1971. My first and only love, Kathleen, reached the summit at La Vita pass in our 1969 mgb when all the lights came on. Checked it out and the drive belt was shredded! Started coasting downhill for 21 miles into Walsenburg. Turned into a gas station just the lights were turning off. The attendant found a fan belt and put it on. ?? Still love you Kath ❤️
Beautiful Pass in Southern Colorado between Walsenburg and Alamosa. Extreme caution between dusk and dawn. Hit one deer, and 5 minutes later two more jumped in front of us. Narrowly avoided by yanking the steering wheel so hard that it hurt my right arm so badly I could only use my left to drive and eat for several days!
Me and a friend went up there today looking for a road on top the road was 510 off to left. way out in the middle of no where with beautiful shots of the mountains too..
Not exactly the proper road with an 18 wheeler at 80,000 pounds. But it is beautiful. I was glad. Not one car coming. Not one car going. Just me. That’s probably why I was able to make them turns!

The burn scars are vast but the green underneath the burnt trees are hopeful and beautiful. The difference the heavy snows have made in this last year.
I have a cabin 6 miles from La Veta Pass, so these cameras are great in determining if it is snowed in. Wish they would fix the temperature gauge, it's been broke for over a year. There is an old ghost town free to the public called Uptop that is just a few miles from here that is worth checking out. Also Blanca Peak (14,345') and the Great Sand Dunes are about 30 minutes away.
