Very pretty once you get to the top I would rate it a 6.5/10 for difficulty.

It's a difficult climb but worth it. Dress for cold weather and the incessant sound of gravel rocks underneath your feet as you march up.

My personal favorite mountain to climb. Very good for beginners. Very windy bring a jacket

What a climb!!! My first 14er and it was awesome! My group used the Four Mile Creek Trailhead and it was the perfect distance. Goes up fast and the mining wreckage is pretty crazy along the way up. It gets really rocky with essentially large gravel for the top two thirds and was definitely a workout for those of us who rock minimalist shoes. We went in July and there was an awesome wall of snow about midway up that we used as an epic slide on the way back down. Once you pass that mid point where the snow wall is it got crazy windy (like enough where you feel like you could get knocked over easily) but luckily the exposure (how vertical and tall the drop offs are off the edge) on this hike is about as low as 14ers go and had anyone slipped off the side you should be able to shimmy back to the trail. Weirdly enough the wind really died when we truly reached the summit but was right back when we’re on the way back down. Look northwest from the top and get great views of the town of Leadville and Mt Elbert and Mt Massive the 1st and 2nd tallest peaks in Colorado respectively.

An epic hike with some great history surrounding the area. Great scenery such as old mines and mining equipment. I recommend this 14er for anyone visiting Colorado. The hike is fairly short but steep. Get an alpine start to beat afternoon thunderstorms also the road to the trailhead is treacherous in a car.

Hard hike due to wind. Start earlier or risk 40-60mph winds at the summit. But did some sliding down the mountain in the show in a particular area that was fun.

Mt. Sherman is an easier 14er with a lower elevation gain then most. Near the trailhead are the ruins of an old mining camp which is fun to checkout. Views are amazing and overall hike isn't too strenuous.

Approaching from the Leadville side is a challenge since the road to the trailhead requires several detours. 5 miles round trip and it is a steep 2.5 to get to the top.

Very cool hike, don’t let the term “easy 14er” deceive you, it’s still a 14er. Arrive early, take an off-road-capable vehicle (we used Mazda cx-5 and could reach trailhead), bring water and poles, sleep and eat breakfast, start heading down 11am or sooner to avoid afternoon storms, support your fellow hikers, you should be fine

Hiked on July 16, 2023. Started hike around 5:45 in the morning. Got back to car around 10. Spent about 40ish minutes on the summit. Super busy, lots of people at the top. Car camped night before along Four Mile Creek Road. Bare booted entire hike, very few spots with snow. Careful of all the loose rock going down. Not very windy, some wind along ridge before the summit. Pretty mild 14er in my opinion. My 3rd total. Highly recommend as a beginner 14er.

Great fourteener and not too hard, at least by 14er standards. I got started around 5:15 AM on the Southwest Ridge route from 4 mile creek trailhead. This was in late June. Quickly, a warning to my fellow Google Maps users, stay on 4 mile creek road! What Google Maps wants you to take is Coil Road, but Coil Road is basically a glorified trail that adds 20 minutes to your drive and eventually joins back up to 4 mile creek road anyways. There was patchy snow up until about 12900 feet, where there is a snowfield up to the Sherman-Sheridan saddle. There is a bit of scree before the final push up the ridge, which was still covered in snow and essentially low difficulty mountaineering. I would recommend getting an early start if there is still snow on the trail(it gets slippery after 8-9 AM), and of course bring microspikes and/or trekking poles. On my way down, I glissaded down the snowfield under the saddle using my trekking poles, which worked great in the soft 8 AM snow. Great 14er for beginners, but unless you or a partner is somewhat experienced with hiking in the snow and wind, hold off until July or August!

Easiest 14er I have done and one of the prettiest. Reviews said it wasn't as pretty as some of the other 14ers but it's a 14er they are all stunning in their own ways.

It wasn't a hard mountain to walk. The path, however, did get somewhat sketchy above the summit as you maneuver around piles of boulders in the middle of I guess is a narrow path. It took 3 hours to go up the mountain and then possible 2 hours to go down. There is lots to see as there are ruins to see and Mount Sherman is attached to other mountains.

I need to work on the fear of falling. Popular place for climbers and I am told that it is one of the least challenging. Getting there is a little interesting with the 3+ mile dirt road. Tough on a low clearance vehicle but if you drive slow and watch for rocks and holes you can get to within 3/10ths of a mile to the trailhead. This is an old mining site so stay on the trail for your safety. Great views from the top.

Easiest 14er as I have heard and as I experienced. Good views, 2000ft elevation ~5mi up and down. A great option if looking for first 14er to hike

I've always wanted to go mountain hiking with son's and thought it'd be a great memorable experience. I googled easy 14fter's because at the time my son's were 13 and 11. Mt.Sherman was the top recommended easy 14fter... Absolutely nothing was easy about this climb, this climb almost rivaled my climb Mt. Elbert which was killer with all it's false summits. Physically taxing hike this was. Obviously I must of took us on the hard trail. I originally started out on one trail but we had an endless army of angry nats attacking us at the beginning of the trail. We duked it out with them for about 20 minutes then retreated because I thought we were on the wrong trail. The other trail I took us on crossed a small stream. Then took us up some really rocky terrain. My son's had to take numerous hydration breaks and I was quite winded at times myself. Whichever trail I took us on was very steep. My son's were little soldiers, especially my 11 year old but half way up the climb I told my son's that this was enough. We were on this hike for hours. My son's were disappointed and wanted me to continue up to the summit to make the hike worth it which I did. My son's returned to our car and I went on. I think it took me another 2 hours to reach the summit and I was power hiking it. The views from the top are marvelous and made the climb worth it. Never again tho lol.

If you want a 14 or that is your first or one to take guests from out of town this is it. It is a 4.75 mile 2000 foot hike or non-technical trails. There are some well-established rock crossings and you definitely want to be prepared for high winds. The drive to the parking area is really pretty with lots of beaver ponds

Fun 14er, too bad we had to rush down due to a thunderstorm. Still made it to the top. The scree is a little tough at times and some paths are annoying to find but if you can take it slow it's worth the experience.

Pretty straightforward climb even in winter. A bunch of old mine ruins along the way. The views from the summit are great.

Arrived at 6:30AM and was able to park quite close to the trailhead. Summited at 8:15 and stayed at the summit until 8:45. Back to my car by 10:30 and there was still plenty of parking available. Crowds weren't bad for the ascent, but the summit was a zoo by the time I left and there was a conga line of people ascending as I was descending. This is definitely the easiest 14er I've done - plenty of dogs and kids of all sizes were on the trail. You start at 12000 ft so it's only 2000 ft of elevation gain. The first half of the trail is an old mining road and the rest of the trail is also fairly developed - not technical at all. There's not much scree or talus to deal with, and none of the trail is extraordinarily steep. But don't be fooled, the easiest 14er is still a demanding hike, especially if you are not acclimated to the altitude. There's a Y part way up the mining road, marked with a cairn. You want to go to the right even though the left seems to be the more "obvious" path. Several people ahead of me did not notice the turnoff and had to backtrack.

Best 14er to take kids or any beginner up, in my opinion. It's a short hike in both miles and elevation gain (as far as 14ers go) and the old mine sites are fun to explore and keep excitement going for the kids because they want to go see what's in the next one.

The summit is ok. It was on my list of 14ers to complete. nothing scary about the hike. The best views are on the way down from sherman looking at sheridan. It gets pretty windy here. Several dispersed camping, and camp grounds along the road up. the basin is beautiful i recommend getting one of the spots up near the gate where you start the hike. I was completely alone the whole night and didn't see many people until my descent.

Fun hike with some of the most beautiful views I've ever seen in real life. I summited Mt. Sherman in my early teens and it struck me as a pretty strenuous hike then but the fact that I made it up at such a young age means it's not too difficult for an adult in decent shape. The route we took lead past an entrance to an old mine as well as some abandoned mining equipment. Lots of interesting sights to see!

I have climbed up Mount Sherman twice and each time it was a incredible pleasure. The hike is a little arduous but in comparison to other mountains like Long's peak Sherman is relatively tame. It's a great mountain to hike up if your a novice to mountain hiking, and remember to bring lots of water and some energy food for when you reach the top. Generally, if you hike up mount Sherman in the stormy summer months you typically want to summit before the afternoon and start on your way back down.

Great, moderately difficult climb for about 2,000' to summit this 14,000' mountain with a flat area as large as a football field at its summit. The climb rewards you with magnificent sweeping views of Leadville and the adjoining valleys to the west, and Fairplay and South Park to the east.

I took the west trail through the Iowa Glutch. The road is of course rocky but my rental car made it well enough. Slow and steady if you dont have a truck or SUV. I started the trail at 7:05 and was at the summit and back by 12 noon. My pace tends to be a little quicker than most and I also spend more time at the summit as well. For the west slope I would bring trekking poles. I did not for this peak and made it fine but the trail down will bring some sliding on this path. The other trail is easier from what I understand talking to others on the mountain. The summit offers great views and a refreshing thinnest to the air. Add this to your 14'er to-do list for sure.

Great hike passing alongside old mining ruins to a relatively easy 14er. You'll crest to a beautiful view of Mt Elbert and Mt Massive of the Sawatch Range, and La Plata of the Collegiate Peaks to the west, and see as far as Pikes to the east. Views of Leadville, rural Park County round it out.
