Signs all over once you exit interstate but if you go in the winter it doesn't seem to be open even on a nice mild day. Considering the distance from interstate a closed sign would have been helpful.
We absolutely love the campground, we've camped at Gatewood for many years, however the host there now is not very pleasant, he rides around hunting something to knit pick about. Also a family member rented the Airstream this weekend with a hefty price of 400.00 plus dollars for 3 nights and when he arrived it was pointed out that there is no bathroom in this camper. It does not mention this in the description of the camper, so be aware.
Just made a last minute trip up to Gatewood Park. Just a gem of a campground. Host was awesome. Hard to beat sitting around a campfire next to the lake.
Beautiful, quiet area with fantastically clean bathhouse and facilities and the nicest people. Busy, but not loud or overly crowded for a nice place to set up camp whether you're in an RV or a tent.
Beautiful place , kinda tough to get to, 6 miles on a lonely road. If you are absolutely sure you don't need internet, it's fine, But do not expect ANY wifi and your phone data will likely not work as well. I mean, I guess I am spoiled but I need internet if just to plan day trips etc. The campground wifi is just non-existent, no matter what the site says
I have loved this place since I was 3 years old, from driving on my daddy's lap to the wedding once at amphitheater to the secluded camp sites. Being 45 yrs old I felt the need to pass the traditional onto my daughter who also learned how to drive on that same back road she 25 years old now. My son who is just turn 19 has also learned how to drive on that same road and learn how to enjoy the nature and the trails of Gatewood thanks to Charlie Rhett and his brother
The space was so small that we couldn't even open the canopy on the trailer. NO cell phone or internet coverage....NONE. 5 miles to nearest signal. Good thing we didn't have an emergency. The lake was beautiful. Good fishing.
An absolute gem! So quiet and peaceful. The campground was crowded, but you would never know it..everyone was quiet and respectful. You can rent electric powered boats, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards. This is easily one of my top 5 camping destinations!!! *NOTE* there is no cell service, the campground does have WI-FI, but it isn't the greatest..but for my husband and I, it was a nice break from the fast pace of everyday life! Will definitely be returning to Gatewood!!!
Wonderful campground and friendly staff. All areas were clean and well maintained. The camp manager Mike was very personable and helpful.
Be aware you will have absolutely no phone service in that area you will have to drive to town for that but camping is to disconnect from the world.
I will return to this spot for sure.
I have seen bad reviews in regards to the camp host. Just to let you know they are false claims they just enforce rules to keep the place nice for everyone and to maintain safety for the guests.
Spent three nights here and it was beautiful! So peaceful and serene. Camp host, Michael was as nice as could be and even offered to pick things up for us in town if we needed anything. Will definitely be returning!
Wonderful quiet, miss the host George an Sylvia. They made it feel like home. Added new play ground equipment, no swings but still good. No sand on the beach area like when it first opened. Kids were sad about that.
Very beautiful, clean, quiet. A small get away from it all. A real hidden gem! You can reserve boats with electric motors, kayaks and paddle boards. No gas powered boats allowed. Small beach and a playground. Lots of trails around the lake.
Loved our visit. We come to kayak frequently but decided to camp this round. It was great. The bath houses were kept clean, friendly staff at the welcome center. Will be back for sure
Gatewood is a beautiful park woth great fishing. The rental boats are awesome, but the time limitations on them are a bit underwhelming in the summertime. The website says campers can keep the boat overnight, but they must be back at dock by 6pm. The park will work with you on morning rental though. Campsites are cramped and not very wilderness, but still fun. Great fishing for largemouth, crappie, yellow perch and shell crackers.
Small, quiet campground with many lake front spots. Not gasoline powered boats means there is a lot of peace and quiet. DO NOT USE GPS DIRECTIONS!!! We made this 2 hour mistake. They do put this information in their confirmation email but it is at the bottom and not very prominent. Otherwise a pleasant experience.
I cannot say enough good things about this RV campground. There is nothing like watching the mist over the water on a fresh fall morning.
Michael was beyond helpful in everything and was very sweet.
The park is impeccably clean and very peaceful. Spaces are big. The view is amazing.
The price is very fair.
Overall I would highly recommend and I would return.
My husband and I chose this campground to spend our 4 day honeymoon. Wonderful views, rental boats, clean and accessable facilities, a great place to relax and enjoy nature and family. It was definitely the best place for us and created a memoriable honeymoon.
This place is way off the beaten path on a beautiful lake! If you love to fish, kayak or just camp by the lake and want to disconnect this is a beautiful place to do just that. Almost no wireless signal and 5 miles of narrow mountain roads from Pulaski VA to the park road and a tight fit for bigger RV's but we saw every size from class A on down at this park so it is doable and well worth the drive.
Serenity....The lake is chrystal clear, and the area is quiet and peaceful.
The hosts are very pleasent.
Make sure you have good directions. This campground is up a very long and somewhat windy road. Well worth the trip when you get there, but make sure you have what you need, the road back to town takes 20+ minutes.
