What clients say about Lackawanna Recycling Center in Scranton (PA)

I hate this place. A lot of the workers seem to hate being here, too, which I totally get. But that’s not my fault when I’m just coming to try to exercise some supposed environmental stewardship. There are a few nice folks, but they are few and far between. And God forbid you do the wrong thing or go to the wrong place with your recycling – having missed or misread the small and poorly-constructed signage (IF there is signage at all)! You will get chewed out as though you failed to cut someone’s last paycheck. The place itself is, well…a dump. And yes, I know it’s a recycling center, but it doesn’t need to just be disgusting and a mess with trash flying around and broken glass everywhere. The place seems to be open whenever it feels like, with the hours only maybe matching what’s posted, depending on the whims of…whomever? And those hours certainly hardly ever precisely match what’s posted on Google, even as that changes periodically to try to keep up with ever-shifting reality. But it makes sense that it’s not open on weekends: I’m sure the vast majority of recyclers are non-workers who are free all week everyday during the day from morning to mid-afternoon. To be the only option of this kind in our area (as far as I’m aware) and so raggedy just feeds into the “who-cares-whatever” movement around recycling and environmental responsibility/sustainability. I don’t have kids, so I honestly couldn’t care less about the future – at least not for humans. They get what they deserve. Yet, somehow, I’m still the one seeming to care way more for the future of this beautiful and abundantly fertile planet (for the plants and animals, really) than all the people trashing it up who can’t keep their legs closed. Go figure 🤷♂️.

Absolutely useless. Outrageous fees, and they won't even accept lawn waste, forcing residents to bag their leaves with the normal trash. So much for the environment. This place needs to be closed.

Someone should clean all that litter up that blows around. Hell I'd come do it for free, looks terrible.if it were just secluded to recycling center wouldn't be so bad but it blows under the fence and back into the river. Kills wildlife. Lmk , I will gladly volunteer to come clean it up.

Make sure when ever you come to this place be careful from scale because scale is not in right place and so many truck broke here this place manager doesn’t care about this

Nice people fast loafing. Be sure to follow these instructions if coming with a large truck. 81N exit 190 (dickson city/main ) turn right onto main then go to boulevard Ave and turn right. Go under bridge then immediately turn right into customer. Be sure to go left of scalehouse then go right into line if cars to set up to back onto scale. Do not turn onto scale from road you won't make the turn.

Went to drop off a pickup full of brush and was told that it is $65 to dump any amount up to 2000 lbs. Ridiculous. At that price who is going to pay it for yard waste? Just encourages illegal dumping. Good job Lackawanna County!

leaf and grass disposal was always free now they want to charge brush prices for it... sounds fair but they just tripled the brush price! what business triples its price over night. goes from free to triple. leaves are often very wet so you are paying to dump water at triple the price. what a joke of an operation owned by a local billionaire.
