Best food I’ve ever eaten at a university/camp. I’m honestly sad to leave it! So many yummy veggies, so many options, SUCH GOOD ICECREAM, and the best staff

The grounds are beautiful. I especially like the duck pond and the native plant garden

It is weird but it bugs me that all the roads on the campus are wine themed. I mean, I know where in wine country but still this is a school where I are learning is supposed to happen and wine, is may I say the opposite.

It’s absolutely what you make of it. Area is charming, academics aren’t the greatest, but there plenty of opportunities for those who strive to find them.

I have been helping wife wife deal with enrolling in classes here as well as her homework and papers she has been assigned. I graduated from a CSU school down in Los Angeles - class of 17 and 21. Sonoma State is a TERRIBLE school. They have no money and therefore they have very few classes and professors; you are stuck with what they offer with no choice whatsoever. There is very little diversity of thought in the school and you will be ostracized if your opinion doesn't follow the "popular" narrative of the professor/classmates. Lastly, the professors and staff are not responsive to emails and they are largely unhelpful. It is a really pathetic school. In my view they should get rid of SSU and roll it into SRJC. If you have any other choice besides SSU, I highly suggest you give your alternative a good consideration. I feel bad for my wife that she has to deal with this place after the great experience I had at CSUN down in Los Angeles. Really pathetic. So disappointing.

Just started at SSU as a transfer student from SRJC and I am blown away by the beauty surrounding this campus! All of the teachers and students I've interacted with have been amazing! I'm loving this school!

They are providing a location for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to offer week-long sessions of For the Strength of Youth conference. The dorms look as if they will work quite nicely.

I enjoyed taking Psychology classes here and finishing my Bachelor's degree years ago. It's a mellow university. Nice teachers. Some great classes. Housing on campus. The Green Music Center has wonderful events. Overall, a lovely campus and school in the CSU system.

4th of July celebration: Too few patriotic songs. Other songs were just OK. Fireworks were very good.

This was by far the worst place I have ever attempted to achieve an education at. I came here in spring of 2017. I stayed for one semester, because I couldn't stand it. The staff are beyond uncaring, rude, and obviously hate their job. Office staff is imcompetent. I had a chemistry teacher who couldn't teach, didn't have long to teach, and gave us homework well advanced beyond what was taught in class, in simple terms, had to learn on your own. I had an anthropology class, where you weren't allowed to have to have individualaity on your projects. I wasted 6 months and racked up 8000 in student loans. They jack up the prices of mediocre education. I had better at ghetto community colleges. Never again will I attend a university, because this one taught me that higher education is all about money. Do yourselves a favor, go for community college. It's much cheaper, staff cares more, and bachelor degrees aren't even cutting it in the workforce anyways.

It's a beautiful campus. Close to downtown Rohnert Park so there's always something to do when not busy studying. The staff are very caring. Wouldn't choose a different place to get my education.

Love this school, it's truly beautiful. Foods always great and they have a pretty decent amount of vegetarian options. The staff and faculty are amazing and extremely welcoming. Best choice I ever made transferring here. Although regretfully they don't have family housing which made it very hard for me as a parent to find housing. They do have a suggested list of housing but everywhere I called only rents to single students..

I really like the campus. The architecture is nice and there is plenty to do on campus. The Lobos cafeteria is an awesome place to drink beer and do homework. Where the school really lacks is the nonexistent connection between staff/students. It is overtly political, which is cool if you are far left, but if you are indifferent or conservative, forget about it. Parking is pretty bad but that’s every university.

this school is horrible. the campus smells most of the year like manure. the housing administration (becky) screwed me over and didn’t seem to care about me or my situation. the food at the cafeteria is poorly made. so many times i had gone and gotten a burger and the meat was barely cooked. i’m talking about rare meat! i would not suggest going to school here. don’t waste your time and money. there’s also nothing to do here except go to other cities and explore.

As a SSU graduate I would say that overall this is an okay school. Housing is good, food is good, faculty are okay, and campus atmosphere is good. The main problem, like many of the other universities, is that they are letting more and more students in (so they make more money) but not hiring more teachers or opening more classes enough to meet the demands of the students. It is becoming very difficult to get into classes necessary for people to graduate "on time." For the first couple of years at SSU it was almost impossible to get into G.E. classes that I wanted or needed. Due to this problem it took me longer to graduate. But with the new president of SSU things are starting to look up, because she is much more student focused than the last president. Thanks SSU.

1989 Graduate. Loved my 4 years. A lot changes to campus and dorms. No other CSU campus close to SSU. Feel in love with it on my visit. Did not even check out my other choices. Live in NC since 1993 and run into alumni that moved here as well. We all shared the same feelings about how much we miss SSU and Northern California. I still always refer to the sports teams as Cossacks, Shared the 2011 College World Series with my sons which was played in Cary NC close to are home. Was special week.

Sonoma state university doesn't let you wear a cross necklace because they are afraid it will offend people. This is outrageous and is unconstitutional. If you want to be able to excercise your constitutional rights of freedom of speech and freedom of religion, do not go to to Sonoma State University

The campus administration can be frustrating, but the Economics program is easily the best in the CSU system. I would consider the program among the top ten for State Universities country-wide--especially when you consider the size of the campus and department.

At Sonoma State, it was easy to get involved with all the things I wanted. It gives a small/community vibe along with a cultured education. At first, I was going to choose a different university, then changed my mind last minute after I visited the spacious state of the art dorms and gorgeous/picturesque campus. They have an Amici's Pizza Restaurant (at least when I went there in 2008...is it still there?), and a Pub on campus which serves alcohol (yay!). Weekends as a student included endless wine tasting, beer drinking, and trips to San Francisco. I'm so glad that I decided on SSU. One of the best decisions I ever made!

Beautiful campus. The Horticulture is awesome. Weill Hall has wonderful music. Water fountains are everywhere.

I went to this school with the idea that after two years I was going to transfer into a UC. However, I soon found out that Sonoma state was my dream school. I am very involved on campus and have found my nitch in a local sorority, Kappa Delta Zeta. I am happy to say that I will be getting my Bachelors in Biology with a double minor in statistics and engeneering. I couldn't have asked for a better experience here!

I would advise against going here if you want a quality education. By the way, what I'm about to say is not just my feeling, this is the feelings of many fellow students. Especially for transfer students, every other transfer student I have talked to all agree that our junior colleges were much better. If you do decide to transfer here don't bother going to the orientation, huge waste of time and money. Also the teachers are garbage for the most part, a few good ones, but not enough to make this a better school. Another bad part is you have to take a writing test before you graduate, it's called the WEPT, and from what I understand no other state university has this test to graduate and most people have to take it more that once to pass. Each time you take this test it costs 55 dollars. I could go on and on about all bad things at this school, but I don't want to write another paper if I can avoid it. I'm not even mad anymore, I'm just disappointed that I'll be graduating from here. Everyone I know had a great college experience and I was excited to come here and have my own. Now I'm just counting the days till I get my worthless diploma. In the future I'll tell people I went to a good school like Cal Poly or something, because I'm not proud to be a seawolf. P.S. The town smells really bad a lot of the time because of the nearby agriculture. It smells like cow crap because you're breathing in cow poop. But nobody ever mentions that until you already move here.

Sonoma State University Summer Camp CSM is very commercial organization. They get money and give nothing. There is only one instructor and one hour class a day. Students have 23 free hours a day. The program is really funny. They create different name like " independent creative work" " free time" but they are all real free time. Kids stay in their rooms alone and learned nothing. They have almost no instruments. Even the students compose a music they have no orchestra to perform or record. During the summer camp, there is no place that you can buy even water. Kids need to go out the campus to a gas station to shop. When you decide to leave the camp the instructor says " you lose money" That's right. When you leave CSM you only lose money nothing else. Shortly don't waste your money and time for CSM ( California Summer Music ) It is really a big shame for Sonoma State University

We recently went to see a play that was being directed by a friend of ours. We had never been to Sonoma State and we were very impressed with the campus and the surrounding area. In trying to locate the theatre we encountered many students, they were both helpful, friendly, and dare I say, courteous. The theatre in which the play was held was very modern. From all appearances, an excellent school.

Great school to attend. I transferred from Chico and it made a huge difference. I was able to grow and get my degree done without the nonsense. Fun but chill.

The ridiculousness over "religious intolerance" doesn't REFLECT the school. It reflects ONE person in a minor administration position. Seriously, learn facts. Anyway, SSU is small, cute, some departments are great like WGS and Hutchins while others are only okay. The campus is gaining in diversity(ie less 'white' kids) and evening out a bit in its gender ratio too. (At one point was something like 70% female) IT is still predominantly middle class and upper middle class white women but that doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. There are also a lot of so-cal students. Anyway, Cotati and Rohnert Park are average and somewhat cute suburban towns, it isn't far from farms and wine, Santa Rosa is a metropolis with shopping and the like, Petaluma is very cute and overall the school is far from bad. It isn't my personal cup-of-tea but it isn't a bad school at all. Their new student center and gym are both amazing! There are some issues with some students btw but nothing that should entirely stop someone from checking it out based off their ethnicity...

My little sister goes here and loves it. Whenever I visit I am impressed with all the new things on campus that keep pooping up. Apparently the music theater is the CArnegie Hall of the West Coast - never been to Carnegie but I'm sure SSU rivals well.

One of the smaller CSU schools, SSU is pretty much known for liberal arts. If you are thinking about majoring in law or education, the Hutchins school is pretty good. This also has the best student housing of any campuses I've visited. The downside is that there's not much diversity and there's a lot of backward thinking about certain ethnicities.
