Go with a different company! They keep raising prices and still charge a fuel surcharge when I was originally told they'd remove it when gas went below $3.75. They don't take yard waste. And worst of all, they only take recycling every other week. And when they randomly decide not to take recycling during your scheduled week, you have to wait a month between recycling pickups. All the trash men have been so nice, but the company is terrible. I pay $100 quarterly, but never can be sure they'll actually do their pickups as scheduled. Go with anyone else!

If you use this company, hope you never need to call to talk to the office, some of the most miserable people I’ve had the displeasure of doing business with. Luckily I’m up for renewal shortly and will happily shop for other service.

The Blus Hen company is reliable, and they communicate well when there are possibly inclement weather conditions for pickups. The next time when drive down your community streets compare how many Blue Hen trash and recycle bins are set out for pick up to the other five or six trash companies that circle Kent Island!! Go find something else to complain about or take your trash to your local transfer station yourself.

I have received twenty years of excellent service. The office staff is consistently kind, polite, and helpful. I always have some ridiculous question, or in the case of this year, missed my yearly bill. Today, Linda was very supportive and demonstrated outstanding customer service. Our interaction was quick, and I felt authentically valued. The truck drivers are always generous with waves and smiles. The bins are carefully managed, and neatly placed after pickup. Year after year, Blue Hen, has provided outstanding trash management. I confdntly recommend, Blue Hen, their excellent staff and service.

Have thrown away our trash bins and didn’t say anything until I noticed they were gone and then lied and said they threw them away cause someone “hit” them. Also surprised they keep raising “fuel surcharge” even though gas prices have leveled out or gone down which no longer justifies a fuel surcharge. The have skipped my house all together and had to call them to come out a couple times . If you can go elsewhere do so , I don’t expect perfection but I do expect effort and honesty

Blue hen waste disposal service is horrible. It's been over 2 weeks since they picked up my garbage and recycling. I called on numerous occasions about the non pickup of my garbage and recycling. Their service is so bad I am in Hot pursuit Of another disposal service.

They will tell you lies just to get you off the phone. My trash bin was missed on last Monday and was told that a courtesy pick up would be done by Thursday. They did not show up. I called twice on Friday and was promised that they will come by the end of the day. I called back about 4:00 as noone came and Lin advised that the Route Manager advised that they are now coming on Saturday as they are running routes on Saturday. By the way, Lin does not need to be answering anyone's phone. She's rude, doesn't have any professionalism, she cuts you off while speaking, and she hung up on me. I called back and asked for a supervisor, she said I could not speak to anyone as noone was there and that would be Wendy, then spelled her name out like I can't spell and being smart...the same as what she did for her name. Just horrible customer service. Hopefully, my account will be credited as I knew there would be a delay today too, due to the snow. I will be looking for a new service provider as this was so unacceptable. I feel sorry for anyone who calls into this place and gets Lin. The other young ladies were nice even though the service wasn't provided. Hopefully, they'll come tomorrow!!!

Real classy, Blue Hen! I received this hanger on my trash can for the sin of leaving slightly more trash than normal. The fact that this is after they failed to pick up my trash the previous week in addition to all the assorted detritus from Christmas. Unbelievable.

After calling the office today to figure out why my recycling hadn’t been picked up at 11 AM when it typically is picked up at 6 AM (the last 7 years it has been this time) I was told that it was because the driver hadn’t got to my road yet… Then when I go to retrieve my recycling bin and check my mail, I get two nasty notes written from the delivery driver about my can being halfway down my driveway and not to call the office… Excuse me, but I’m a paying customer. I have every right to call the office and ask questions if I choose. I feel extremely violated and I’m extremely upset at the unprofessionalism of the truck driver today. Don’t get mad at me because your dispatcher lied. The dispatch the dispatcher did try to help on the phone today, but she sounded like she was a temp because she couldn’t even locate my account and like I said I’ve been a paying customer with this company for almost 7 years

Mr. Gray is the BEST TRASH MAN we have ever had. He is more than a great trash man, he is a good human. He sees my toddler son looking out the window and waves. Sometimes he honks the horn. He passes out Christmas cards (which is above and beyond) AND he even brought my son a toy for Christmas! I hope Blue Hen is taking good care of him. He needs a raise!

After an elongated cancellation process with WM, Bernice walked me through the new customer signup with extreme professionalism. Delaying my start time until after my WM service agreement was over. Well Done Bernice.

Blue Hen has a great customer service rep. I just spoke with customer Service Rep Tiara. She handeled my call perfectly. She was efficient, helpful, professional, and an excellent communicator.

8/8/25 the past couple of weeks has been uneventful, until today. Since they have not been stopping in front of our home proves that yes they can dump and compact in other places. Today however they decided to honk their horn as they went by our house. The company all the way down to the employees are special. 6/11/25 the town spoke to route manager he states they have to watch wires and trees when dumping. Since when are wires and trees in the middle of the street. By the way we don't have any of those things in our development. 4/30/25 Update: Another recycle week another stop in front of our house. Your driver does this twice every other week.We are not customers! Drive to the next customer or do it at your last pick up. There is zero reason to stop in front of a non customer to compact like that NONE! UPDATE: Every other week without fail, even though we actually have less Blue Hen users in our neighborhood (1 customer down our part of the street from the 3 or 4 previously), the recycle driver is still stopping in front of our house to empty the dumpster bin and compress. This is rediculous and been happening for far too long. Here is a suggestion... Empty and compress at your last stop or your next stop. Again today twice today, and absolutely NO reason for the driver to come back down our road since he already picked up the 1 customer left, he stopped in front of our house to dump and compress. After about 9 years and constant phone calls to Blue hen to see if they would amend their trash pickup times in our development (4 -5 am) and were told on several occasions that they would amend it. We finally had to go to the town and have them amend our trash pickup times. Since then, blue hen does come later in the day. Usually early afternoon. However, for the last 12+ months coming and going down our street they stop in front of our house usually for five plus minutes and do absolutely nothing and or dump the trash into the back and still sit there for a while. Basically just having a loud truck sitting in front of the house. Normally I wouldn't think anything of it but since it happens almost on a bi-weekly basis and I work from home and it's very distracting to have a very loud truck like that just sitting in front of your house either revving an engine dumping trash etc when I would think it would make more sense to pull up to your next pickup location and do what you need to do there. We have less neighbors that have blue hen now as they've gotten rid of them. So literally we only have two pickups on our street. I have videos almost on a weekly basis of them. Just sitting in front of my house doing nothing which is also interesting. They don't seem to do it if my husband's car is in the driveway. Doing it once in awhile would be one thing but when it's a weekly basis it's not okay. Blue hen. Have your drivers pull up to their next stop and do whatever it is that they need to do instead of sitting in front of a house that doesn't have your service.

Blue Hen has gone and above any waste disposal service I’ve ever used. My fantastic driver, Kevin is amazing! I appreciate him, very much. That is not an easy job, with so many gross, rude and disgusting people out there. Don’t forget the good people that take of care of you! They’re awesome and I thank you all 💚

This Has been dependable and it is incredibly disheartening to find out that a trash day was changed automatically. Nobody told us shit. Nobody notified us. Hey don’t park your work truck in front of the dumpster because instead of coming Friday morning between eight and 9 o’clock or whatever it was, it was after 6:30 AM every Friday and it was before 12 o’clock every Friday dependable and then we go to today. I’m told they were here Wednesday morning at 4 o’clock IN THE MORNING. No one told us it would be changed. No one told us to make sure the dumpster was available and to add to it. I called them on Tuesday morning to ask if I could get an extra pick up because we missed it Friday. My husband’s work truck was in the way I called them. We know we did it. Could we pay for an extra? Moped or hey, could you hit us if you come earlier nothing to find out today no one‘s coming and they changed our day and told me nothing so I have a full dumpster that stinks. Thank you. I’m glad you got your payment. Doubt I’ll ever get a callback today

Update number 2: I sincerely apologize for my misunderstanding. I was grossly misinformed by someone who told me that blue hen trucks were picking up trash today. I'll give a call tomorrow, and fix this review. Update: I apologize for the phone issue - my phone did restart a few minutes ago. If possible to try again please do. Thank you so much for replying! I am having quite a bit of trouble trying to contact someone at this company. Apparently, there is an issue with our recycling bins not being picked up that I would like to address with you guys; I also have several other questions but when I call your phone number it hangs up immediately after your message and does not allow me to leave my contact information. Please respond to this review or check your messages on the website so I can get some answers please. I would love to adjust this review, but as of right now this is my reading.

Just moved into the state, ordered a bulk pickup (which costs $75) for a bunch of dismantled metal and wood shelves/cabinets and some other stuff that was left in the garage from the prior owner. Woman on the phone who i spoke to really didn't sound like she knew what she was doing, but, she told me “next thursday theyll pick it up.” Thats today and everything is still lying in my driveway. My wife called them and they said “we see you called, we see you paid, but there was no pickup scheduled”. So now i have to spend another 30-45 minutes dragging these heavy ass items back into my garage, and im out of town next week and my wife cant lift this stuff to bring it back out into the driveway next week so i have to wait another 2 weeks before they HOPEFULLY pick it up? Moral of the story, this was really inconvenient, shoulda just sent another truck and picked it up same say. Ill be getting my money back and finding someone else to pick it up, suggest anyone doing a bulk pickup up to give the 75 EASY dollars to someone else to do it.

I hate giving low stars for a service I’m still using but cmon BH Waste. Yall got to do better. Plus I’m about ready to pay more to the competition and get better service 1. They don’t get out the trucks for ANY REASON. 2. Recently a driver skipped my house entirely bc my can was on the grass strip at the curb of the street. Instead of the actual street (18 inches off mark) and now 3. They cancelled my routes collection for the week all bc it snowed 1 day during the week. Office said we can leave overflow trash on ground next to cans. See picture below for how they left my cans and spilled trash Their price steadily increasing and service quality steadily decreasing

EDIT: After I called back with the owner’s response, I was put through to a manager who did offer a $3.50 credit and told me that extra bags could be left next to my can next week. This is not what I was told by the first representative I spoke to, but I appreciate the conflict resolution. ___________________ Blue Hen cancelled service because of inclement weather (pickup on Tuesday), but others were picked up later in the week. I called and asked for a simple $8-10 credit. That’s the weekly cost of service. I was told no credits would be applied to those who weren’t serviced, but that I could go buy a can from Lowe’s and put out a second can next week. So more money out of my pocket. I didn’t get to miss work this week for inclement weather. If you can’t make it out on the scheduled day, and you can’t offer credits, then offer to pick up on a different day. Telling me to go buy an extra trash can is not the solution for good customer service… especially with their continually increasing prices. Service has always been good prior to this, but it only takes one poorly mishandled situation to lose customers. I’m willing to edit this review if Blue Hen is willing to offer me a credit or add a pickup day my schedule. All this without mentioning the ‘fuel surcharge’ that has been on accounts for going on 2 years now. This company is ridiculous.

There’s not enough amazing things I can say about this company. From great communication, drivers who go above and beyond, reasonable rates, it’s just exceptional service. I appreciate their staff and all their hard work! Thank you Blue Hen. Happy Holidays! Just as an example, the regular drivers for my route are Frank, for garbage and Omar for recycling. Who we adore! They know that my neighbor is elderly and recently lost her husband. They actually stop, and get out of their trucks to walk her cans back to her house for her. It’s beyond heartwarming to see them take the time out of their route to do this for her. They are truly an example of going above and beyond.

i used to have the nationwide "green can" company and hated them. missed pickups, smug customer service agents and termination fees. I then went to Blue Hen. Absolutely LOVE them. their office staff is always courteous and if a pick up is missed because my can blows over into the ditch and they don't see it, they let me know when a truck is coming back through so they can pick it up. My can was getting a little beat up but still served its purpose so i didn't think anything of it. When i got home from work on pickup day i saw that they not only emptied the can but they replaced it with a brand new one! without me even asking! i get calls reminding me when pickup will be delayed a day due to a holiday week and i've never had any issues with them! Great company to deal with!

Today i called with a question and left with a problem and a different trash service. I have had blue hen for over a year now and have never really had issues until this month. I place my trash and recycling in the same spot as I always do and it is always close to the road bc I'm not dumb and would like my trash taken. My trash has been getting picked up fine, however this month my recycle wasn't picked up at all this month. I have kept it outside in the same spot ALL MONTH LONG. After this week I finally decided to give them a call, i asked if there was additional cost for recycling and the woman otp pulled up my file and wasn't sure why it wasn't being taken and went to speak with the guy on my route. After minutes on hold she comes back and tells me that the guy said he hadn't seen my can out there until this week. Had she asked the trash service he would've said my recycle has been out there all month. So now I'm a liar, okay. Then she says the guy has a picture and he didn't take the can this week bc it's next to a phone poll and is 5 feet away from the road. Interesting. Again, not correct and my trash can was actually closer to the telephone poll than my recycle so that didn't make sense. Also, again im not an idiot the can is feet away from the poll. Not only am I concerned that this man "took a picture" of my cans/house and didn't insert it in my file or mention it until it was brought up to him, but I would also like this photo emailed to me. I won't be paying close to $100 for a service that A. Can't notify me about any issues they were having with picking up my cans considering my pick up day was YESTERDAY "at 4 in the morning" even if what he said was true about not being able to get to it and B. Isn't a truthful service that holds their employees accountable, takes pictures of my house allegedly and would rather be lazy liars. So I guess they thought that if they weren't going to take accountability that I was going to. Unless I've been hallucinating the entire month my cans are where they always are when they need to be picked up. And since they haven't been taken all month they've been there all month. Bc why would I put it back by my house when it's full and cant be used?? Must be a new guy, but that's wild lmao. Would've been one thing if I just wasn't notified but it's another to lie on my name as if I don't walk by the eye sore every day for the last month and drive by it to get my kids to school and myself to work. But thats big corps these days ig. EDIT TO ADD FOR O COMMENT : thank you for correcting me on being a local service. The billing note, does that mean that the recycle is no longer included in the bill that I've been paying? If so, why was i not notified of the change? And I would still like the photo sent to my email please. No need to have them serviced, just taking them back is fine. Thank you! Edit to add : the issue was never the cost for trash or recycling service. Nor did i think recycle was extra i just initially thought that my quarterly bill was for the services provided which for me was both weekly trash and bi weekly recycle but after O comment I am still confused on fulfillment of recycle service as I have not been notified (via phone, email, or when I called this morning) that I no longer receive recycle pick up or that they can pick and choose when they'd like to fulfill it since it's not charged?? Literally the worst trash company. What is your contact details? Two times now you guys have put trash on the ground. We waited 3 weeks for cans and then when service finally starts, you put bags on the ground and leave one bag in the can. Furthermore you knocked the can over this morning when it was in a can. We could of just shoved them under the lid, but we were being nice so trash didn't fall on anyone. Lesson learned.

Every time blue hen picks up my trash, my cans are always fallen over and or still has trash/recycling in them. Sometimes they just leave whatever falls out of the can on the ground. They also will leave cans blocking the street or driveway….the image that I’m using is what I came home to after they collected recycling. Not trying to cause drama, just help me out man. Cans still knocked over smh

Becoming very frustrated with blue hen. Called because the trash men were flying down our gravel lane a month or so ago. Ok they seemed to address it. Today again trash truck flies down our lane. They took our personal trash can lid. My toddler doesn’t understand and is hysterical because our can has no lid and our blue hen lid is busted today as well now. Guess it’ll take my child or one of the neighbors and neighborhood animals to get hit or hurt before the problem is fixed. It’s a shame because we’ve used blue hen in our old neighborhood and it was great now a year later here we are.

A couple months ago I called in and addressed the issue of my bins being left on the road and we could get a knock on the door that someone's hit my bin and we'd have to pay for their vehicle repair. Guess what recently happened? The exact thing! The lid on my recycle bin was damaged when it was hit and apparently broken off during pick up this morning and not a soul said a word. They (the company) threw the bin minus the lid in the ditch and moved on. Edit: for everyone saying they don't pick up anything next to your bin, they don't. I was told I could pay for a second bin, as they do not pick up anything that is not in a bin. This happened again this week - additional pictures attached.

The wind was blowing so I taped to can so the trash will not be over our neighbors yard. Well, the disposal collector's didnot pick up our trash can. I had to call the office. I like to support military veteran l owned businesses, I'm a fellow veteran myself. But, the collector's have to use their heads and see why the tape was on the can. I don't want to go to another company, but this cannot happen again.
