I have hiked and kayaked here. This is a very secluded and quiet place. The trails are better than they were ten or fifteen years ago when I first explored a few of them. They are now well marked. There are nice views along the lake. Kayaking here was very peaceful. The staff are very nice and helpful.
This place is truly magical. Tranquil. Well maintained and managed. If you are looking to be off grid, in a beautiful 162 acre mountain setting, with very kind people, this is it. You are situated alongside the edge of a peaceful reservoir, where you can fish, paddleboard and kayak at your leisure (Craig Cats, GoBoats and motor powered fishing boats are available for half or daily rentals). My brother and I stayed here for over a week in a full hook up RV site, and did not want to leave. Michael, the on-site manager, is SO accommodating. He made us feel like family upon arrival. My brother needed a ride into town, and Michael did not hesitate to offer his truck. He has a kind of "niceness" that needs to exist everywhere in the world. Daryl, Michael's right hand man, is also very helpful and nice. He took my brother on an electric bike tour of the surrounding nature trails. Another thing to note - the site is dog friendly :) BUT you need to keep your animal leashed. Not just out of respect, but you will likely see bald eagles during your stay! Incredible! My brother has already been back for a second visit, and I most certainly will too.
Do not need to cancel your reservation because they will try to not respond to your request and charge the entire amount and when you prove you canceled more than a week prior they chose to charge me a nights fee instead of the lesser lodging fee..they are crooks and do not honor what you pay for!
When u need something from the manager or the store person u can't never find them then u find them they act like they don't want to help u. If they don't want tents on grass then they need to build a concrete pad to put them on and somewhere away from campers. This was a great place to come to but the manager has to many rules for some people and others he let's them by
We've camped at Gatewood several times over the years and have always enjoyed it. However, on our most recent trip, we did not expect to have our waterfront campsite turn into a fishing pier - at all hours of the day and night. We couldn't even enjoy a fire outside in the evening because of this. There needs to be a designated fishing area for those who don't have waterfront access - away from the campsites!
While visiting the town of Pulaski we saw all these signs to Gatewood Park. My friend and I decided to ride out there and see what it was. The site manager was rude and unfriendly. I won't be coming back to camp here.
Beautiful campground with a very pleasant host. What ever you do, do not take miller's creek road as goggle map shows. The worst mountain gravel road I've ever been on. I was literally inches from rolling my motorhome down the mountain several times. Had to hire a skid steer to drag me off the road where I bottomed out, now have thousands of dollars worth of damage. No place to turn around and lots of horrible hair pen tuns and sharp 90's. I thank God I made it through alive!
Imagine being able to come here and rent a Jon boat and a remote campsite for $35. Go setup your tent and gear, then head out on the water under the moon lit sky and extremely calm water then fish until 2pm.
Now, you can't have the boat out after a certain time, all the remote campsites have been disbanded. This was my favorite thing to do on a weekend and now has been completely taken away. I miss the old ways
I hope one day you guys will bring it back because I have so many memories being out there and relaxing on the water and catching fish all night. I don't even care about the $ amount, I just want the opportunity to be provided again...
Great place to fish and have picnics but still tore up on the one thing that made Gatewood Gatewood..
We and two sets of grandchildren (with their parents) came to Gatewood for a three night stay. One family stayed in the cabin, the other family in the newly-placed Airstream, and we parked our teardrop on one of the nice campsites.
This is a well kept campground with a very friendly atmosphere. The bathrooms are super clean, and the campsites are well groomed. The kids absolutely loved the playground. Michael T and his team were always nearby and made sure we had everything we needed. Thanks so much, we will certainly come back.
Beautiful reservoir in the small town of Pulaski. Park is small with only 33 sites and hiking trails up and around water. Lots offer water, electric and sewer. Convenient camp store with wood, ice and worms. Definitely going back !
A hidden gem, with great walking and biking trails (though not always well marked...and no map). The waterfront seems fun, and there's a little shop for rentals and sundries that's open seasonally.
Very rude camp host. Were looking at campsites and were told the park was closed because of virus,, however camp host was NOT wearing a mask and there were no signs going in saying such. There were other people there with no masks and appeared to be part of the hosts entourage we were told to leave very rudely Beautiful place. Would not camp here. Very hard to get here even without camper. A lot of money was spent to make this place inviting to guests but without hospitality they have wasted their efforts.
Park is very clean. Trails are good but not very well marked. They only have one trail map in the office so we had to take a picture of it. One trailhead had a sign, but you could not even tell where the trail started. We also rented a jon boat which went at a crawl. The GPS on my phone had our fastest speed at 1.5mph. It was painfully slow. It took over 45 minutes just to go to the dam and back and that was with some paddling. 2 hour minimum on the boat rentals for $21.06, not sure why they can't round that off.
Very well maintained. Always a nice trip when we go up to fish. Wish they had a larger area for the people who aren't camping, only fishing or boating.
Gatewood reservoir in Pulaski county is a beautiful place. There is a public restroom which is conveniently located. There are ample water sports to do except for swimming. There's a place to launch your boat and buy nightcrawlers. This was a great way to spend a day and was hardly anyone there.
Beautiful and peaceful. Great picnic areas with grills. We went for a quick trip to do some bank fishing. Can't wait to head back and check out the boat rentals.
Me & my fiancee just went to check it out, he has been before a few years ago. I've never been but we really enjoyed the pretty viewing! Also very quiet area. Would love to bring my family & camp sometime.
Went there this morning advertisement says 24 hour fishing gate was locked got there at 6 sign said open at 8 closes at 10 how is that 24 hour fishing I have fish there 30 years always Launch boat early and pay launch fee when I finish fishing. Someone said you can't even launch your own boat now. Jacked the prices up on rentals. Have heard several people complain about changes saying they won't be back. Beautiful place to fish guess I'll find another one until more changes are made for the better.
They rent john boats, sometimes you don't get a good battery and that causes you to loose time when you pay by the hour. Its nice to rent the boats to ride out on the water. They have a little store and the manager put fishing line that I bought there on my fishing pole for me which was really nice of him. The staff is very nice and very helpful.
Beautiful, out of the way park! Very secluded. Feels like a true getaway. The staff that runs the Mountain to Island store are very friendly. The boats we rented worked great!
I have always loved Gatewood. It is one of the most peaceful and beautiful places around here. Unfortunately, they have increased the prices for boat rentals and camping quite a bit (they say it is more in line with State park prices, which it may be, but it isn't a state park, it was much easier to afford previously). Really lovely place to have a picnic with your family or skip stones in the water, even if you can't afford the boats or camping.
Awesome campground, clean facilities, and the friendliest and most help staff you'll ever meet. The lake is Awesome and so peaceful. Would recommend Gatewood Park to anyone getting ready to go for my third time this year.
Absolutely fantastic! Great for camping, fishing, short hikes, etc. Campgrounds are in great shape. The facilities are always kept clean. Friendly employees and corn hole rental(money returned when you bring the boards back).bNot to mention a great view. Definitely reccomend!
