The owner is usually working the front end and is extremely sweet and helpful. They are quite busy so sometimes getting an appointment requires planning but they are honest and do great work. I highly recommend this place.

My car broke down on the side of the interstate near Harriman Motors. They towed me, diagnosed my car, found the problem and fixed it at a reasonable price. Even though I live in Brooklyn, I will be going back to Harriman Motors for future service. Every single interaction I had with them was friendly and kind. They are awesome!

This is a good local car mechanic. Their prices are reasonable (especially on oil changes). I would definitely consider them honest and fair in their recommendations.

Quick oil change, full synthetic and new filters was cheaper than Walmart. Convenient that car wash/vacuum is in the same place. Vacuums sometimes don’t work/have adequate suction though

We got a flat on the highway far from home, and these guys filled us up with air, checked and tightened our lugnuts, and wrote down several tire repair spots in the area, and all for free. Very honest mechanic shop. Would recommend.

Broke down on the Thruway and AAA sent these guys to tow my car. The tow truck driver was very pleasant so figured I'd give them a try was not disappointed. Got me back on the road fast and at a fair price. SCOTT was a pleasure to deal with and kept me up to speed during the whole process. Looks like i got a new mechanic. A+++

I owned a 1986 Ford Tow truck and had the vehicle serviced by Harriman Auto before to replace a leaking bed piston everything was fine. A year later the truck doesn't start I ask them to pick it up from the lot and tow to their shop as I think its a fuel pump. They pick it up and tow it to their shop. They did a charging system test, replaced fuel filter housing bleeder screw, Installed a lift pump they had laying around in the shop, and installed 2 batteries I supplied. Then they tell me my truck was hit by another vehicle in their lot and needs a new passenger door. I said ok accidents happen I am not in a rush since I am selling this truck when its fixed do the best you can and take your time. They let me know the door was replaced the truck is good to go. I ask Scott, the fellow I was dealing with and a woman over there to let me have a customer come look at the vehicle if they buy it I will bring the title and pay them their bill of $1000 from that money, they said ok. Client comes from Maine, 5 hours away and the owner Greg tells them until the bill is paid they will not be looking at any tow truck. The buyer is appalled, I call and beg to pay via credit card feeling bad for these 2 guys that just came from 300 miles away, I am rejected, cash only. The buyers leave. I call and speak to Scott and the woman and say I will send a driver from Brooklyn to pay you the $1000 I owe you but please do me a favor and keep the truck in your yard until I sell it which will be shortly as I am taking any reasonable offer and lost my yard where they picked the vehicle up from. They say no problem once you pay us we can do that for you as we have plenty of space. I send a guy from Brooklyn pay them the $100. Then later I find out from someone that my truck was towed back the yard in Highland Falls quietly and dumped there with no notification from Harriman Auto, my truck was not running (because I think Harriman broke the battery lead on purpose) and blocked in several vehicles and a boat on the property. The owner of the yard which I haven't used in over a year calls another towing service to junk my vehicle which he felt was abandoned. Now my truck is impounded and they want ridiculous money to get it back. I knew I should not have paid Harriman in full until the truck was sold with money in hand. Some great business practices here! People who don't keep their word!

Have been using harriman auto for many yrs. Always professional and friendly. I recently called to inquire about snow tires for my 17 yr.old's car. They were ordered and installed with no delay. Double checked by the owner. Very satisfied as always.

Knew I was coming to get a vehicle from them but I arrive there cars blocked in by a 53 foot trailer and banks of snow.. and the van is covered in snow as well. These guys made me block the entire intersection and try to dig my way under the van to load this thing.. lady behind the counter tho is always super nice and always helping.

I was en route to a wedding in upstate NY when my car started making a weird noise. We pulled off to the closest mechanic and were lucky this was Harriman! I had to get a bit of overdue work done on the car, and they gave me a very fair and appropriate price for results that could be completed within a few hours. Since we had to get to the wedding sooner we rented a car at the Enterprise a few blocks away, and they had a discount with Harriman customers. I was a little skeptical of this place because of it’s lower reviews but I had a perfect experience. All three of the employees I interacted with at Harriman were very considerate and friendly, and I think they went above and beyond to help me out at pickup as well (including giving me a ride back from dropping off my car rental). Also my car drives like new now!

My boyfriend and I had called Harriman Auto off of a recommendation from someone else to tow my car after I had a flat tire with no spare (I have run flats) and was stuck on the Palisades Interstate Parkway. We called them at about 10PM, by 10:15PM we had confirmation from them that they were on their way from Washingtonville and would be to us in roughly 30 minutes give or take. We informed both the dispatcher (possible owner) of the business as well as the driver that we had little to no reception where we were located. We confirmed our location with both parties on multiple occasions, and they assured us they knew where we were and it would be no problem. After waiting for over an hour and a half we called to ask if everything was okay and that they were still coming. They told us that the driver should be to us in about five to ten minutes that he was just hung up with other jobs, fair enough it happens. Over an hour passed after we had called them and we attempted to reach out to them again, this time being after 1AM asking yet again where our tow was. The person at Harriman Auto proceeded to become nasty and angry and said, "Well, the driver called and left you a voicemail and you never answered so he just went home, it'll be at least another 20 minutes before he even gets to you." We yet again explained our lack of cell signal and service and explained we never received a phone call or voicemail most likely due to that reason. The person on the phone over-talked us, and said "I could sit here and argue with you all night about this but I'm not going to, what do you want me to do? Call him and tell him just forget it? Because that's what I'm about to do, you never called him back." We calmly said again we never received any call and were unsure as to why we needed to call back in the first place because we had already confirmed our location, and that they were on their way as well as the situation being that we had limited service. The person on the phone then proceeded to tell us, "Well now I'm not helping you, you can go find someone else to [expletive] help you." and he hung up the phone. I was and still am appalled at the lack of professionalism carried out by this company. I then had to contact State Police/911 who ended up arranging a tow to get to us within 30-45 minutes from when we had contacted them. I will never ever recommend this company to anyone after the absolute lack of professionalism and common courtesy, especially being the fact it was unwarranted and unnecessary for us to be treated in such manner. The state troopers and 911 dispatchers could all understand why we would not be receiving phone calls, and were more than helpful. I'm unsure as to why it was as difficult for this business to understand the circumstances and to leave someone stuck in the middle of the night. This was no misunderstanding or lack of communication, this was just flat out blatant disrespect and bad business practice, and I will let anyone and everyone be aware of it. If I could leave 0 stars I would. UPDATE: Response to owner in pictures, I even have timestamps of us attempting to reach the tow driver and our calls with Harriman Auto directly.

Was told in the truck $5.15 per mile to tow my motorcycle. Then bill comes out at the end and they charged $6 per mile. $146 tow charge on top of the per mile fee. Tow truck driver took the longest route. There was a shorter one without tolls by about 20 miles ($120 extra), but for ease of directions they took the long curvey shot. Nice driver, but wish there was a bit more honesty with this company. I was already down and they kicked me even lower. Glad they were available but very shady way of doing business, would not recommend.

Harriman auto was an absolute life saver. Several weeks ago my car broke down on the NY State Thruway at around 11pm and I was almost two hours from home. Greg picked me up with his tow truck and towed me all the way to my local auto shop. He was extremely kind and helped me understand what had gone wrong with the car and talked me through the best next steps. Greg helped make the whole experience far less stressful and frustrating than it would have otherwise been. I can't speak highly enough about the excellent service at Harriman Auto.

If I could rate less than one star I would. Came in to fix a strut, I was quoted a price without the part at 250. After a single strut was added, the price jumped to 750. I asked for an inspection to be done after the strut was fixed. Instead, my vehicle was inspected before it was fixed (clearly failed) and I was stuck paying for an inspection which I didn't ask for and my old inspection sticker was ripped off my car. Not to mention I was given no 10 day failed inspection note. To add, the blame for this mistake was pushed onto me by one of the employees. Horrible experience, I'll never go back. Every step of this process was a nightmare.

Good place. Family run and they offered a introductory $10 for oil change labor. I haven't done any major service so can't speak to that.

Our check engine light went on as we were traveling back to Rochester with our 2 sleeping babies and a dog. Harriman Auto was great. Jeneane was wonderful! They were quick and we were able to get back on the road.

Harriman Auto is built upon the integrity of Greg, its owner. I have been going to Harriman Auto for 27 years, since before it moved to its present site. Greg has done countless things for me which have earned my loyalty and trust. I talked to him about the way he goes out of his way for his customers. He explained that he considers his job not just repairing cars, but helping people keep their lives in order, as car issues can really wreck a family's plans. Here is the thing: If I take my cars somewhere else and am told I need work on my breaks, I cannot be sure that it is true. But if Harriman Auto tells me, then I know I need work on my breaks. So I cannot and would not take my cars anywhere else. Finally, he has a great motto: If you like our service, tell your friends. If you don't, tell us. And I have had the occasional issue here, but Greg always made good on it. As I said, his business is built on his integrity in a business where reputation is everything.

Ok long and short of it-- I have been going to Harriman Auto for about 4-5 years, never thrilled but no real issues to speak of, until the last 3 visits that is. I know your asking why did it take 3 visits, just naive I guess or really bad judgement. There is one good thing, at least you can benefit from the unbelievable experiences I have had. You might think I am just another customer complaining, but if you take the time to read many of the 1 star reviews below, you will certainly have to question going to this place. I wish I would have seen those reviews :( Harriman Auto has shown me their true colors--Greg. The fact that I have to take time to alert others of the horrible experience I have had should serve as a red flag for everyone. Do not bring your vehicle to this shady, non professional place. I am curious to know how many people have gone to pick up their car and can't leave because it will not start. I must be super lucky as that is what happened to me on my last service. One would think I was getting some serious repairs, nope, just getting an oil change/inspection/battery. I understand things happen, but I should have known from the prior two times I had brought my jeep in for service/inspection. The first inspection the engine light was on due to a gas cap code. After several days I was told everything was ready and the vehicle passed. Well soon after pulling out the light was back on. I didn't even second guess it, I chalked it up to being part of the incompetent service I just had. I also don't care because I have a whole year before I have to deal with that again. Ok, fast forward to the next year. Bring in the jeep again for an inspection with the engine light on due to gas code cap. Several days later I am told all set, I pull out and low and behold the light comes on. Can't make this stuff up. Ahh! but what happens next is the straw that breaks the camels back. Upon my last visit, just a week ago around 8/12/2016, I bring in my other car for routine stuff-- inspection/oil change and new battery. A day or two go by and I get the call that the vehicle is all set. I arrive make my payments as a good loyal customer does, I am excited to enjoy that new serviced car feeling :). Ahhh, but wait!!! the car will not start. Alrighty -- off to the luxurious waiting room with lots of reading materials. Quite awhile later I am told we can't figure it out and we will call you Monday. Monday call comes along with another $250.00 receipt. I am told this is the amount and it has already been discounted. I am not sure where the discount is as the receipt does not indicate any of this-- mmmm. Things get better, for them that is. Since I am no longer smiling and start to express my concerns with all of this over the phone, I am told I must authorize my cc payment with an email to them. Never had this before, but ok, I sent the email along with the fact that I was disputing all of this. My vehicle was now a prisoner until I paid the ransom. I get another call saying we can't process the cc, they are getting an error. I checked with the bank and they advise that the shop is entering a bad expiration date. The shop then tells me they will only accept cash, I am now a delinquent customer, I was a bit taken back-- I was now anticipating them to tell me to come into the back when picking up the car, that is where they could finish the job. I will leave you with this, there is a sign in the waiting area that says "we aim to please, if we please you tell your friends, if we don't tell us" -- wow that is pretty convenient. Ahh but I have had enough, so I am sharing this with all of my friends and not just them. I hope they are pleased with themselves.

I am not one to usually write a review but Harriman Auto has helped me out countless times. My family and I have taken multiple cars to Harriman Auto for all kinds of issues and regular maintenance. The atmosphere alone is very welcoming and refreshing. Its almost like I am with family. From the front desk to the mechanics you are welcomed with smiles and professionalism. The staff is very knowledgeable and explain things in an easy enough way that anyone can understand. The prices are competitive but not outrageous or unfair. I will be going to Harriman Auto for years to come.

I'm a former auto mechanic and i have a degree now in mechanical engineering, i've been going to this shop for over 18 years. when no other shop can fix the problem, these guys can... they have the best equipment available for doing tire balancing and alignment and offer a nationwide warranty on the work they do

They towed my car from one mile down the road after an accident. ONE MILE! I left it there three days while I arranged alternate transportation. $500 to get my car back. Said it was a discount and they could charge $900. That's bad businesss.

Greg and his staff are solid guys. My friends and I were headed upstate on a Friday for Labor Day weekend when our car overheated and was having major trouble. Luckily we were near Harrimans Auto. We arrived just after they closed. The owner, Greg, came out to take a look at the car. Things were worse than we expected and we still had another 2 hours til out destination. Talk about a stand up guy. Greg called his tow engineer Peter, and arranged to have us towed and driven to our destination. They went above and beyond and we are grateful! Thanks Greg & Co!

Did not pass my car for inspection when after all I was told I needed was an O2 sensor. They ripped off my inspection sticker and tried to stick me for 2 tires and an head light. Was never given my original DMV report that the car failed. Left me to drive around town w/ now inspection sticker. Lost me as a customer..... Will be sure to tell all about my experience.

Harriman Auto provided me with the very best experience when dealing with car trouble. My car broke down on 17, and within 20 minutes I had a tow truck. In addition, they were extremely accommodating as I was understandably in a terrible mood. My car was fixed in no time, and what impressed me most was both the efficiency and quickness of the work done on my car, and the price that it was done for. Cannot say enough great things about Harriman Auto, definitely bring your car here!

I had to get towed off the highway and didn't really have a choice as to my responder, so I feel very fortunate that these guys were the ones. My car needed a new alternator and instead of trying to get me to do the work (I know nothing of cars)they helped me make the right decision for my car and my investment and we came to the conclusion to get it to a junk yard. The quote they gave me for the repair was very fair, and although I had no work done the towing service and honesty was more than I could have asked for.

Avoid this mechanic at all costs! my wife brought her 2006 PT Cruiser in for an engine related July 2014. The check engine light was on and the code the computer was providing indicated a malfunction in the emissions system. The diagnosis was that the leakdown detection pump needed to be replaced, as well as the brackets that held it in place. We were also told that the car had a pending misfire code, to which the diagnosis was that the coil was going bad. We had them repair the pump and against our better judgement, the coil too. After about a week of waiting for parts, my wife picked the car back up, to the tune of roughly $900. Two days later we had the pleasure of having the gas cap light come on as well as the check engine light. This time the code indicated a small leak in the emissions system, most likely stemming from a bad gas cap. Several sources indicate that the leakdown detection pump is located near the fuel tank and that the tank needs to be dropped to access it. My wife purchased a new cap and the code did not clear. She then called Harriman Auto to find out why the code was appearing. They printed out a tech-net bulletin about the issue, cleared the code and didn't do too much else to help her. Luckily they never charged her, because they didn't do anything! The very next day the code came back AGAIN. When she called they told her to bring it back in and that they would look at it. After a few hours they call her and tell her that there is a small leak in the top of the gas tank. They tell her that the leak didn't result from the prior work and that they needed to drop the tank to repair said new leak. The presented her for another bill, this time for $90 for the second smoke-test. Harriman Auto - If you performed a smoke-test the first time and didn't discover the leak until the second time, why do I have to pay you twice? You initial diagnosis was flawed and when we called you out on it, you simply found a way to screw us further. I would rather bring my car to the Midas in Harriman... I only bought a car there once and the issue was resolved cheaply and efficiently. And that says a lot because they scratched my car up pretty badly!

My car blew a head gasket on the Thruway. Harriman Auto was there within minutes of getting the call. The towing fees were reasonable, and everyone was pleasant and helpful. They were thorough in their assessment of my car, completely up front about what was needed and what it would cost, and both friendly and professional. Their professional standards would not allow them to do the "quick fix" on my car, but they were clear about why and I am confident that they made the right decision. I strongly recommend them.

Didn't know this place from a hole in the wall a couple of weeks ago. And now this will be the only place I go for car repairs. Excellent work and honest. Could've easily hit me for a full brake job and they didn't. Kyle, the nice young man at the desk advised me I should just do the fronts for now and I should be fine. Car is running just fine. Golds gym is just around the corner so I can kill a couple of hours while I wait. Really like this place a lot.

Cant say enough about this place, my car was towed because of a breakdown. They brought me to their shop where they brought my car right in while i waited. After about 20 minutes they told me what was wrong, my timing belt had broke. (Kyle i think his name was) explained that on some cars the engine would need to be replaced but since i had a Camry mine did not. THey drove me home that day and finished with my car the next day at noon. Price was fair and i didnt have to reshcedule my clients at work. Great Place, Great People.

Friendly and honest. Organized and fast service, they even had an attention with my dog that was on my car. I was on the highway with an emergency and I had to find a mechanic near by and fast, I found them on my phone map for the first time, I try them and they were great! I wish this people the best on their business. Thanks, Guillermo Grasso
