Heat Was in the 90s but visit to this place helped cool me off water level wasn't very high. I love nature so spent an easy 2 hours there. Most visits are probably between 20 and 40 min.
I read the reviews prior to going with my family due to seeing how many people couldn't properly explore the cave from lack of intense light. We bought a cheap portable work light and oh my goodness we were able to explore so deep we physically could not go further because of the water level sooooo some of our family members went further UP into the nooks of the cave until they said the space became too tight to safely enter. Definitely bring a heavy duty light to illuminate the entire cave you're shining towards to keep everyone safe and explore until you can't ? We stayed a good 40 minutes outside of the cave just exploring the terrain and taking in the peace of the flowing water. Parking is literally a small section off the road full of tiny rocks so listen to your GPS when it tells you; You Have Arrived. We went with a 6 year old and she did great and was able to venture around as much as we did (with assistance). We chose to go the scenic route to see the spacious extended Amish community from afar.
This place is not seen for its real beauty, whoever is fixing the area up is doing a wonderful job! So future explorers don't mind the updates that are taking place. Parking is right along the road but it's not heavily traveled so not to big of a deal, leaving the Parking lot to begin your walk down into the cave is maybe 300yrds i think there was 20 or 22 steps and that's it. The cave itself is amazing, I didn't get to explore just how far it went under ground but I know I couldn't see the end, definitely take a good flashlight and some muck boots or rubber boots whatever fits your fancy.
Amazing place be sure to get permit and always protect the cave and it's ecosystem please don't damage or deface the cave. Be sure to always have clean gear to help prevent ecosystem contamination. Always be careful and safe this cave has water flowing and can be affected by the weather.
Cute little cave did not go in too far, not enough light. We definitely needed bigger flashlights. Quite a bit of steps down. Take a really powerful light and wear waterproof boots.
I have visited twice. The first time we found it on accident and didn't have the permit. This time we got the permit and had such an amazing time exploring the cave. It's so creepy, unbelievably beautiful and makes you really appreciate what this world has to offer. Us humans don't deserve the beauty around us. If you go, be prepared to get wet, say hi to a few spiders and possibly a bit of mud if you're really into exploring like my kid and I.
Great easy cave visit. You will get wet upto ankles. Wear boots to stay dry. Maybe 300ft back from entrance to end of cave. Cave does keep going underwater but no diving signs are posted. Very dog friendly
Easy access with parking nearby. One of a kind unique geologic location with some amazing rock formations. Discovered in 1788 by a few men chasing two Indians. The native Indians were never found leading to believe the cave had an exit. The cave may have an exit but you’re not doing it without scuba gear which is strictly prohibited. The cave exits the mountain about one mile away. We were able to walk about half a mile before we had to turn back. Would suggest knee high waterproof boots for next time. Remember when caving get in and get out relatively quickly without disturbing anything the best you can.
The cavern was flooded due to a month of rain, so we did not go far into the cave due to having a small child with us. There is very limited parking with no amenities. Plenty of trails to explore in the area
Very awesome cave to explore. If you plan on goin far in make sure you bring head lamps or waterproof flashlights. Also check the weather dont go in if it rained recently or is going to rain because it could flash flood.
The cave was awesome! Best explored with some good flashlights. It's not too far off the road and easy access. There was little difficulty walking back into the cave.
This place is so unique and interesting! I'm not experienced in cave exploring or spelunking at all but was able to do some exploring with a flashlight and a sturdy pair of shoes. Very neat experience.
Brilliantly preserved cave system which you can fully explore with friends and family. Bring flashlights because it gets dark quickly, with no artificial light provided. Also be prepared to remove footwear if you plan on getting in to the deeper areas as the water levels vary.
This is not a large area but it is something you just have to see to believe with water gushing up right out of the ridge floor, then in less than 50 yards being completly swallowed again in the mouth of a large cave. The whole thing is located in a stadium like gorge and when standing in the bottom area there is a feeling of being watched like nature spirits guard this place. Add to that in rainy weather there are waterfalls at the entrance and you can hear a low beating sound as if this place has it's own heartbeat. I keep going back, it is a true natural wonder.
A beautiful unique place, that is just off the road. It is a rocky hole where (I think) a section of the roof of a cavern, with a steam flowing through it, has collapsed. You can see the stream emerging from one wall, flowing about 150 feet, and then disappearing into the cave opening in the opposite wall. Interestingly the stream then re-emerges about 2000 feet away at Arch Spring, which you can see from your car on the road to Tytoona. At Tytoona there are about 60 wood steps to the bottom, where you can wade in the stream or walk into the cave, but you can still see everything by only going down about 5 of them. The stairs are only about 200 feet from the limited roadside parking, so it only takes 5 minutes to see this pretty spot. I think caution is needed if one goes into the cave, because it is open, and I saw on the website that it goes for some distance, and there is no one there, other than visitors, to help if one gets into trouble.
Beautiful place to visit. Free to visit, though no trespassing after dark. The water is cool and refreshing and the area provides a very mild hike. You are able to go inside the cave, but bring lights and be cautious of water levels. Currents can get strong with high water levels.
Tytoona cave has been a frequent stop for me anytime I go through sinking valley. It is a surreal site that is unlike most scenery in the area. Take your time and journey into the cave with a flashlight and a confident individual. It is a unique experience that is easily accessible in comparison to many other caves of this size. It can be hazardous if you are inexperienced, so be sure to stay on your comfort zone. Also, be wary of the fast moving water, this is in a low area and can be prone to flash flooding. Be sure to check weather before heading into the cave.
Also remember, no diving!
Nothing colder than standing in front of a cave out of any direct sun light in air temperature of 15 degrees. Very interesting. I want to go back in much warner weather and explore it further.
