Used to be efficient and easy for trash disposal. Then suddenly the city of Big Bear Lake figured they are collecting too much trash and by inference determined it must be too many contractors, out-of-towners and non-residents using the trash site. So they pass an ordinance requiring proof of residency to use the dump site. I understand the reasoning. But I dont think the city considers the law of unintended consequences. By making it difficult for people to dispose of trash, they may end up reducing the volume they collect but where do you think all that trash from those "unwanted" ppl go? Not everyone is going to drive down the mountain with it or store it up for that day they want to discard it in the "right" way. No, I believe by restricting the dump site to only residents, the city will inadverently be incentivizing pollution as tourists and those of 2nd class citizenry instead choose to discard their rubbish in the lakes and in bags on the mountainside on the trip home. By trying to solve a little problem it will create a much bigger one. Personally, I think those who are taking their trash to a designated dump site should be commended not discriminated against. I expect very little from government but the basics-- repair the roads, lights and power, police, firefighters, trash cleanup --these are the basic funtions of their job. With the huge budget that Big Bear Lake City controls via tourism, they sure are chasing pennies while risking the very beauty and paradise of why people come vacation here in the first case. I hope I am wrong. But human nature dictates ppl will find other ways to get rid of trash, legal or not, they will not endlessly store it, collect it, and transport it. At least a sizable proportion of society will just pollute cuz they dont live here anyways and you just made it very difficult for them to discard their trash. In my opinion.... CRAZY!!!!

Dumpsters regularly emptied and loading/ unloading areas pretty clean for being a dump site area. Easy to drive in and out of as long as no knuckleheads park in the middle of the driveway.
