Mohonk does not honor prices. Called, received a quote for a special anniversary weekend. Called back a week later (after discussing with my husband) ready to book. This was still within the "Book by March 15th" window, to get the discount. They wanted to charge an extra $150 a night. Would not honor the quote. So disappointing, especially considering we are repeat customers.

Mohonk is the perfect destination for a long weekend. There are endless family friendly activities, the staff is incredibly accommodating, the food is delicious, and the scenery is beautiful. Our hotel room was very comfortable and quiet with a working fireplace. I can’t wait to visit again!

Mohonk Mountain House is a spectacular 1st class hotel. I was invited to spend the day there, which cost money and I am not aware of the fee since I was a guest. The hotel staff make you feel special from the moment you arrive. The interior is old world charm with beautiful wooden carved staircases and the outside has stone arches, balconies with rocking chairs with amazing views. We visited in November so we didn’t enjoy all the amenities but we did the hike to the top of the mountain and enjoyed the views on the way up. I really didn’t want to leave that day and cannot wait to go back again and spent the night.

What a wonderful place. My wife and I spent the weekend on the two coldest days Feb 6&7. The snow was great for cross country skiing, snowshoeing and ice skating all on property and all included. The breakfast, lunch and dinner are also included with an incredible variety. My wife happened to read about it in the NY Times. The facility is enormous in size over 300 rooms.I strongly recommend trying this place out.

This place is a diffrent type of Getaway. We stayed here on a Jazz weekend. The talent that we seen was just amazing. The food is top notch, whether it was Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner. We took the Kitchen tour just to see what happens behind the scenes, and we were not disappointed at all. The Executive Chef, Jim Palmeri, gave us the tour. He lead us to each part of the kitchen and showed us what each station was, and how the Chefs prepared the food. The way that he interacted with the other Chefs, you can tell that there was a lot of love in the Kitchen. And where there's love in the Kitchen, that love goes into the food. This place is a Fairytale Castle stay.

Spending 2 nights at this historic hotel was a really memorable experience. The front desk staff weren’t especially friendly, but the restaurant staff were welcoming. The food quality was average, yet there was a wide variety, so it always felt plentiful. The room we got in the back on the first floor wasn’t ideal, but we loved the fireplace in the room. There was so much to enjoy both inside the hotel and around the area that the entire stay felt relaxed and fun. And the evening music performance was absolutely beautiful, easily one of the highlights of the trip.

We went to this spa on January 12th, and the experience was completely disappointing. We paid $505 for two massages, which were supposed to be Swedish and Deep Tissue. What we received cannot be called a massage at all. The therapists barely applied any pressure — they simply spread cream on our bodies and lightly touched us. It felt like they didn’t want to put in even a minimal amount of effort. At first, I tried to give it the benefit of the doubt, thinking maybe it was just the beginning, but it stayed exactly the same until the very end. There was absolutely nothing resembling deep tissue work. It was frustrating and honestly irritating to pay that amount of money for such a careless, ineffective service. A complete waste of both time and money. On top of that, I lost an earring in the changing room. I called the spa multiple times the next day, spent nearly an hour on the phone, and no one ever answered. More than a week later, I received a robot call from them asking to confirm my identity. Completely unprofessional and bizarre. I do not recommend this place.

Service: First off, there was an hour long wait in the car for valet/baggage drop off. Then room wasn’t ready at promised time for us (and many other disgruntled families in the lobby). There was no record of the dinner reservations I made in advance so they had to scramble to give us a table. Room: Second, the walls are paper thin in the rooms. You can hear every cough, sneeze, conversation, footstep of your neighbors above and below. No blackouts curtains. So good luck getting a good nights sleep with noise and light. There’s a crying baby in the room next to us. Food: barely a step above a sodexho dining hall. It’s the quality of a cafeteria. For 2k a night, you can stay at the ritz in the Caribbean. Mohonk is not even a step above a holiday inn. The guest services could care less. It’s a factory here. Not an apology for hour long wait to get to the front door, no apology for room not being ready. The manager said “check in starts at 4 but we don’t guarantee 4pm.” Bizarre. Especially since I called in advance and they told me check in was at 4. Also, pool is quite chilly. All of the families with little kids were complaining about it. Rooms are gross… Covered in a layer of dust. We had a dirty towel in our room too

Absolutely terrible service. We were required to change rooms mid-stay and were promised priority and a smooth transition. The opposite happened. Each time we asked for an update, staff said they didn’t know, had no timeline, and that the room could not be prioritized. At 1:00 p.m., we were told the room was being cleaned, yet by 4:00 p.m. it was still unavailable, with visible annoyance when we asked for updates. Had we known this would be the case, we never would have agreed to move rooms. Traveling with three kids and having no place to settle for hours is unacceptable.

Had a excellent visit to the Mohonk Mountain House. Despite reading from a few reviews that there wasn't a lot to do I found that completely incorrect. There is PLENTY to do whether your the type to want to sit and read in a quiet lounge or library or always active with activities I found it was suited for both. We stayed for 3 days and it snowed during our stay which made the experience better in my opinion. The Christmas lights with the snow or the hiking just made it seem very pleasant and beautiful. Restaurants were both good, Main was better then the Lounge in my opinion, we had a great server named Chelsey. Played Billards with my family and scrabble by a open fire in the lake lounge. Ice Skating was great both during the day and at night and the hiking was pretty good. Overall I would definitely come back in the future.

A little old, early American. I wouldn't modernize it though. The lodge feel definitely reminded me of Dirty Dancing. There was even a drink on the menu that was called "Nobody puts Baby in the corner". The food was absolutely amazing. Next time I would request a room in the original building with a balcony overlooking the lake & cliff.

We had a lovely weekend getaway here! The fireplace in the room added a special touch. Brunch was amazing. Dinner was very special - our waiter, Denes, made sure that we were taken care of each evening. He literally sought us out and made sure that we seat in his section, which made us feel like VIPs. The spa was lovely, especially the outside section. We’d gladly come back!

Room was ok, not too big but it was a discount rate. The 3 stars is for the food. It was just 'meh', which is really disappointing for the price of the rooms with meals. It was institutional type food, the type you get at a school or work cafeteria. For the prices they charge, they should really do better.

This review refers to the spa located within the hotel complex. To celebrate our wedding anniversary, we booked a couples massage and arrived on a snowy winter day, an experience in itself. The spa facilities are truly impressive, and the massage was exceptional. The therapists were highly professional, and the overall experience was outstanding. Although it’s a two-hour drive each way from Manhattan, it is absolutely worth the effort.

Fabulous old school resort with a wide variety of activities. Meals are included and are delicious. Great variety and top quality food at every meal. The staff is friendly and helpful. The setting is awe inspiring. Love this place!

Beautiful mountain getaway . Great place to go and disconnect. Trails upon trails to choose from to walk and hike. Beautiful lake and tons and tons of activities. Great place to visit anytime of year to experience the mountains of upstate New York and the history of this beautiful reserve. The rooms are clean and well appointed yet make you feel like you’re in the early 1900’s… can’t wait to come back

This is a wonderful resort. We came here during Christmas. The resort is immaculate. The dining service is wonderful. With breakfast lunch and dinner included in the resort fee. The entire place was decorated head to toe with Christmas decorations, winners and runner ups of a gingerbread house competition. There was evening entertainment and a hannukah celebration. This is def our Christmas place from now on though we will try it in the summer as well

We return for a few nights at Mohonk each year, and this year I came with my daughter for a mother/daughter getaway. I love the charm and style of the hotel, though do agree with the noise factor of the rooms, and our room placement this trip only added to that. The change-over a few years back to buffet breakfast and lunch has diminished that experience, unfortunately. My 1st night dinner was a deliciously prepared chicken. The 2nd night was disappointing as the menu listed a "squid ink tagliatelle with shrimp". The pasta was NOT squid ink, the shrimp were a few tiny canned shrimp, and the pasta dish was very gluey and obviously pre-cooked and not stored properly to maintain its texture. I did ask why it was advertised as squid ink pasta when it clearly wasn't but did not receive an answer. Disappointing experience for the price level of Mohonk, and I did not eat more than a few bites of this dish. As usual all staff is kind and accommodating. The grounds as always are beautiful. The spa is a wonderful experience all around and a great day of pampering.

The environment and scenery is stunning and the activities taking advantage of it are amazing. The building oozes charm and staff are wonderful. It is the kind of place a large group of different ages/interests could all find different things to do and meet up for meals. Issues? The food was plentiful, but a bit up and down for being line with the level they are going for. The fact is it is a BIG TICKET destination l, so I'd expect to be wowwed more than I was.

The place is beautiful. Lots of hiking to be done. Rooms are amazing and look recently renovated. Staff was amazing. Catered to any need you had. Lunch and brunch outstanding. We went Friday thru Sunday. The only issue was Friday nights dinner. It was horrible. Food not cooked properly. I had to send mine back 3 times as it always came out cold. Th at was disappointing for the level of service you expect going in.

This feels like one of New York's best kept secrets! For the price of a day pass, which the current going rate is $150, you have access to hike the grounds, an afternoon coffee, a beautiful dinner, a talented band, and a transportation to a different time! Or atleast my boyfriend and I did when we spent our anniversary here in early Novemember. The views are so immaculate we seriously began to picture having our wedding here! Tucked away in the mountains this charming European style mountain house offers a ski resort feel with plenty of fall activities too. I recommend everyone come here to experience a magical, Disney like escape from reality❤️

disclaimer: I was here for one night during November of 2025. both adults, no children. -This place is really beautiful! I visited the property a few years ago (as guests are not allowed to view the property without paying) and I just loved it. I had also heard several people I know saying that they enjoyed coming here. So I decided to try it out during the off season! -The rooms are very nice and there are many options so you can fit just 2 people, or a whole family! -With the price most activities, gym, pool, meals (breakfast and dinner, I believe that you can pay extra to get the lunch) are all included. -Coffee and tea is provided in the morning to the afternoon, and then there is afternoon tea in the afternoons from 4-5pm. -This place is very conveniently located which I like. New York state is filled with so many gorgeous places, but for someone who it not a New Yorker, it can take hours and hours to get to, this place not being too far North is relatively convenient as someone who is coming from a state that is South of New York state. -the spa is not included in the price, but I wish there were some spa facilities guests could use included, like a sauna -gym is nice, it is fairly small. Open from 7am-7pm which I feel like closing at 7pm is a bit early. But it is clean and I like that you have to sign in to go to the gym so it does not get too crowded. -this place is very well known for the food. As a vegan I personally did not love the food but there were options. The butternut squash soup was so good and the vegan ice cream at dessert was amazing. -the nature around here is just stunning. room clean, staff friendly. -very family friendly -hiking trails! -some rooms have fireplaces for an extra cost -no TV in the room which I enjoyed a lot overall, I really enjoyed this resort, it is not terribly far from me which is a big plus, I would return if I could find a deal. Would maybe utilize the day or hiking pass again as I am a bit on a budget. I can imagine this place is very busy in the summertime and going out on the water would be a lot of fun

It was our first overnight visit and we stayed two nights (10/22-24/2025) having also arranged to celebrate a birthday and an anniversary. Our room seemed smaller than the "Victorian King" that was pictured on-line ($1500/night).There was just enough room to walk around the bed. There were enough outlets for a variety of devices to charge, but the walls are thin and one hears every cough and laugh in the halls and next door. The overhead fan was too creaky to use, but the heating system was good. Our balcony door was tricky to unlock. We had a view of the back drive so we didn't really use the balcony. We didn't use the fireplace either (too cramped for a fire in our opinion). All the warm weather recreation options had been shut down by Oct. I called ahead, but the spa was already fully booked, so we played a lot of cards. It was too chilly (for us) to hike so it was an indoor experience. We had a great private tour of the house for $130 and enjoyed a free evening lecture about Sarah Smiley. Meal seating is randomized, so good luck if you want to dine by a window. We had five meals and never had a window table, although people seated after us did. The food was delicious and the service was fine, although we had to send back our lamb entrees for being too "blue". Their drinks are pricey. I could buy a whole bottle for the price of two vodkas. They confused our anniversary date arrangement with the birthday date. For our anniversary on the first night I special ordered a cake to be delivered to our room for $60(!) that was twice as big as I wanted. Instead of a 6"-two-layer cake they made an 8"-four-layer cake. It was too large for the tiny fridge in the closet, and it needed refrigeration, so we tossed it because it was delivered on the day they also provided their own birthday surprise. It was spoiled by the next day. Very disappointing and wasteful. The hotel was to us very much like an independent living set-up: you have a room for sleeping, cleaning up, and storing your things, and all other activities (such as watching TV) are in common rooms. Because school had started, there were mostly older folks staying while we were there. The building is historically interesting and worth the trip, but I have no desire to do it again. We could have stayed through lunch on the last day but decided to leave early (10 am).

I just wanted to come on here and leave a great review specifically for the guest services and valet team at Mohonk Mountain House. I was able to visit with a day hiking pass from my local library — an awesome opportunity for people who want to enjoy the beauty of this property without the typical cost. I originally thought the pass allowed parking at the Mountain House, but we were redirected to Spring Farm and learned it would be about a two-hour hike to reach the Lemon Squeeze and the Mountain House area. After doing my own research, I realized it was closer to about an hour and 15 minutes, so we went for it. We had a great hike, loved the experience, and enjoyed the incredible views — but by the time we finished, daylight had gotten away from us. Our plan was to grab an Uber back down to our car, and the front desk told us to wait at the entrance — but after 25 minutes with no driver (and quickly dying phones), we found out from the valet team that Ubers and taxis actually aren’t allowed past the Gatehouse. At that point we were exhausted, unsure what to do, and really didn’t want to hike back down in the dark. This is where the staff truly went above and beyond. Even though it’s not something they normally do for day guests, the valet team and managers stepped up and arranged a ride for us down to the Gatehouse. Jacob, who drove us, was incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional. Thanks to them, we safely caught our Uber from the bottom and made it back to our car without a stressful night hike. I am truly grateful for their kindness, hospitality, and willingness to help us out of a tough situation. It turned what could have been a rough ending into a positive memory. We will definitely be more prepared next time, and I can’t thank the valet and guest services team enough! Highly recommend — and thank you again to everyone who helped us!

This establishment was undoubtedly the most exceptional place I have ever visited. They offered a comprehensive menu featuring breakfast, lunch, and dinner, accompanied by coffee and cookies. Additionally, they provided a diverse selection of teas. Our stay lasted approximately five days, and during that time, I refrained from using my phone entirely. It was an ideal retreat that allowed me to disconnect from technology and rejuvenate. The experience precisely met my needs. Furthermore, while I was there, I sustained a muscle strain. Fortunately, the establishment had an in-house doctor who promptly examined me. Moreover, their security staff received specialized EMS training, which I found highly commendable.

The high price is a myth Mohonk is a resort that’s been owned by the same family since the 1860s and they apparently have used the money to keep the place well maintained. For example, this fall they’re building a new bicycle and Tennis center. Reading the reviews I see that there’s a concern that the price is high and the rooms are a little inconsistent. If you think about $1000 a night for a room that sounds very high except you’re not just getting the room. You’re getting three meals which will cost you for two people $350-$400 outside of the resort. You also get a panoply of activities, including Tennis, archery, tomahawk, throwing, mindfulness classes, a wonderful pool, 85 acres of grounds, fishing in the lake (of course the chef doesn’t cook your catch anymore), boating, an on-site, naturalist, beautiful views, lots of places to visit in little nooks and crannies all over the property, including balconies and living room type spots, bicycles and even a game room. They have a gift shop that has all the things you would need including the usual over-the-counter drugs. They supply you with shavers and other toiletries as necessary if requested. On your way out, they give you a sandwich box. These activities are also worth at least another $250 outside especially for two people so, if you add the $350 and $250 you get $600 and then the hotel room is only $400. The overpriced cost is a myth. The other complaint is about the rooms being inconsistent. Yes the rooms are all different, but you remember this hotel is an old hotel and each of the rooms is small, but the bed is wonderful, the plumbing works, and the whole place is well maintained. It’s clean. I’ve been in so many hotels that are straightened out, but is not dust free like this place. You don’t have to spend much time in your room with all the other private spots to hang out. I’ve attached a few photos and I highly recommend going to Mohonk for a great time. I went as a couple, but I think it would be a great family vacation. Good luck explaining the reasonable price at 1000 a night. Oh the price includes gratuities. And it really isn’t necessary to tip.. Focused on the money cause it seemed like that was the main concern. This place is I just a wonderful good time.

The view and nature around Mohonk Mountain House are unmatched peaceful, powerful, and full of reflection energy. You can tell it’s a place built for rest and scenery. However, for the price and reputation, I expected the rooms and service to stand out more. The location is incredible, but the experience could use a little more warmth and consistency to match it. Still worth visiting for the atmosphere alone just hope they level up the details next time. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #LouieKsUp #LegacyInMotion

This historic resort has a mix of rustic and grand mission style architecture and charm. Attracts lodgers, and day visitors alike from every demographic and geographic area imaginable. Aside from the occasionaly boisterous toddler, you will find guests well mannered. Great trails, hikes, and scrambles for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels and ages. The reward for your traverses are some incredible views. Food is mostly continental and classic American fare. If you want to explore ethnic and fusion dishes the Founder's dining room is highly recommended. Best lunches are outdoors at Granary (weather permitting.) Younger adult guests may find the entertainment too esoteric or folksy, but it keeps evenings homey and peaceful. Many activities like horse riding and bikes cost extra. Also, no pets allowed. The resort is also great for weddings and conferences.

The mountain and lake are beautiful! Hotel is lovely but a little dated. Staff were nice. Price was 2-3 times what you would expect but what bothered me was this petty sign on the lotion in my bathroom (“if you choose to take this lotion home, a charge of $65 will be added to your account”). Seriously? They think so little of their guests that they have to warn you not to steal from them? And post the punishment, if you do. So I can’t recommend a stay at the hotel but lunch and a stroll around the property would be a fun way to spend the day.

We stayed at the Mohonk Mountain Resort for the weekend of 9/6 and loved it. The staff was super friendly and went out of their way to help us. Our room had an amazing view of the lake and mountains, and the food was delicious. The Victorian-style room was quiet and cozy. It was a great stay!
