This used to be Willow Grove Naval Air Station—Navy and USMC active and reserve squadrons were based here when they weren’t aboard carriers. It’s been closed for years now, pretty much at the same time the Philadelphia Navy Yards shut down. After the Navy moved out, the PA Air National Guard moved in. Then it was closed for good when when the ANG Squadron here was re-based to Fort Dix, NJ.
It's a mostly shuttered military airport. I believe the army national guard still operates on one small portion though. I can't believe the 1 star reviews... One complaint is that there's no commissary or navy credit union, sure, the Navy isn't there anymore, why would they still be open? Another calls it an aircraft junkyard... That's not a junkyard, it's an aircraft museum! I'd hate to hear what they would say about both National Air & Space museums in DC and VA!
Whoever drives this vehicle poses an extreme risk to others and himself while on the road. He was tailgating a semi for miles and repeatedly had to slam on his brakes.

This WAS the *US NAVY BASE, that I was inducted in the Reserves in 1986..*I was very disappointed* on my visit a few yrs ago, I was looking for the commissary & other stores all gone, no Navy Fed Credit Union either..its now outside, Down the road...hopefully the Base will be Restored one day..Very SAD !
I could be wrong but I believe this used to be an Naval Air Station where the aircraft from Carriers would fly to when a carrier came into port. It has been a long time since an active duty carrier docked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. But it is now an Air National Guard base with a few other detachments in house. There is still activity. There is also a small museum. The old Warminster base was fully BRAC'ed but a few left over facilities are still there, although none there are owned by the military anymore. It is fully private or owned by the local or state government.
I must say visiting P.A this place caught my attention, looked interesting but I was like wow what is all this unused area with old aircrafts etc in it ...isk how long this has been like this but if I were a resident I wouldn't want to have a huge junkyard of unused buildings and aircrafts. Seems U.S just leaves Our money everywhere "cough" Afghanistan
We spend trillions of dollars on the military and this place is a run down disgraceful mess....where does all the money go?!?! Oh thats right , politicians pockets
It seems mostly closed and deserted. I think it was on the BRAC list so many years ago. However it seems like there's a few activities that still take place here. Don't bother coming for a commissary or PX or any of those sorts of things though. Pretty sure that's not what's here. The one building that I did go to for training seem pretty nice. You cannot drink the water here for chemical contamination. That should tell you something that's why it's not a nice giant park or subdivision yet.
