What clients say about Lewis Barbecue Charleston in Charleston Crossroads (SC)

Food was decent, but the portions were pretty small for what they charge. I get that it’s Charleston and prices are higher, but $86 for two people to have a basic, comfortable meal is a stretch. Back in Texas this same meal would’ve been about $40 and you probably would’ve left full. Then at the end being prompted for a tip just felt like the final jab after already paying that much. Not terrible food, but the value just isn’t there for the price. If you’re looking for better BBQ around here, you’re probably better off heading over to Martin’s BBQ instead.

Recently named a bib gourmand in the Michelin Guide’s pass through the American South, Lewis BBQ makes for a great afternoon out with family and friends. There is a variety of seating types, indoor and out to serve whatever crowd you’re traveling with. The brisket is their specialty, but their ribs, sausage links, and sides are on par with what you’re getting elsewhere in Charleston’s BBQ scene, and certainly above what any chain restaurant is serving. The family platter style service and butcher sheet dishes make things move fast, and are ideal for a group of folks to share. The staff was very friendly, not just idle chatter, willing to talk their favorite baseball team or just ask about your Sunday. Don’t miss the options they have for sauce (4 total), which you can try in small plastic ramekins. The bar options for cocktails and beer are outstanding, with the former changing regularly with the season.

Despite having high expectations, Lewis BBQ managed to exceed them. Absolutely superb food. Cannot say enough about it. You should be forewarned that parking onsite isn't great, so plan to walk some; and there can be a long line, but the food is absolutely worth it.

The brisket is magical. We had Michelin rated brisket in Austin at Leroy and Lewis and this easily outdid that. Now, in fairness, the beef cheeks at Leroy and Lewis were the best BBQ I've ever eaten, but this brisket is a close second. The sausage and ribs are good, but once you have the brisket, nothing really compares. The turkey however, is top notch and tender. Ribs and Turkey for life...... I'm not into East Coast style BBQ sauce, but this BBQ doesn't need sauce. The Mac and Cheese is excellent. The greens were ok, but I would get something different next time.

Great atmosphere, counter workers were very friendly and knowledgeable, answering all my questions. We wanted to try it all, so we got it all. Brisket was delicious (and surprisingly it's hard to find good brisket around Holy City), great bark and not dry. We got both kind of homemade sausage, hot guts was my favorite. Pulled pork was amazing, also had fantastic bark. Pork ribs were in point, the rub it's just a bit salty, but good overall. Turkey breast was ok, good flavor, but not sure what actual meat is used, the texture feels "gummy". Don't get me wrong, it's not dry, just feels almost like the "fake" chicken breast that you get at fast food restaurants. The secret BBQ sause was definitely my favorite out of the all, with original red in second place. Fries were delicious. Mac and cheese was fantastic. And last, but not least the lemon curd and raspberry pie is the perfect dessert to end a delicious meal with. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone that is looking for delicious BBQ around Low Country area.

My daughter has Celiacs. They were incredibly accommodating. On top of that, the line was very fast in the middle of a Saturday, about 30 minutes. Best BBQ I’ve had so far, and I’ve had quite a bit around the country. We ate way too much and we didn’t leave feeling sick or uncomfortable. I can’t say enough good things about this place.

I love Lewis. This location and Greenville. I usually share brisket, pulled pork, and smoked turkey, but this time we got brisket nachos + sides. They were great, but the sliced brisket is the way to go. Corn casserole is a must, always. I thought that only having pie (no classic pudding) was a downside, but the banana pudding pie was amazing.

Excellent BBQ! Everything was a 10/10, especially the green chili pudding and brisket! Banana pudding wasn’t our favorite but would definitely recommend this bbq to anyone in the area. Super kind staff!

The brisket sandwich was incredible and huge. Also the sandwich with brisket smoked sausage and pulled pork. Big portions. Mac and cheese and the corn pudding are next level. All the sauces were great. Can’t say enough about this place.

Lewis is our go-to BBQ place to bring our family and friends when they visit Charleston, especially the meat-lovers. We've been to Rodney Scott's, Hometeam, and Swig & Swine, but Lewis is superior in taste and quality. I'm not much of a meat person, but I love all their sides, which is something of an afterthought at a lot of the other BBQ joints in Charleston. I love their Green Chile Corn Pudding, Collard Greens, Beef Tallow Fries, and Potato Salad. My husband loves their Pulled Pork Sandwich, and their Beef Brisket, but truthfully everything is worth trying.

Highly recommend this BBQ restaurant! We always go here for dinner when we visit Charleston. Most of the time there’s a line but it goes by pretty fast & it’s definitely worth the wait! Also for how busy it is, there is always seating available whenever we go. Chelsea is usually the worker serving us bbq & she is always so sweet & friendly! (She deserves a raise!!)

Came here with my husband and when you come in you get a sample of the fatty brisket, it was good. I ended up getting the lean sliced brisket (1/2 lb) and the chopped brisket (1/4 lb) and a side of coleslaw. My husband got the sausage and ribs and theoretically I should have only got 1/4 lb of brisket because 1/2 lb was a lot of meat and I couldn’t finish the chopped brisket. But my goodness was the meat tender, delicious and didn’t even need sauce. I did try the sauces and I liked the original the best, but the meat barely needed any. The coleslaw was tangy, didn’t love it. And my husband also got the chile corn pudding, which had an interesting taste to it, reminded me of a quiche. I also asked for dill pickles on the side. The Diet Coke was also top notch. Will be coming back when we’re in town again!

Slicer and servers were super nice, meats were exactly as advertised 10/10. Spicy sausage was amazing, brisket was tender and delicious, pulled pork was as soft as cotton candy...unreal. Must be smoked for days!

Food and service is great. Fatty cut brisket is tender and melts in your mouth like butter. Pulled pork is good. Didn't love the sausage. Corn pudding would be better without the pepper and add cheese for my tastes. Love the banana pudding pie, the crust is very special.

Some of the best BBQ ever! The brisket is sooooo tender and rich you dont even need sauce, my boyfriend said it was the best brisket he's ever had. And if you do want sauce they have plenty of different delicous sauces to choose from. The hot sausage was my favorite, perfectly spicy and a satisfying snap with every bite. Don't forget to try the smoked turkey, even that lean meat was packed with flavor. The corn pudding was my favorite side and the collard greens are great too. You really can't go wrong with anything you get here.

First of all, super, friendly service from Jackson! His recommendations were top notch (chopped brisket and chicken fried steak)! The sides (collard greens and green chili corn pudding) were out of this world! Next time we come back to Charleston, we're coming here.

The brisket was great. Sliced or chopped and the sides were very tasty. My wife and I generally grade our visits at different restaurants. This place did not disappoint and we rated the experience a 10. The fist 10 we've given out in several years and maybe 40 restaurants. If you are in the area, I recommend you go to Lewis and eat.

I honestly don’t know why it took me so long to come here. This is hands down the best barbecue I’ve had in my life. Every item we tried was incredible, and the portions were unbelievably generous. We loved it so much that we came back three days in a row. The meat was perfectly cooked and literally melted in my mouth. Even the sides stood out — the French fries were excellent, and both the coleslaw and collard greens were full of flavor. They offer four different sauces, and every single one was delicious. On top of the amazing food, every staff member we interacted with was genuinely kind and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Lewis Barbecue truly lives up to the hype and is an absolute must-visit in Charleston.

This is hands down the best barbecue in Charleston. This place is one heck of a spot, and as someone who considers themselves pretty knowledgeable about barbecue, I can confidently say they’re doing a lot of things right. All of the meats are high quality and cooked perfectly. I’d absolutely recommend the turkey, brisket, and pork. The mac and cheese is incredibly cheesy and delicious, and the collard greens are the best I’ve ever had. Every single sauce is a slam dunk, and the pickles are perfectly pickled. The only thing I wouldn’t call a full 10/10 is the slaw; it was good, but I think it would be even better chopped a bit finer. That said, overall this is a must-visit if you’re in Charleston. The atmosphere is family friendly, the staff is warm, and it’s a guaranteed great meal.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.7/5) Visited Lewis Barbecue while in North Charleston and had an excellent overall experience. We built our own platter with fatty and lean brisket, pork ribs, Texas hot links, green chile cheddar sausage, pulled pork, smoked turkey, plus mac and cheese and green chile corn pudding on the side. The brisket was cooked perfectly on both the lean and fatty cuts. The seasoning leaned a bit lighter on salt than my personal preference, but the cook was spot on. The smoked turkey fully lived up to its reputation, especially paired with their green chile sauce. Ribs were very good. The only low point was the sausage, which had good flavor but tougher casings than expected. Ordering was easy and efficient. The interior is well designed with a split ordering and register setup. Cold sweet tea was available, and it appeared they had a full bar as well. For barbecue outside of Texas, this is an excellent option. I would absolutely return and even took leftovers back to the hotel. Highly recommended.

So good! Loved up to its hype. Everything we ordered was spot on. Delicious, fall off the bone ribs. Brisket (on the fatty end), the pulled proj superb. Of the sides we ordered all were amazing : corn pudding, coleslaw and tallow fried fries. Friendly staff. Overall if you are in for bbq, this IS the spot!

Outstanding experience from start to finish. Huge shoutout to Quin, who helped us navigate a big order with a smile—cool, calm, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. That kind of service sets the tone before you even take the first bite. The dinosaur beef rib was unreal—perfect balance of smoke, incredibly tender, and not over-smoked. The pork ribs were true fall-off-the-bone perfection, and the brisket was rich, juicy, and absolutely on point. The pickled onions tied everything together beautifully and cut through the richness just right. If I had to offer the only suggestion, it would be adding a slightly spicier barbecue sauce option—but that’s more preference than criticism. All around, well done. Lewis BBQ absolutely lives up to the hype, and Quin made the experience even better. We’ll be back without question. 🔥🥩

Most amazing bbq ! Must go ! The brisket was delicious! Sandwich and nachos ! The Mac n cheese and jalapeño corn dish sides were so good. We tried the lemon raspberry pie and the mint chocolate pie- both were surprisingly delicious! Expect a long line on the weekend. Worth the wait. Puppy friendly with outdoor patio too !

If you want BBQ in Charleston, this is the place. I’ve tried most of the local spots, and Lewis BBQ consistently comes out on top. Whenever I have friends in from out of town, this is the one place we always make a point to visit. I’ve never had a dish here that wasn’t great. I don’t even like turkey, yet I order a full pound of their sliced turkey every time because it’s that good. And whatever you do, don’t skip the Green Chili BBQ sauce. The corn pudding, mac and cheese, late-night nachos, sandwiches—everything hits. They also have a great bar with solid drinks; the frozen mule is fantastic. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with comfy seating and plenty of space outside. Expect a line, but it moves quickly and is absolutely worth it.

Waited a whole year to come back to this place. Food is homey and comforting. We really like the pulled pork, Mac n cheese and the banana pudding. Oh and don't forget the sweet tea! We got lucky and found a spot in their parking lot. The wait in line was about 30 minutes but well worth it and the drive from Summerville. Every time we are out this way we will stop here. They ship everything nationwide now so we're going to order some for our friends and family to try it.

I highly recommend this restaurant! Haley, Will, and Nolan provided an amazing experience! They were personable, helpful with questions, and make sure my family visiting was taken care of. My food was absolutely amazing and a pretty good price based on serving size. The brisket was amazing as well! I will definitely be returning!

We are always in the prowl for best bbq. We only ever thought Mad Jacks in Cloud Croft New Mexico was the only best place; Lewis BBQ has exceeded our expectations! Best brisket and turkey we have ever had! Its a bonus, since we are from NM/AZ that they use Hatch Green chilis in their food! That makes it absolutely incredible to even find Hatch green chili anything in the south! Very very highly recommended!!

First time. Definitely reminds me of Texas brisket in the DFW area. The pulled pork blew me away. Moist , tender and very flavorful. Coleslaw was completely different from any coleslaw I have had. It was good and refreshing though. Definitely give this a place try if you're in Charleston

My husband keeps saying how good Lewis BBQ was! The brisket was the best he says he ever had. The turkey was mwlt in your mouth and crazy moist! My son enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich. The brisket nachos were a meal themselves and were tasty. The Mac and cheese and tallow fries were delectable. We also got the potato salad and a hunk of cheddar cheese, both are very good. The potato salad has a vinegar flavor and just wasn't what we ate used to. That restaurant has a great atmosphere. The location of the drinks is a little backwards and is back by where you order food rather than being after the checkout. Parking also was a little hard as the small parking lot was full so we had to find street parking a street away but helped get a short walk in after our huge meal. We will definitely return if we are ever in the area again. May have to convince my husband to book a cruise out of Charleston just to have an excuse to return!
