Was very grateful they were able to get me in right away, with no advanced notice. Tristan was great to work with and quickly diagnosed the issue as a worn out wheel bearing. He didn't have the press on-hand to resolve the issue, but he graciously gave me a break on the cost for the diagnostic since it was so easy to identify the issue and he pointed me towards another shop that could likely get me back on the road as soon as possible (he recommended Dave's Automotive Repair whom was indeed able to get me in the next day and is doing the work as I write this review)
We were driving up from San Diego when a piece under our car came loose. We called the shop and Tristan told us to stop by, and he helped us right away. He fixed it in just a few minutes. He was very kind, honest, and helpful. We are so grateful, especially while traveling! Highly recommend this shop to anyone in Big Bear.
I had a very bad experience with this auto shop. I dropped off my car for service, and when I came the next day to pick it up and pay, the guy told me he was on lunch break and that I had to either wait an hour or come back later.
So I came back the next day again. When I arrived, they had other customers, so I waited again until they finished. All I wanted was to pay and get my keys, but instead, the guy started explaining things while I was just standing there. When I asked why I had to come two days in a row just to pick up my car, he started laughing at me together with another customer.
That was extremely rude and unprofessional. The customer service here is very, very, very bad. I will never come back.
Tristan from Big Bear Auto Repair is a true professional and wonderful human being. He went above and beyond evaluating my vehicle and recommending next steps objectively and honestly.
I got a flat tire on my way to go snowboarding and Tristan was so helpful. He got me in and out of the shop in 10 minutes and I made it to the mountain on time. I can’t rave about him enough, he made having a flat tire stress free.
These guys saved the DAY! David and the crew squeezed us in in an emergency (it’s always an emergency, right!?) and got right down to the problem at hand, and solved quicker than expected. Decades of experience and the know-how with these guys. Helped get us back up and running day-of and helped prevent any future issues too. Incredible shop and crew!
I had a couple great experiences. Everyone was so friendly on the phone and on site to help me with my tire issues. Happy to have a reliable and trustworthy place in Big Bear to go to.
Halfway up the mountain on our drive from Joshua Tree to Big Bear, the car indicated the engine was at a high temperature and we needed to pull over for safety. Very quickly we realized we had a massive coolant leak and had to get a tow.
Big Bear Auto popped up with a quick search as a highly rated auto shop. Unfortunately it was Sunday so we couldn't call to check if they had room in their yard or if there was a huge backlog of cars to be serviced ahead of us. Nothing to fear, the tow arrived at the shop and there was plenty of space. They have a voicemail to call into after hours and also accept texts.
On Monday, we received a call from Tristan as soon as the shop opened and he got the ball rolling with a timeline of what he would be checking and how long it might take plus the pricing. He was amazing in giving us a call every step of the way as he performed his diagnostic and repairs. After two days, the car had a new coolant tank and water pump and he was happy to show the old parts and explain what had happened. As we let him know in the very first conversation that we were from out of town and would be driving straight back home to the Bay Area as soon as we got the car back, he also made sure to test the car and engine thoroughly.

Tristan ( I hope I am spelling that correctly) is awesome!! He fixed a problem I've had that no other shop was able to figure out. This guy is legit the best. My car is now working beautifully thanks to this guy.
I was on vacation and needed some codes read. Travis was fabulous. So knowledgeable and explained everything to me about what was going on. He let me take pictures of the codes and was so professional. They seem very reliable and ho est. Would highly recommend!
Danny was busy, but dropped what he was doing to conduct a quick tire inspection and remove a nail today. Wouldn't take any money for the help either. Thanks for the assistance. I would recommend this business.
Professional, fair, honest and quick!
As an out of towner with some concerns before the long road trip home, the team at Big Bear Auto Repair and Tire took great care of me. They even fit me in on the 4th of july. They diagnosed the problem, gave fair recommendations, and were great to work with.
Outstanding service and so helpful. By far the best experience, I had a wiper that got busted with the snow storm and I came in off the road ... they quickly evaluated and fixed the issue and I was back in action. 5 Stars for service, affordability and host work.
We had a tire that was low and stopped at the 7-Eleven down the road. Unfortunately the air compressor was not working. We drove a little further down to this auto repair shop and the guys were happy to fill up the tire. We tried to tip them and they refused. But as we were driving away, they hollered out after us. We were leaking fuel all over their parking lot. Danny Wheeler and his crew pulled us into the shop right then and there and were able to fix us and get us back on the road in no time. They were kind compassionate and professional. Highly highly highly recommend.
We needed to replace the tires on our car rented in Palm Springs with rear tires worn down to the metal. Driving in the mountains, we were fearful of driving too quickly around curves. Danny Wheeler worked to get new tires into his store by the next day! Within 24 hours we were outfitted with new reasonably priced tires, with the other 2 inflated properly. We were treated efficiently with kindness and concern. I would highly recommend Big Bear Auto for all of your car’s needs. I felt lucky to have landed in good hands.
Battery died during our time in big bear. They were able to put in a new battery in about an hour. Service was good and quick but they charged $85 more for the battery then what they were selling down the street at Napa. I was happy with their service.
We were visiting from Phoenix and had problems with our Jeep not starting. The dash was reading several trouble issues and we luckily found this mechanic shop and towed our vehicle there. The owner Danny was gracious in squeezing us in his busy schedule and was able to get us back on the road the next day. We greatly appreciate him and his crew, including his wife Winter; they were all very nice and helpful!
I was visiting from San Diego and had a brake system failure in my truck. I had to leave the car for a week and rent a car to get home, then Uber back. It sounds miserable but not when you are working with Big Bear Auto. The mechanic(s) sorted out the truck's brake system. As a result, it drives better than before. Mechanic (s) is a pro. The price was reasonable, and customer service was outstanding.

We came in for a nail in our tire while visiting Big Bear. These guys took care of us without hesitation and got us back on the road in minutes! Friendly service and honest fair pricing! So glad we stopped there and were able to get tire fixed!
Extremely good service, upfront and honest pricing. Danny and his staff went above and beyond to ensure my BMW’s secondary air system was running correctly. Even weeks after the initial repair, they continued to check the monitors for me, at no charge, to make sure I was able to get my vehicle smogged. I would give 6 stars if it were an option, these are the guys you want working on your vehicle in Big Bear.
Vacationed in Big Bear Lake area for a week. Arrived on Sunday. On Tuesday the “Low Air Pressure” indicator shows on my dash board. We stopped at Big Bear Auto & Truck Repair, explained the situation, thinking that one of our tires had a slow leak. After a very short wait, technicians performed a visual check of the tire, then checked the pressure on all four tires and saw that they were all near 35 PSI. No charge. They suggested that we drive around for a few hours and come back to re-check. We did. Same pressure all around. They suggested the “Low Air Pressure” sensor may be faulty. No Charge. They suggested that we stop by on Saturday before heading down the mountain going home. We did. Same situation. I offered, to a gentleman that I believe was the owner, to tip the technicians for how responsive they were with great customer service attitudes. He declined, saying, “It’s our pleasure”. I kind of forced the tip/token on him, and I saw him distribute among the team. We received peace of mind, got home safely, and will address the sensor issue here. Great place. Great experience.
These guys are straight shooters. I have dropped off my truck after several other shops could not figure out the trailer brake warning and these guys found it was a fuse in 20 minutes; from fabricated tractor parts to major service and diagnostic I trust this shop with my wallet and my keys any day. Best service on the mountain no doubt these guys are automotive rock stars!
I needed a new local mechanic and I really lucked out! Danny has been great to work with, friendly, professional and on-point. Besides quality service, they stick to quotes and even passed on savings to me, for a part sourced for less $!! He replaced a faulty shock in my '97 Isuzu, but also repaired my Mini Cooper (BMW), which had been at another local shop for weeks without a diagnosis. Great experiences, thank you so much. I will return and refer often!
Came here today to get my tires checked. Sensors kept going off. The guy that helped us was really friendly and honest. Made us feel comfortable and like we were family. Got us in and out in minutes. I defetnetly recommend this place.
We were visitng and got a nail in our tire. We pulled up and were greeted right away. They took care of patching our tire very quickly and even let us use an umbrella to get back to our car when a thunderstorm popped up suddenly and brought down the rain.
The waiting room was clean and pleasant as well as the bathroom. We vacation here regularly and this is where we will be coming back should future repairs come up.
Got stuck with a car that wouldn't start while camping on vacation. Roadside assistance towed my car to Big Bear Auto and though they were swamped that morning, they checked my car thoroughly to diagnose the problem and then quickly took care of it! The owner and his crew were very courteous, honest, and professional. Would not hesitate to use them again!
This is who I trust for basic maintenance as well as big stuff like struts, brakes and timing belts. They make me feel safe when I pull my trailer because they installed my brake controller and other helpful add-ons. They are always willing to give me a quote ahead of time so I know what to expect. I appreciate when they are honest if some repair "can wait".
