Just moved here from MA and had a massive pile of boxes taking up my garage after unpacking. Broke them down flat and stuffed my suv to the brim and drove here. Seems like a good spot. It was clean with plenty of space to park and unload. Big labeled dumpsters for sorting. Odd thing is it says Georgetown residents only, which I am, but I have MA plates still, and they didn't even ask about it. Great place to have near-by.
I saw an employee there threaten an old man today, not cool and uncalled for. The guy was placing his recyclables in the appropriate places and didn't know his garbage had very little vines in the bag. This man was threatened and told he better not do it again or it would be bad, physically. This employee needs to go, the man would have corrected his mistake but employee pressed the button and wouldn't let him.REALLy bad what I experienced. Scared to go back
Mark is exceptional. He is due to retire I believe June this year. Personally, I refer to him as the Gentile Giant even though by his admission he is only 5'11" tall. Gee Whiz I would add 6" to his height and say he is 6'5" tall. The rest of the staff in my opinion really are there for the people!
I like this recycling center. It's not too busy. I don't like that they don't post accurate hours on the website. Christmas Eve, they were closed when the site said they were supposed to be open.
I live on Wesley Rd and love this place. The only problem is how high the construction waste dumpsters are. There should be a platform next to then. Other than that, i'm very satisfied
One of the most comprehensive recycling centers I have ever visited. They recycle almost everything with the exception of food waste, paint, construction waste and Styrofoam peanuts.
Aluminum cans and plastic bottles are in the same bin, but everything else is separated, including: newspaper, cardboard, office paper, brown glass, green glass, clear glass, scrap metal, yard waste, motor oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, cooking oil, plastic bags (except black ones) and old furniture. There’s even a bin for old clothes and shoes. The yard is quite large and you can drive up next to each bin.
Conveniently located only 100 yards off of Highway 17, it can be hard to find as the signage on Highway 17 is difficult to see: so use Google maps.
Love that the community offers recycling but... we saved up our recyclables while on vacation there (since our rental didn't offer recycling), then stopped by the pawleys island location on our way out of town and the bins were full/"closed" and we weren't allowed to put anything else in - so sadly everything got thrown away....
They only let you in once a day. If you are cleaning your yard and need to make 2 trips your out of luck! Not always very friendly. Other than that it's good.
I've lived here 2 1/2 years and I have found this center the best one. Great for getting rid of brush and branches. Visits are limited to one per day which isn't good for a large project.....and no scavenging allowed. But overall it's good for landscaping work.Thanks!
