This store is further from where I live than NAPA or Autozone, but I will gladly make the drive. They nearly always have the parts that I need or they get it within 24 hours and their prices are very competitive. I can't say enough good things about them. I understand that they have a great rep with local mechanics as well.
My car battery died and needed replaced. I drive in to Carquest and asked if they do free installs if I buy a new one and Dave, the owner, said yes. I told him the make and model of my car and he said, "ah, that's a tricky one to replace." I told him "I know, I watched a YouTube video and knew I couldn't do it myself." It was about 3:15 when I arrived, and it was just after a snowstorm. I told Dave I could leave the car and have a friend pick me up, but he graciously said, "let's see what we can do." For the next hour, he skillfully removed a half dozen pieces required to get to the battery, successfully removed it and installed the new one, while all the while maintaining a friendly and professional attitude. Funny thing is, I was in Dave's store 2 years ago to have my battery checked before a long road trip, and Dave said it was fine and we should have no problems with it. He was right, it worked fine throughout a 15,000 mile road trip. I was impressed at the time because he didn't try to sell me a new battthen. That was very honest of him. I am glad that I was able to get the new battery now from him. I would highly recommend Carquest in Kill Devil Hills for your auto parts needs. Dave is fair and a very nice person to deal with.
J.R. went above and beyond locating a specific gasket instead of the entire fuel pump while I was in OBX vacation. Due to shipping time and end of vac I chose to limp the car home. At home NOBODY could find the part and tried to sell me the entire full pump. I called JR hoping he remembered me and could locate the part number. He not only did that, but called the dealership with the exact description and part number. 20 bucks instead of $1000.00. They just dont make enough people like JR anymore. Carquest hired a great employee and an even better person in JR. I will be sure to stop back in during next years visit to appropriately express my gratitude.

We had a check engine light come on and we needs to get a code read. I went to Auto Zone and the employees there couldn’t figure it out. Next I went to Carquest where they were super helpful and a young gentleman read our code in a minute and told me exactly what was going on. I then bought the parts I needed to fix the car. I bought the parts there for a reasonable price and they let me borrow tools and I was able to fix the car in 10 minutes time and feel confident we can drive another 3,000 miles back to California. These guys are great!
Recently bought an faulty part from this store. And the owner accused me of mus handling the product. The shop technician doing the work says it's a common problem! Wouldn't give me a new one or my money back! Terrible place to do business!!!!

Got up this morning and my truck wouldn't start..called when they opened and they sent the parts driver to give me a jump..I followed her to the store where they put in a new battery and would not accept any money for there time...Great Costumer Service...can't Thank Y'all Enough!!!
Needed to do an emergency repair while on vacation. Not only did they loan me the tools to do the work, they helped me break loose a lug nut I was not able to get. The local auto zone would not loan me tools and said I would have to buy them so carquest is the place to do business down here
Steve was amazing! He went above and beyond to help us with our alternator. We just so happened to pull right into carquest when our truck gave out and died. Thankfully, they had one alternator left that would fit. Very thankful we came here when we did! Everyone we encountered was so welcoming and nice. They helped us with code readers, battery jumpers, tools and more! Our truck is running great now. Thank you Steve! We appreciate you more than you know.
My family drives out to the OBX every June from Ohio. This year while driving through the mountains in Virginia, my car started having some minor acceleration issues. Calling around Monday morning to try to get someone to let me know if my car is going to blow up while driving home, everywhere was booked up basically till the end of the week. I called Car Quest and got to chat with Lee, and he told me I could come by anytime, same day! We headed over shortly after the call, met Lee and he came out and checked my car out for me right after walking in the door. He reassured me that everything was alright, got me set up with some oil and said we could pop by anytime the rest of the week if we had any other hiccups. Super friendly and fast service, will definitely give them a call if we have any other trouble on vacation going forward! They also have two of the BEST shop dogs around :)
Stopped by after a long drive from Ohio to get the car checked out. Lee, the guy who helped us out, was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and we will go to him first with any questions or needs anytime we come to the OBX.
Wish there were more stars!! Battery light came on en route for Hatteras trip, heart sank. Stopped here to see if they could hook it up and check it out. Sure enough, alternator was dead. Not only did they have a replacement in stock but David went above and beyond helping me out with tools, time , and invaluable assistance!!! Totally saved our trip!!!!!
Not only did we drive away in a fixed van but kinda restored my faith in humanity!!

Needed a battery while on vacation, called ahead after autozone didn’t have what I needed. These guys did and installed it immediately with no service fee, which was nice because we were staying in Corolla and it would’ve sucked to have to wait around or come back (45 min drive). Highly recommend!
Stopped by to see what was up with our Nissan Pathfinder sluggish start. We thought it was the key battery, but the gentleman working came out checked the charge on the car battery and diagnosed it as the problem and replaced it. We were back on the road in 20 minutes. Hate to think the family stranded out somewhere, but stopping at the Carquest and getting help prevented us getting stuck. Thank you!
I had the identical experience as a prior reviewer: small Phillips head screw in my tire, no shops open or interested in fixing it before I had to head home. And exactly the same experience at CarQuest: sold me a tire plug kit and let me borrow a pair of pliers. I fixed it myself in the parking lot. These folks were helpful and efficient - great experience.
I was on vacation in OBX first time there. After shopping with my wife at the Christmas store down the road my tire pressure warning came on I stopped and checked it out large screw Philips head protruding from my tire. No big deal it needed plugged did not even have to be removed from car so I thought. I stopped at two repair shops next to each other they said they could get to it in a week then I stopped at a Meineke garage across the road she said her tire guy was off all week she could fit me in next week. I did not realize that a tire specialist was needed to plug a tire. Finally I stopped at a father and son Car quest store they sold me the tire plugging kit and let me use their air compressor and a pair of pliers it literally took 5 minutes . These guys are awesome businessmen and I will forever be grateful then they asked me to use their sink to wash my hands the whole experience was awesome!
So where to start coming home to Maryland from our week long vacation we were hitting the local shops in nags head we had 3 dogs with us my wife,1 year old daughter and mother in law and left the dogs in the van while we ran in to a shop real quick with the a/c blasting upon us coming back out our van had stopped running… me coming from a mechanic background I started diagnosing coming to the conclusion that the fuel pump had failed. After hours of trying to call shops in the area and hearing time after time we are at least a week out I decided to take things into my own hands. I called every parts supplier on the island and I finally got in touch with Dave who was amazing and everyone informed me it would be 3-4 days before I could get a replacement sending unit and I just couldn’t fathom that so I asked for different options to just replace the pump and we came up with a few cross over numbers that might work and Dave ordered them in after a 2 mile walk to the parts store Dave gladly gave me a ride back to the van so I could get it towed and the next day when the parts came in after another 2 mile walk Dave gave me a ride back to the van we’re the Hyundai fuel pump that was never supposed to be in a Honda Odyssey worked like a charm and produced the same specs as the or pump. we saved thousands in repairs with about an hour of work with a Phillip’s and flat head screw driver the van was good as new. These guys here go above and beyond and are top notch and knowledgeable and saved me so much time and aggravation dealing with a shop.

I had an alternator going bad. I called them and the man that answered was extremely polite and he showed one in stock and he put his hands on it to make sure it was there. I made sure with him that it was ok to swap it out on their lot and he said it was ok to do so. I went and changed the part and I turned in the core and without asking he showed me where I could wash my hands. I would recommend this parts store to anyone!
I come down to the OBX often and I always stop by carquest when I'm there, the 1st time I visited there I had a bad battery and turned away from auto zone, I went down the road to Carquest and the woman in there immediately said no problem and she changed my battery and got me on my way, I was down again this past weekend and was having issues on my wife's vehicle and once again the lady, who I now know as Tammy jumped on it and fixed it, I will come back to this store every time, not only because the price is good but because this woman is always smiling and helpful and never takes a second thought to jump in and help, thank you for all your help
They really helped me out today by being able to mix a paint color to match my vehicle. Would highly recommend if you are looking for a specific color and quality guidance on application.
My girlfriend and I were traveling on S. Croatan Hwy when our passenger-side front window was busted out by debris at 50 MPH. After filing a police report and cleaning up the mess, we set out to find plastic and tape to keep the AC in and the possible rain out. We happened by this Carquest and stopped to see if they might have something that would work. The gentlemen behind the counter not only had a roll of crash tape, but he even applied it for us, and he allowed me to use his shop vac to clean up the broken glass in the window frame and car seat. He charged me a ridiculously low price, and even though I offered him more money, he refused to take it. Southern Hospitality at it's finest!
I really enjoy going in this store, the owner is wonderful and the employees are smart and friendly...they have always treated everyone with respect and have great prices!! The dogs are a very big plus to why I go in there, I will return to this store!!!
Thanks to David and everyone at Carquest in KDH. They helped me with my issue, could not have been nicer, and their prices were good. I would definitely go back and recommend them. Even though I was a tourist they made me feel like I was home!
