They did exactly what they said they would do in a timely manner. Could certainly have a more courteous manner at the front desk. I’m pretty easy to get along with most folks, and try to be polite and friendly. But both times went in, Manager was a bit offputting.
Got my car towed in because the transmission blew. They offered to install a remanufactured transmission for my 2010 Subaru Forester for ~4700. They got me in within 24 hours of calling and the car was done and ready for pickup in 3 days. So far so good, no issues. Running great about 750 miles in.
I was recommended to Barry’s by another local shop. Within one day of making my appointment they had my truck done and back to me. Very impressed with their professionalism and ability to get me back driving in such a timely manner.
Took my 2008 Mazda here because my local mechanic doesn’t work on transmissions. It had a transmission fluid leak and a check engine light with a transmission related code. Barry’s kept it for two days and couldn’t diagnose the specific issue or give me any kind of quote to fix beyond ‘it might need a full transmission rebuild’ which the service tech ballparked at $4000 (more than the car is worth so…nope).
It felt like they really didn’t want to work on the car because of its age, brand or whatever and just threw out a big number to make me go away. All in all not a positive experience for ‘specialists’.
Thanks to research done on YouTube and Google I was able to diagnose, get parts and fix both issues for less than $300 and the car runs great!

They stand by their work. I had a clutch replaced a year ago on my Suby Outback. Today I noticed an irregular clunking sound which I couldn’t identify, along with a perceived stiffened clutch pedal. Since I’m planning a long drive to Canada tomorrow I called and described the situation, requesting a quick look to be sure nothing dangerous was going on. They allowed me to come in today, found the (simple) and solved the problem. The clutch pedal is a different issue, not urgent, so now I can confidently go on the trip.
They have earned my loyalty.
David at Barry's is a straight-shooter. He told me exactly what was going on with my car and let me keep it there until I was able to tow it back to Massachusetts. Excellent customer-first minded service. Would recommend!
My 2012 Ford Fusion's shifting had started to be a little sluggish and had never been serviced. Barry's changed the auto trans fluid and performed maintenance service. When I picked up the car the final price was less than the original quote. As soon as I pulled away the shifting was smooth and like new.
Barry has always been professional and troubleshoots the problem quickly. Barry looked closely and sent me to Yipes. As Yipes used to install sunroofs.
