She started off the conversation as though I was going to be a problem customer.
We ended the call with "I won't be doing business with you."
I know this place comes highly recommended, but I'm not going to take my car to a company that treats potential clients like they are the problem...before they even have my car.
These people were so nice! Even peanut (the little doggy, who really does look like a peanut) was super friendly and welcoming! Gives me the vibes of the old school car repair places. I went and asked if they could put air in my tires, mind you the weather was awful.. Anyways I’ll definitely be back to see them.
Hugh’s is a wonderful family own business! I took my car in for two different issues and they were both fixed in a timely fashion. Will continue to take any and all my vehicles here.
These people do excellent work. They’re honest and upfront about everything, taking the time to make sure you understand, providing clear and helpful estimates before the work. I’ve brought three different vehicles to them and each time they’ve charged less than what was estimated by other shops. They’ve even come to my workplace to pick up a set of keys from me, saving me a trip. Eric is a great guy maintaining a high standard of integrity; I don’t think I’ll be going to any other shop anytime soon.

I have been using these guys for years now to do work and maintenance on all my vehicles. It’s run by a very professional and friendly man and his wife, they make a great team. They have a lot of bay doors in the building with certified mechanics that do a great job. I have never had a problem with anything they’ve done, and if I would have had a problem, they stand behind their work (very honest). If you need a ride when dropping off your car they have a driver with a nice clean company vehicle that will take you where you need to go, and they’ll pick you up when your vehicle is finished if needed. They are very punctual and get it done faster then any place I’ve been. I honestly wouldn’t take any of my vehicles anywhere else.
I normally do majority of work on my vehicles. Especially my 02 Ranger (my baby) Lately I've had to rely on some of the local shops to help me with the work. Hugh's came highly recommended from the engine builder I used. They definitely didn't disappoint. Eric (owner) was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was straight with me and knew exactly how to fix the problem with the transmission lines that I was having issue with. Great job. If I'm ever in a bind or just want proffessional help, I'll be back here.
I have to give the people at Hugh's Riverside five stars, two thumbs up. On a busy day when I called to see if they could fit me into their busy schedule they realized I had a serious problem and I was able to bring my car in car service. I dropped my car off their driver brought me home they took care of my issues the driver picks me up. They took care of everything that I needed done to my car they were courteous and pleasant and if you'd like dogs they've got some sweeties in the office. Thanks so much guys to really saved my day
I needed an estimate for my dodge ram and a diagnoses for the noise. The staff was very freindly, they picked up the phone right away, they offered to drive me home when my truck was in the shop, and offer some beverages. Very nice locals and I will be back!
Hugh's has been wonderful to our family. They always do great, quality work and explain why the work needs to be done. They also will provide a drop off and pick up service so that repairs can be done and so that I do not have to inconvenience others with rides etc. The staff are very knowledgeable, honest and consistent. We have been customers now for several years and have been very pleased!
