I came here because the North Lakes Recycling Center is closed until September 21st.
There is some signage to get you there for recycling, but it was confusing after the office. I went to go ask someone in the office, but it was locked (45 mins before close). Then we figured we would wait in the line for bulk drop off to ask. The person was nice, which is why I gave another star in my review. After that, the signage is so confusing. We drove in circles because they painted over the recycling sign to have no arrows. Why? I don't know. We went the wrong way and then had to turn around after 10 minutes and found the recycling bins. It's so disappointing. I wish Denton would actually mean what they say a provide recycling through out the city. Especially apartment living. I would suggest going to the North Lakes location. It is right behind the Tennis Center if that helps and is way more straight forward.
If Denton wants to discourage people from recycling, they're going about it exactly right. To get to the recycling bins you have to wait in the line with all the people who are weighing their trash or yard waste. Maybe Saturdays are busier than other times? In any case, today it took 30+ minutes of waiting in the 100° heat before we were let through to drop off our measly collection of recyclables. Ostensibly, it's free... but it's not free to run your air conditioner in an old Dodge Caravan for half an hour in the Texas summer. Also, I don't know if the bins are always mixed? But even though their website tells you to sort into plastic, paper, etc., it all goes in the same big dumpster.
What a joke. Why do I need to wait in line for 20 or more minutes to recycle some flattenwd cardboard boxes? Shame on you city of Denton.....you have failed us. I will just throw them away. Sad. And no, I dont want to drive to the Northlakes drop-off. And no, I dont want to voice my complaint to the city council, that's absurd, this shouldn't be difficult. And yes, I went to the cupboard parking lot but its closed up. Way to go Denton!
Arrived about 10:45 and found 17 cars/trucks in front of me, out past the lock gate, and took over 15 minutes to reach the window and tell the person I only needed to drop off recycle items. Drove to the recycle containers and found all 5 were stuffed full. It was ridiculous attempting to put nearly a hundred flattened cardboard pieces in the small window of the container. I've been happy to recycle the past 40 years, but now I'm done with it. If my neighborhood can't provide weekly pickup, it now all goes in the trash. Total time spent to "drop off" cardboard and 4 large bags was 40 minutes!
Great employees here. They used to have brooms and other tools out but I guess new management must have gotten rid of these. Always a nice place to get rid of unnecessary junk.
Twice the website shows that it is open but when we got there it has been closed. Lousy website and information on it. 7-7 is supposed to mean that its open and site listed it was open at the time we went but it was closed. Only phone number goes to the city office and not the recycling center
Extremely rude at the window and I'm not quite understanding why they charge you $25 just to dump brush if the mulch it up and sell it for more profit. over all. not a great experience.
